Cleveland Browns cornerback Brandon McDonald has big day

Monday, November 26, 2007 Mary Kay Cabot
Plain Dealer Reporter
A funny thing happened to Browns rookie cornerback Brandon McDonald during his first significant NFL action: He made Texans two-time Pro Bowl receiver Andre Johnson look more like the rookie and made himself look more like the two-time Pro Bowler.
Pressed into service because fellow rookie cornerback Eric Wright was out with a sprained knee, McDonald was amazing both on defense and special teams, arguably the MVP of both units en route to the Browns' 27-17 victory.
"It really boosts my confidence just knowing I can play on this level and be effective in this league, especially against a great receiver like Andre Johnson," said McDonald, the Browns' fifth-round pick out of Memphis.

Perfect Winslow doesn't pass on a catch

Monday, November 26, 2007 Joe Maxse

Plain Dealer Reporter
Left or right, high or low. Throw the football where you like, Kellen Winslow will catch it.
That's the game of pitch-and-catch quarterback Derek Anderson and the tight end played on Sunday during the Browns' 27-17 win against the Houston Texans. Ten times Anderson went to Winslow and each toss resulted in a reception for a total of 107 yards and one touchdown.
"That's what you get paid to do when passes come your way," said Winslow, wearing an especially nasty welt on the bridge of his nose. "We actually left a lot of plays on the field. I could have blocked more. We have a bunch of perfectionists on our team."

BROWNS INSIDER
Cleveland Browns quarterback Derek Anderson winning games, receivers' confidence

Monday, November 26, 2007 Mary Kay Cabot
Plain Dealer Reporter
Quarterback Derek Anderson keeps pushing the Browns toward the playoffs. With the 27-17 victory Sunday over the Texans, Anderson improved to 7-3 on the season and went over .500 for his career at 7-6.
"He's a money player, that's what I call him," said receiver Braylon Edwards. "He made some tremendous throws, especially to Kellen [Winslow]. He calls them seeds and threw a couple of seeds to Kellen. He threaded it through some coverage and the ball was just right there. Kellen just had to stick his hands out."
Anderson fired some laser shots into double and triple coverage, including touchdown passes to Edwards and Winslow for 19 and 7 yards, respectively.

Passing gives Cleveland Browns' Jamal Lewis the freedom to run, Bill Livingston says

Monday, November 26, 2007 Bill Livingston
Plain Dealer Columnist
Jamal Lewis would take his stance in Baltimore and look across the line to the "box," the area behind the line that was 3 to 5 yards deep. The defense would crowd in, like Black Friday shoppers waiting for the department store doors to open.
There were never any bargains for a running back playing behind such quarterbacks as Trent Dilfer, Kyle Boller and Steve McNair (in his over-the-hill phase). If a defense stopped the run, it stopped the Ravens.
Opponents can't do that to him with the Browns. Lewis knows the offense works in an untraditional manner here, with the pass setting up the run.

SCRIBBLES IN MY NOTEBOOK
Cleveland Browns' defense now complementing rest of the team, writes Terry Pluto

Monday, November 26, 2007 Terry Pluto

Plain Dealer Columnist
This was more than a 27-17 victory over Houston for the Browns - it was their best game of the season. It's how a playoff team per forms at home. It's not just all of fense, as it has been for much of this season. The defense was excellent, keeping control of the game against a Houston offense that privately had the Browns very, very worried. That was especially true with starters Ethan Kelley and Eric Wright out, and linebackers Antwan Peek and D'Qwell Jackson not close to 100 percent. Coach Romeo Crennel said, "We had a pretty good defensive performance until we gave up that last touchdown [in the fourth quarter]."

Getting My Hopes up

The Browns should win 4 out of their last 5 games (Cardinals, Jets, Bills, Bengals, 49ers) if not all five but every season I think something magical is going to happen and it doesn't. If they win 4 out of their last 5, I believe they are in the playoffs and probably will face the Steelers but I better not get my hopes up.

Too late for me. Hopes already up.
Now lets go beat Arizona!

IF the Browns make it to the Playoffs; then I doubt they will play the Steelers since neither team will have the best record.

They probably will in the Wild Card round as long as they stay in front of the Chargers. I believe that the 2 remaining division champs get home field for the first playoff game. Patriots and Indy get a bye.

3 of 5 should get them in at this point. Denver, Tennessee
Houston and Buffalo are the threat to take their spot and it isnt likely any of these teams get to 10 wins.

Tennessee is 6-5 and has SD, KC, Hou, NYJ, Indy (3-2 likely)
Denver is 5-6 and has SD, Oak, KC, Hou, Min (the lone threat for 10 wins in my opinion which could put SD and Denver tied)
Buffalo is 5-6 and has Was, Mia, Cle, NYG, Phi (2-3)
Houston is 5-6 and Has Tennessee, Indy, Denver, TB, Jax (2-3)

The most important game on the schedule left for Cleveland is Buffalo.

Pitt looks to have 10-11 wins
SD should have 9-11

There is a good chance Cleveland plays either Denver or SD on the first week of the playoffs.

It might be but it also could be the Jets because one of the tiebreakers down the road is common opponents but I don't know how Buffalo has fared against New York this year. Actually, the game that scares me the most it is the Bungles.

Also if we are the last team into the playoffs, we would play the #3 seed which would be the Squealers.

I will have to look at Tennessee, along with the other pretenders, to see how many of their games are Away/home

And here I was trying to keep my hopes down a little.

Cleveland Browns | Lewis still creating a buzz

Lewis still creating a buzz

Steve King, Staff Writer
11.26.2007

About 20 hours after his last carry, thoughts of Jamal Lewis were still running through the heads of the Cleveland media members who cover the Browns.
Head coach Romeo Crennel was asked a number of questions in his Monday press conference about Lewis and the crunching Browns running game following the 27-17 triumph over the Houston Texans the previous day at Cleveland Browns Stadium.
