Cleveland Browns (2008 Season)

I think now our focus in the draft should be an OLB. I'd like to see us focus on some good, promising young OLBs and try and snag them somehow in the draft.

Honestly, these are some really good moves. We just got one of the best NT in the league and a franchise type guy to play end. We should have a ton of talent and depth on the dline now. This should really shore up our run defense.

Assuming our young DBs progress, I'm going to be pretty optimistic about our defense next season.

I really like the moves so far... d-line is very important and was a huge reason our defense wasn't good last year. My gut feeling is that we sign a CB in Free agency and then get another in the 4th round. Hopefully Savage can use his famed scouting skills to find a gem on the second day.

And yes, I do believe that Cleveland takes home a 1st round draft pick this year. I just don't know how yet.

I can't see Cleveland having any players that are tradable enough to get us back into the first round except if Savage is still blowing smoke about the QBs. I think the only way we get back into the first round is if Savage trades his 2009 first round pick to some team who might be strapped by the cap.

I wonder why the trade between the Bengals and the Lions for Rogers fell through. While I love the play of MacDonald last year, I am concerned that the Browns need to look for a CB or at least someone who can play the nickel position. Maybe the Browns know that Baxter is going to be all right but I doubt that. Just don't know.

I would love for the Browns to get Haggans to play OLB plus it would put another hurt on the Steelers.

I just wonder how much money the Browns still have to spend after signing Williams and getting Rogers. I think that with total about $12 mil but it is probably more and they had around $34 mil after they left Orpheus go. Also with the re-signing of Anderson that will probably drop the available money for other free agents even further.

We still need to bring in a inside linebacker and I have heard no mention of that. We still need some help there so maybe Phil can bring in some more guys today and tomorrow and take care of those positions. I think once a guy leaves town without being signed the use of the do not come back so I guessed Stallworth and Laboy are history.

savage wants both qb's on the roster in '08. i doubt they both will be in '09. This is insurance to get a better look at quinn and transition him into his role.

after this year, DA is very very tradable cap wise.
cleveland has quite a few good starters at most positions, that are vets. if they amass some draft picks, they can begin to add depth to positions that have been so thin for years.
I totally agree with your statements but I don't know how we are going to amass draft picks when Phil is trading them for NFL players. Nearly a way that I can see him getting settled for 2009 is if he lets one of the QB's go after next season which you anticipate. Things are looking good.:)

These moves all say one thing to me: We want to win and we want to win now and in the future. I like it. No reason to roll the dice in the draft when you have the ability to bring in guys who will make the immediate impact. Although I want to see what Quinn can do, the DA deal won't hurt if he's more like the 2nd half of last year than the 1st. I'd also like to see them add some running back depth, but I couldn't be more pleased with yesterday's moves.

As disappointed as I am that Bodden is heading out of Cleveland, I am happy with the moves. Savage realizes there is no way we get anyone the quality of Williams or Rogers in the draft, especially with no first round pick. Plus, we do not have to pay guaranteed money to someone who has never taken a professional snap. Finally, with DA and BQ we have two good QBs with neither of them having a contract that prohibits the team trading or cutting one in the future.

Hell of a start to the 08 season!

After having read the last 8 pages or so in one sitting, I posit that absolutely no one here is actually good at predicting what is going to happen with the Browns. Links are good, and speculation is fun, just not very accurate (at all). Thanks for trying though fellers, and I look forward to scrolling through this thread more frequently in the future, I just had a computer situation arise that I couldn't help immediately. Therefore I have been getting leftovers, per se, for the last 3 weeks, and I finally got back on here to get updated.

You guys have no future in this business!

But I love what Savage is doing. I agree with Quinn, Williams, Rogers>1,2,3 round in 08 draft that was discussed...at least you know what you are going to get at camp this way... I am of the belief that right now in the NFL is the time and place to make a move, and the payoffs can reap huge benefits. We shall see.

And yes, I do believe that Cleveland takes home a 1st round draft pick this year. I just don't know how yet.

we could only hope to be so intelligent and modest as you:wink2:

Bodden started to slip a little bit last year. I think MacDonald will be able to take his place but we need to find a good nickel back to take MacDonald's spot. I have no confidence in Holly.

Good point about not having to pay guaranteed money to someone who was not a proven NFL player.

There is no way we go into next season with Macdonald and Wright as our starting DB's. Phil has another move up sleeve.
