Browns claim Leonard, release Player
JEFF SCHUDEL, Morning Journal Writer
10/09/2007

BEREA -- In an attempt to beef up their aging and feeble defensive line, the Browns yesterday were awarded 330-pound rookie nose tackle Louis Leonard on waivers from the St. Louis Rams.

Punter Scott Player was released to clear a roster spot for Leonard, who broke into the NFL as an undrafted rookie with the Chargers a week after the 2007 draft. He was assigned to the Chargers practice squad on Sept. 2, the day NFL rosters were trimmed to 53, and claimed by the Rams Sept. 12.

He was inactive in Games 2, 3 and 4 and waived on Saturday, one day before the Rams lost to the Arizona Cardinals.

Irritated over what he thought was a cheap shot in the closing seconds of Sunday's 34-17 loss, Steinbach called Patriots linebacker Mike Vrabel "classless" on Monday.
Steinbach felt Vrabel purposely dived at the knees of rookie tackle Joe Thomas' legs with 11 seconds remaining on a play that was stopped when Browns quarterback Derek Anderson spiked the ball.

Fuck Mike Vrabel and the entire Patriots organization. Anyone that has watched that team over the last few years knows that "cheap" shots are not isolated instances. Shit, Rodney Harrison has been a cheapshot artist for years. Now he's a cheating cheapshot artist that's embraced by the bonehead hypocrite fans in Beantown.

Lewis awaits MRI tests

Browns RB suffered apparent foot sprain in Pats loss

BEREA, Ohio (AP) -- The Cleveland Browns were awaiting MRI results on running back Jamal Lewis' sprained right foot, an injury that knocked him out after one play in Sunday's loss to the New England Patriots.
Browns coach Romeo Crennel said Monday that X-rays on Lewis' foot were negative.
Lewis broke off an 11-yard run on his only carry in the Browns' 34-17 loss before leaving the game. He didn't feel the injury was serious and after having his foot re-taped looked like he was ready to return.
"He wanted to come back in and they tested him on the sidelines and jogged him up and down but the medical people didn't feel like it was enough so they held him out," Crennel said.

Pass rush more of a passive rush for Browns
JEFF SCHUDEL, Morning Journal Writer
10/10/2007

BEREA -- Gillette Stadium was packed with 68,756 fans on Sunday, and every time he threw a pass against the Browns, Patriots quarterback Tom Brady had the free time to pose and wave to each one of them like a movie star walking down the red carpet at the Academy Awards.

The Browns pass rush this season is even more anemic than it was in 2005 and 2006 -- the first two years they were in the 3-4 defense, which theoretically is strong against the run, sometimes at the sacrifice of not getting as many sacks as a 4-3 defense would produce.

BROWNS INSIDER

Foot injury has Lewis in boot, out of practice

Running back Jamal Lewis sat out Wednesday's practice with a strained right foot and his status for the Dolphins game is uncertain.
Lewis, who was injured on the Browns' first play from scrimmage against the Patriots, is wearing a walking boot and stayed inside during practice. He wasn't available to reporters during the open locker room period.
"He's doing everything he can so he can go," said coach Romeo Crennel. "We'll take it day to day. We'll know more later in the week whether he can play or not."

Cleveland Browns' Brady Quinn will see Sunday the team he thought would draft him

Thursday, October 11, 2007Tony Grossi
Plain Dealer Reporter
The Miami Dolphins come to Cleveland on Sunday with an 0-5 record and Cleo Lemon replacing injured Trent Green at quarterback.
It might have been the day Brady Quinn made his NFL debut - had Miami drafted him.
Instead, Quinn will watch from the Browns' bench for the sixth consecutive game. The Browns are 2-2 with Derek An- derson as the starting quar terback and 2-3 overall.

BROWNS REPORT
Thursday, October 11, 2007
STEVE DOERSCHUK

Edwards vs. Brown

The Browns are favored to improve to 3-3, but they remain one of those teams that emboldens the Dolphins to think they can finally win a game.

?We?re no 5-0 team,? wideout Braylon Edwards said. ?Who are we to say that we really don?t have to focus on this team??

The Dolphins could have picked Edwards in 2005. Instead, they chose running back Ronnie Brown at No. 2 overall. The Browns grabbed Edwards at No. 3.

Both players are off to the bests starts of their pro careers.

Brown ranks fifth in the league with 425 rushing yards, including a strong 5.1 per-carry average. Edwards ranks fourth with 485 receiving yards, trailing only Randy Moss (551), Chad Johnson (495) and Antonio Gates (485).

Dolphins' Porter set to renew feud with Winslow
UPDATE: 7:59 PM, Wednesday, October 10, 2007

DAVIE, Fla. (AP) ? Joey Porter has two victories, a fine and plenty of headlines to show for his feud with Kellen Winslow, which resumes this week.

?It has kind of been one-sided,? Porter said Wednesday. ?I?ve never lost to him. It?s like me picking on my little brother.?

While playing for Pittsburgh, Porter drew a $10,000 fine from the NFL when he made a derogatory slur questioning the Cleveland tight end?s sexual orientation following a game last season.

Porter, a linebacker, is now with the Miami Dolphins, who play Sunday at Cleveland.

Winslow twice faced Porter?s Steelers, and the Browns lost both games. Porter anticipates that this week?s showdown between the two players won?t amount to much.

Dolphins' pass sent Quinn to Cleveland
JEFF SCHUDEL, Morning Journal Writer
10/11/2007

BEREA -- Had the 2007 draft gone differently, the Browns might be facing Brady Quinn Sunday instead of preparing him to eventually take over for Derek Anderson.

The quarterback-starved Miami Dolphins, selecting ninth in the first round, passed over Quinn to draft Ohio State wide receiver Ted Ginn Jr. The decision by Dolphins general manager Randy Mueller and head coach Cam Cameron opened the door for the Browns to eventually select Quinn with the 22nd pick in the first round after making a trade with the Cowboys to acquire the pick.

Lewis will be a game-time decision
JEFF SCHUDEL, Morning Journal Writer
10/11/2007

BEREA -- Jamal Lewis did not practice yesterday because his right foot is in a walking boot. The running back's status for the game against the Dolphins Sunday might not be determined until game time.

''Jamal has a foot strain and he is working to get back,'' coach Romeo Crennel said. ''We've had him in a boot and if he can play, he's going to play. We'll take it day to day to see how it does. Probably later in the week we'll know more about what that prognosis is.''

Winslow won't take the bait

Dolphins' Porter makes comments to spark reaction, but Winslow doesn't bite.

By Sean McClelland

BEREA ? Joey Porter's comments had been fed to him in advance, so Cleveland Browns tight end Kellen Winslow knew exactly why a crowd of reporters had staked out his locker Thursday morning.
The challenge was to say something clever without escalating the feud, so Winslow came up with this:

Winless, Porter talks good game Now with Dolphins, ex-Steelers linebacker tries to bait Winslow
By Marla Ridenour Beacon Journal sportswriter
Published on Friday, Oct 12, 2007
BEREA: Loudmouthed linebacker Joey Porter is no longer the straw that stirs the Pittsburgh Steelers' drink. But he's still trying to stir up Kellen Winslow.
Porter, who is in his first season with the Miami Dolphins after eight with the Steelers, tried to reignite a war of words with Winslow, the Browns' fourth-year tight end.
