Cleveland Browns (2009 Season)

I have heard people blush over Rich McKay. I think I would like Holmgren as GM, but not sure about GM AND HC (not sure that is being speculated, just saying).

I think McKay has an impressive resume and the experience to get the job done but that ship has passed. I hear Holmgren wants to coach again so I'm not completely sold on this idea either. I hope Lerner just takes his time and finally makes a good decision for a change, especially since it seems he is sold on riding this Mangenius debacle out for the rest of the year.

CPD interviewed several NFL execs and staffers in an article yesterday, and they all said that unless Mangini wins 3-4 more games, he's gone...and apparently they all predicted he would be gone.

I don't see this team winning 3/4 of a game, let alone 3-4 entire games.

Cleveland Browns coach Eric Mangini again waits to name starting QB - ESPN

:slappy:

Be ready for Quinn, though either way, I'm sure the Ravens are quaking in their boots. The more Mangini does, the more amazed I am he has a job.

actually, for all the mangini hate out there, this isn't a reason for it. mangini said after the chicago game that the team would do nothing but evaluations over the bye week then make whatever personnel moves were necessary when the players came back. the first practice is Wednesday. i fail to see the issue here.

An excerpt from Pro Football Weekly regarding the Browns situation and especially Mangini. I have to believe that any of the guys that have been mentioned as being brought in to be VP of Football Operations or whatever title that Mangini is history. There is even some talk in this article that Parcells is ready to leave Miami but I don't care who it is Holmgren, Wolf, or any of the other big-time executives they will not keep Mangini which is fine with me because he is just dragging the Browns deeper and deeper. I especially like the last paragraph:) in the quote below.
Will Mangini survive the Browns' bloodletting? The way we hear it, don't bet on it.

"Mangini is a dead man walking," one team insider told PFW. "It will never work for him. His ego is too big not to have power, but he does not know how to handle power. There's no way he can make it work. The owner has a lot of information on the problems."

Added an NFL scout with firsthand knowledge of the team's situation: "Everyone is in the dark. Everyone is scared for their jobs. No one wants to talk or is saying anything."
A common complaint we're hearing about Mangini is that he cannot handle more responsibility but continues to try to do everything himself because he does not trust anyone. As a result, he is outsmarting himself.

"His communication skills are awful," said one insider. "He is not a leader. And he is not a likeable guy. It's a very bad combination for a head coach or general manager."

It doesn't help that Mangini's game plans are considered too intellectually demanding and overly complex, thus creating a situation in which the players are tighter than drums and continually walking on eggshells and overthinking ? and consequently, underachieving.

"Eric is an ass," said one high-level NFL executive. "He is so different than (new Broncos head coach) Josh (McDaniels), knowing both of them. Eric is impressed with European general leadership books. It's great, but players are not a Roman army. No one is having any fun. Practice sucks. Part of the job of a coach is to keep players focused and motivated."

I don't know, I guess he dug his own hole with all his Charlie Weis school of schematic advantage to force opposing teams to prepare for our 2 headed QB hydra doucherocket stuff at the beginning of the season. People are going to be naturally skeptical now.

it was said after cleveland's last game that the staff was going to take the bye week to assess all positions and make necessary personnel moves and notify the players as such upon return to practice. that's exactly what is happening. he's not waiting until kickoff or anything of the sort.

mangini has given cleveland fans plenty of ammo, this just isn't it.

The fact that he has made any type of decision is enough for me. Mangina has done absolutely nothing right so far during his tenure as the Browns coach, so I'd expect the same result this time around.

Yeah, I heard him, and if Tony Dungy had said that, no one would bat an eyelash. But given his handling of the situation earlier in the year, it's not really all that surprising that people are reacting differently under the circumstances.
