by Dennis Manoloff Tuesday November 18, 2008, 4:45 PM
CHUCK CROW / THE PLAIN DEALERKicker Phil Dawson and holder Dave Zastudil watch as Dawson's 56-yard kick sails through the uprights to win Monday's game in Buffalo.
Plain Dealer reporter Dennis Manoloff watched the ESPN tape of the Browns' 29-27 victory over the Bills on Monday night in Orchard Park, N.Y. Here are some of his observations:
FIRST QUARTER
* At 14:50, Shaun Rogers, occupying three linemen, batted Trent Edwards' pass into the air. Kamerion Wimbley intercepted.
* On third-and-6 at 14:03, Brady Quinn threw too high intended for Kellen Winslow Jr. on left sideline.
* At 13:00, Wimbley barely missed a pass breakup; Edwards-to-Roscoe Parrish gained 21.
* At 11:42, Andra Davis made an athletic play to reach for a pick of Edwards, who threw behind James Hardy.
* At 11:39, offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski made a good call for Quinn to use bootleg action right, taking advantage of the over-pursuing Bills. The play gained 12.
* At 10:55, Quinn threw a safe pass to Charles Ali over the middle for 12 yards -- Quinn's first completion.
* At 9:38, Edwards elevated then dropped a pass thrown slightly behind him near the Buffalo 5. The ball slipped out of his hands as he was trying to move it from the left to the right.
* On the next play, defensive tackle Marcus Stroud hit Quinn during his release. The Bills blitzed. Center Hank Fraley, after blocking one man, tried to peel off for Stroud, to no avail.
* On third-and-2 at 5:05, Quinn was forced to throw the ball away against blitzing linebacker Kawika Mitchell. Jason Wright was late to get to Mitchell.
* At 5:00, Dave Zastudil pinned the Bills at the 1 with a 65-yard punt. Mike Adams downed it.
* On third-and-1 at 3:24, Brandon McDonald appeared to bait Edwards into trying to connect with Robert Royal. Edwards was late delivering again and McDonald intercepted.
