Cleveland Browns (2007 & prior)

How about that Braylon Edwards character? :)

As a Browns fan, it is nice to see him do well.

It took a few years to get that scUM crap out of his system, to get some honest to goodness true 'character' in him since he came to the Browns sorely lacking any.

But I think the tell tale sign that he may have turned the corner was the home win over Baltimore Ratbirds when he was into doing the "O-H-I-O" while "Hang On Sloopy" played at the stadium. (BTW, if anyone ever goes to a Browns game, the "O-H-I-O" during the song is extremely loud. Not quite as loud as the 'Shoe, but pretty close considering 25K less than the 'Shoe).:wink2:

Tom Archdeacon: Edwards important for city

By Tom Archdeacon
Staff Writer

Monday, October 15, 2007
CLEVELAND ? Call it what you want.
Some of that "My Name Is Earl" karma. Or, just a case of a guy having a good upbringing and good hands.

Maybe it simply proves that old bromide ? the more you give, the more you receive.
Whatever it is for Braylon Edwards, his fellow Browns' receiver, Joe Jurevicius, summed it up perfectly Sunday after Cleveland's 41-31 victory over the Miami Dolphins: "I said it earlier, 'I think he's going to have a breakout season,' and today he showed it again."

Harrison provides spark off bench

By Sean McClelland
Staff Writer

Monday, October 15, 2007
CLEVELAND ? Jerome Harrison had been waiting for a chance. When it came Sunday, he took advantage.
On the active roster only because feature back Jamal Lewis was sidelined with a strained foot, Harrison lent exactly the spark the Browns needed in their 41-31 victory over the Miami Dolphins.

BROWNS SCORE .500
Edwards ties team record with three TD catches during victory

By Marla Ridenour Beacon Journal sportswriter
Published on Monday, Oct 15, 2007

CLEVELAND: Who knew the Browns could be an offensive juggernaut?
Some in the locker room are having a hard time comprehending it. ''Isn't that amazing? It's fantastic,'' Browns running back Jason Wright said.
''It's been a while and I love it,'' Browns cornerback Leigh Bodden said.
The defense continues to be a work in progress, but the offensive explosion that began four weeks ago against the Cincinnati Bengals continued Sunday against the Miami Dolphins.

A breakout performance for Edwards Browns wide receiver has five receptions for 67 yards, three TDs
By George M. Thomas Beacon Journal sportswriter
Published on Monday, Oct 15, 2007
CLEVELAND: Take note, Browns fans. Sunday might be the day that wide receiver Braylon Edwards arrived in the NFL as a complete player.
It all doesn't show up in the stats, but Edwards delivered a well-rounded performance in the Browns' 41-31 victory over the Miami Dolphins at Cleveland Browns Stadium.
Edwards caught five balls for 67 yards, but the big difference comes in the three touchdowns that he scored to tie a team record that 10 others also hold.

Cleveland Browns explosive in 41-31 win over Miami Dolphins

Offense flexes muscles in win before off week
Monday, October 15, 2007Tony Grossi
Plain Dealer Reporter
The Browns didn't sputter into their bye week, as in recent years, with an offense needing a tuneup and new tires. They accelerated to it.
They played pedal-to-the-metal offense in a 41-31 victory over the winless Miami Dolphins to reach their off week with a 3-3 record. Not bad after that 34-7 loss to Pittsburgh in the opener.
They are 3-2 since Derek Anderson took over as starting quarterback. His flawless, three-touchdown, no-interception day no doubt will keep Brady Quinn in moth balls indefinitely.

A quiet poise steps in where swagger ruled

Monday, October 15, 2007Bill Livingston
Plain Dealer Columnist
Kellen Winslow stripped off his gloves and thrust them into the crowd. Other players flipped wrist bands to fans at Cleveland Browns Stadium as they entered the tunnel to the Browns' locker room.
After a time, coach Romeo Crennel walked through, looking satisfied by a 41-31 victory over a Miami team the Browns were supposed to beat.
The joy had a boundary no bigger than the tunnel. The souvenirs were keepsakes for the fans, not lasting memories for a growing team. In some ways, the biggest deal was that it was not that big a deal.

Anderson does it like a pro

Monday, October 15, 2007 Tim Rogers

Plain Dealer Reporter
A short time after the Browns routed Miami, 41-31, on Sunday, coach Romeo Crennel made light of the fact that he is seldom asked about Brady Quinn's status anymore.
"Just now," Crennel responded when asked to recall the last time someone inquired about Quinn.
Derek Anderson is doing his best to keep Quinn as the star quarterback-in-waiting.

Cleveland Browns tight end Kellen Winslow wins showdown with Dolphins' Joey Porter

Monday, October 15, 2007Mary Kay Cabot
Plain Dealer Reporter
Tight end Kellen Winslow won his battle against Dolphins linebacker Joey Porter, who said during the week that he'd win it hands-down.
Winslow caught five passes for 90 yards, including two on which he directly beat Porter, a 15-yarder and a 33-yarder over the middle to the 3 that led to a Phil Dawson field goal.
But just like during the week, Winslow refused to get caught up in a war of words with his old Pittsburgh foe.

Edwards' play rising among ranks of elite receivers

Monday, October 15, 2007Mary Kay Cabot
Plain Dealer Reporter
In the past, Browns receiver Braylon Edwards dressed the part and talked the part, but didn't always play the part.
Now, he's got the game to go along with his snappy designer suits and eloquent postgame news conferences. He's also got the game worthy of a former No. 3 overall pick.
He only caught five passes Sunday against a Dolphins team that passed him up for Ronnie Brown in the 2005 draft, but three went for touchdowns to tie a franchise record.

Browns light it up as Edwards snags 3 TDs in victory

By DONALD EMMONS
BLADE SPORTS WRITER

CLEVELAND - The official scorekeeper for the Cleveland and Miami contest kept busy yesterday at Cleveland Browns Stadium. The two teams delivered plenty of offense in a game the Browns were without their starting running back, and the winless Dolphins played minus their starting quarterback. Cleveland quarterback Derek Anderson connected with Braylon Edwards for three touchdown passes and ran for another to lead the Browns to a 41-31 victory over the Dolphins before a home crowd of 73,198. The afternoon may have served as the unofficial coming out party for Edwards as a rising star. He scored on touchdown catches of 24, 5, and 16 yards to equal a franchise record shared by nine others for touchdown receptions in a game.

Wright makes his wrong a right
Jeff Schudel, Morning Journal Writer
10/15/2007

CLEVELAND -- One week earlier Jason Wright got to the New England 1 on the Browns first possession and did not push the ball across the goal line. For seven days he had to live with that.

When he got the opportunity to score yesterday against the Dolphins he was determined not to fail again.
