Plain Dealer PhotoBrowns quarterback Derek Anderson has a lot in common with his opponent this week, Houston's Matt Schaub.

http://www.cleveland.com/forums/browns
Browns quarterback Derek Anderson was asked this week what he and Texans quarterback Matt Schaub have in common.
"We're both big and good-looking," he joked.
Actually, the two quarterbacks, who will meet Sunday at Cleveland Browns Stadium, have a lot more in common. For starters:

They're both up in the stratosphere, with Anderson at 6-6 and Schaub at 6-5.

Dawson welcomes wins after dark years

Sunday, November 25, 2007 3:29 AM
By James Walker

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

BEREA, Ohio -- Kicker Phil Dawson was shocked by what he saw in the Cleveland Browns' locker room after a win last Sunday over the Baltimore Ravens.

Dawson was delayed by on-field interviews after he made a field goal that bounced off an upright and the support bar to tie the score, and then made another field goal in overtime to win the game.
When Dawson finally entered the locker room, every player, coach and staff member was waiting for him.
Their hero had arrived.

Browns, Texans actually playing game that matters
Sunday, November 25, 2007
By Steve Doerschuk
REPOSITORY SPORTS WRITER

CLEVELAND This time, the Expansion Bowl has a BCS flavor. Cleveland vs. Houston matches two climbers enjoying their best seasons of an era.

Previously, Cleveland-Houston had a Tidy Bowl ring.

Twice in the last three years, it was a comic-relief season finale.

The Browns won at Houston on Jan. 2, 2005, breaking a nine-game losing streak under interim coach Terry Robiskie. Houston won last New Year?s Eve, when the Browns had hoped to drag the Texans with them into the dark void at 5-11.

Sitting and watching
UPDATE: 11:51 PM, Saturday, November 24, 2007

Here are 10 reasons why Browns rookie quarterback Brady Quinn hasn?t played so far:

Game 1. The Browns needed to see what Derek Anderson could do after he relieved Charlie Frye in the second quarter, trailing 17-0.

Game 2. Anderson was smoking in a shootout win against Carson Palmer.

Game 3. Anderson was off, but the game was close and it was hard to bench a guy who had just won a 51-45 game.

Crennel no longer on firing line
UPDATE: 9:05 PM, Friday, November 23, 2007
By Steve Doerschuk
REPOSITORY SPORTS WRITER

BEREA Phil Savage keeps calling Romeo Crennel the ?right man for the right time.?

Few heads were nodding in the affirmative when the Browns? general manager was saying that about the head coach in August.

Now? If Crennel?s future was put to a fan vote, there?s little doubt he would win re-election to at least a one-year term beyond 2007.

Crennel: We need Anderson to get better
UPDATE: 11:51 PM, Saturday, November 24, 2007
BY Steve Doerschuk
REPOSITORY SPORTS WR

CLEVELAND The Texans think they have their horse.

You know that from these phrases that came from Coach Gary Kubiak?s lips as he prepared to throw Matt Schaub at the Browns: ?Here for the long haul ... a winner ... great for our organization ... a leader ... loves to play ... a gym rat.?

The Browns don?t know what to think about Derek Anderson. They picked Brady Quinn, not Anderson, to be their Matt Schaub.

BROWNS REPORT
Sunday, November 25, 2007
STEVE DOERSCHUK

Bring on the cold

Big back that he is, Jamal Lewis likes the prospect of slamming out the yards on windy, wintery Sundays.

?This is where I make my hay, really,? said Lewis, coming off his second-best game as a Brown.

?As a big power back, in the winter time, that?s when it?s time to pound the football,? Lewis said.

Look for Lewis to get the ball 15 to 25 times against a Houston defense whose secondary can be torched if the front seven is softened by the run.

Browns, fans should look clearly at QB's prospects

Posted by Bill Livingston November 25, 2007 08:45AM

Now that Derek Anderson has been Clevelandized as the new pacemaker for the new Kardiac Kids, it might be impossible to look clearly at him and his prospects. But the Browns, if not their fans, should try.
He has a cannon for an arm, but all that seemed to mean last year was that he could make mistakes at double-time.

Linebacker Kamerion Wimbley knocks Texans quarterback Matt Schaub to the ground after forcing an incomplete pass.

CLEVELAND -- Amid playoff talk and media fanfare, the Cleveland Browns stayed focused on the Houston Texans.
The Browns put together one of their most complete games of the season yesterday in a 27-17 victory that improved their record to 7-4. They also received help from Cincinnati, which beat Tennessee (6-5) to give the Browns a one-game lead for the second spot in the wild-card standings. Jacksonville, at 8-3, is the leader among wild-card hopefuls.
But the Browns still are not talking about the postseason. Last week, several veterans imposed a gag order.
"We're 7-4. We're not the (New England) Patriots," tight end Kellen Winslow Jr. said. "We're not undefeated, we don't have any Super Bowl rings and we were 4-12 last year. We could very easily be a 4-6 team, but a couple things bounced our way."

Browns notebook: Lewis likes being focal point of offense

Browns running back Jamal Lewis makes his way past Texans defenders on his way to a 134-yard rushing game.

CLEVELAND -- Jamal Lewis was ecstatic when he showed up to practice last week and was told he would be a major part of yesterday's game plan.
The Cleveland Browns' power running back thinks he is at his best in cold-weather games -- temperature at kickoff was 41 degrees -- and he showed why in a 27-17 victory.
The Browns grabbed an early advantage and turned to Lewis to protect the lead in the second half, when he rushed for 91 yards and a touchdown. He finished with 134 yards on 29 carries.

Bob Hunter commentary: If defense keeps improving, it might be time to take Browns' postseason chances seriously

CLEVELAND -- The Cleveland Browns were 6-4 before yesterday's 27-17 win over Houston, but the more significant number was 32. That was their NFL ranking in both total defense and average points allowed.
Enjoy the ride, dream the dream, believe the fairy tale, but the Browns could no more hide that flaw than a boxer can hide a glass chin. Good teams, like good boxers, will eventually find and take advantage of the weakness.
Thirty-two. The Big Stinkeroo. Worst in the NFL. Sieve City.

Browns put 'complete' beat-down on Texans

Posted by Tony Grossi November 26, 2007 07:20AM

Categories: Browns

Wearing vintage uniforms of the late 1950s, the Browns played a brand of football Sunday reminiscent of bygone playoff seasons.
They were physical on defense and offense. They popped balls loose with big hits. They owned the second half by pummeling the ball on the ground.
They didn't need divine goalpost intervention or long kick returns to turn back an inferior foe.
They simply took care of business on their home field.
The Browns' 27-17 win over the dazed Houston Texans established more evidence that this team may be playoff-worthy, after all.
