A rolling Moss gathers some respect
The last two times the Browns played against receiver Randy Moss, he didn't destroy them. They held him to two catches for 33 yards.

Browns must beware: Moss is aloof no more
Friday, October 5, 2007
By Steve Doerschuk
repository sports writer

BEREA Brooding, self-absorbed, poisonous, lazy, selfish, incomparable, unstoppable.

All of those adjectives have followed Randy Moss through a unique football life.

The Browns must deal with what looks like the best of the 30-year-old wide receiver Sunday.

Cribbs, Pees have history
Friday, October 5, 2007
By Steve Doerschuk

BEREA Sunday's trip to New England will be a peculiar bolt out of the past for Joshua Cribbs, the Browns' electrifying receiver-return man.

Patriots Defensive Coordinator Dean Pees was Cribbs' head coach at Kent State.

New England's offensive coordinator is Josh McDaniels, whose family history changed after Pees recruited Cribbs as a young quarterback.

Ben McDaniels, Josh's kid brother, helped McKinley to two state high school championships and was on the verge of becoming Kent State's starting quarterback in 2001.

Tucker on course to reclaim Browns' spot
UPDATE: 5:08 AM, Friday, October 5, 2007
BY Steve Doerschuk
REPOSITORY SPORTS WRITER

BEREA Ryan Tucker hit the ground running, but it appears he?ll spend Sunday sitting.

Indications are the veteran Browns lineman will regain a roster spot in the wake of a four-game, steroid-related suspension.

However, a Browns offensive line that hasn?t been allowing sacks figures to send out the same starters as in the first four games Sunday at New England.

Crennel seems enthused about Tucker?s level of execution and conditioning, which bodes well for line depth. There had been doubts because Tucker was banned from the team complex for a month.

?He moves pretty well,?? Crennel said today. ?It was encouraging to see where he was.??

McDaniels has Pats' offense rolling
Thursday, October 4, 2007
By Steve Doerschuk
REPOSITORY SPORTS WRITER

Even now that he's a grizzled, seventh-year Patriot, how do you begin a discussion of Offensive Coordinator Josh McDaniels without noting how baby-faced young he is?

Birthday: April 22, 1976.

His youth comes into focus in noting Patriot quarterback Tom Brady's date of arrival: Aug. 3, 1977.

Look at it this way: McDaniels was a senior quarterback at McKinley High School in 1994, the same season Brady was a senior QB at Junipero Serra in California.

The McDaniels discussion gets deeper each year.

Crennel, Belichick not shy about teams
Thursday, October 4, 2007
BY STEVE DOERSCHUK

BEREA It remains to be seen whether Romeo Crennel will have a blast when his team bellies up against the Patriots on Sunday.

It's clear Crennel is having a little fun in advance of his first game against Bill Belichick since becoming head coach of the Browns. Crennel was Belichick's defensive coordinator on Super Bowl winners in the 2001, 2003 and 2004 seasons.

"Bill doesn't play, and I don't play," Cleveland's coach said in downplaying Crennel vs. Belichick. If they did?

"If it was a physical matchup, I'd probably win," Crennel said. "If it was a race, he might win."

Bodden is 'up for the challenge' of Moss
JEFF SCHUDEL, Morning Journal Writer
10/05/2007

BEREA -- No cornerback Randy Moss has faced so far this season has been able to stop him. Then again, he has not faced Leigh Bodden yet.

The Browns' right cornerback is eager for his duel with Moss Sunday when he and his teammates take on the Patriots in Gillette Stadium. The Patriots are 4-0. Moss, with seven touchdown catches and four 100-yard games, is a major reason New England is one of four undefeated teams in the NFL

Leigh Bodden, being jumped on by Braylon Edwards, will be assigned to cover New England's Randy Moss this weekend.

BEREA, Ohio -- Four years ago, cornerback Leigh Bodden was an undrafted free agent and a long shot to make the team. This season, the Cleveland Browns are making Bodden responsible for guarding the NFL's best receivers.

Can David (Browns) slay Goliath (Patriots)?
Sunday, October 7, 2007
By Steve Doerschuk
REPOSITORY SPORTS WRITER

FOXBORO, Mass. His time in New England is why Romeo Crennel got the Cleveland job.

What happens here today sets the stage for how long he'll keep it.

"Obviously, with coach having been there," Browns quarterback Derek Anderson said, "it's a little more motivation."

Crennel gives his trademark shrug. Even Bill Belichick is under pressure, he says.

The 4-0 Patriots have pounded the Jets, Chargers, Bills and Bengals by a tidy 138-48 sum.

If gorilla-sized underdog Cleveland not only beats the 16-point spread but loses close, Crennel gets style points.

Romeo Crennel

BEREA, Ohio -- Romeo Crennel coached for four teams during his 27 years in the NFL. But no stint was more successful than his four-year run as defensive coordinator of the New England Patriots.

For the first time since becoming coach of the Cleveland Browns, Crennel returns to the place where he won three Super Bowl rings when Cleveland plays the undefeated Patriots today in Gillette Stadium.

BROWNS
Cleveland Browns' Willie McGinest to face former team, New England Patriots

Saturday, October 06, 2007 Mary Kay Cabot
Plain Dealer Reporter
Browns linebacker Willie McGinest's teammates hope they can do for him this week what they did for running back Jamal Lewis last week: help him beat the team that cut him.
And not just any old team -- the team that he helped win three Super Bowls during his 12 seasons in New England.
"We really want to go up there and get this thing for Willie," said linebacker Antwan Peek. "I can only imagine how he must feel about this game. I know he wants it bad and everyone wants it bad for him, so as a team we're going to go out there and put forth the effort to get it done."

BROWNS INSIDER
Cleveland Browns Chudzinski ready for chess match with New England Patriots

Offense looking for a little magic
Saturday, October 06, 2007 Mary Kay Cabot
Plain Dealer Reporter
Browns first-time offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski is gearing up for his matchup against defensive guru Bill Belichick and the Patriots' top-ranked defense.
"I don't know if I can match wits with him, but the bottom line is what I tell our players - it's not always the X's and O's," Chudzinski said. "I show them the game plan and I say, 'The magic is not on this paper.' The magic is in what they do with it on the field."
Despite Belichick's five Super Bowl rings - including three as Patriots head coach - Chudzinski isn't intimidated. Perhaps it helps that he's coming off a 27-13 victory over the Baltimore Ravens and their vaunted defense.

Browns show progress, still lose
Monday, October 8, 2007
By Steve Doerschuk
Repository sports writer

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. Team Belichick is Secretariat.

The Browns, at least, played like pesky flies Sunday, making the Super Bowl triple-crowner swish its tail before losing a bookie barnburner.

The Patriots were favored by 16 1/2. They covered, winning 34-17 only when Cleveland quarterback Derek Anderson missed three final end zone shots from the 10.

Have the Browns progressed from gnat to horsefly?
