Cleveland Browns (2007 & prior)

Actually I think they'd pick up a Running Back in the 1st round and a QB later on down the road.

A franchise QB is wasted if his line sucks, he has no running game and his defense is on the field 40 minutes a game......

My logic is just fine thank you very much.

the OL yesterday wasn't that bad considering aside from his missed blitz call, each one of frye's sacks he held the ball for 4 seconds or more.pittsburgh had 8 in the box all day daring cleveland to throw over the top of the cover 2. anderson had marginal success doing such. the defense is on the field 40 minutes a game because of 5 turnovers and qb's that suck.your logic is still faulty.

I'm as big of a Quinn hater as there is, but he can't be any worse than Dumb and Dumber. Cut Frye, resign Dorsey, and start Quinn. If you put a Brady or Manning in the game for the Browns yesterday it would have been a totally different game. I doubt Quinn will be close to either of them, but it's time to see what he can do. If he can try to take what the D gives him, hit open receivers, and not make stupid mistakes it will be a step in the right direction.

agreed. Kosar just said "If Jesus was our quarterback, we'd still be 0-1" :slappy:

nonsense. charlie frye has had going on 2 seasons to show some signs of progress as an NFL qb. he has not. in his 1.5 quarters of play, he made every mistake he possibly could, from not properly recognizing blitz packages, to holding the ball too long, to the int. frye played as poor as he possibly could, to the point that captain status quo crennel had to yank him. quit your excuse mongering.

I assure you that it is not excuse mongering. Frye was horrible yesterday. But he was done (in the crowd's eyes) before he even stepped on the field. He threw one incomplete pass and got sacked the first series. And after that first series, he was greeted to a chorus of boos and "Brady" chants as he walked off the field. That's ridiculous. You can call it an excuse all you want, but booing your own players after one series is absurd and counterproductive.

This is the same demanding fanbase that cheered when Tim Couch got injured. Can't wait til they boo Brady too.

Who would want to be a quarterback for this team (EDIT: Who would want to be a quarterback for these so-called "fans"?)

cleveland fans gave frye the benefit of the doubt for nigh on 2 seasons. cleveland went out and vastly improved the OL, and got a capable rb, and frye brought them all down to his level of suck. if he isn't mentally strong enough to handle the boos after his performance yesterday, then he's not cut out to be an nfl player period.

I don't get the whining about trading away the pick to Dallas. They would've just blown it, along with the rest of their picks in the next couple of drafts picking the sorry players they'd use to surround an eventual QB pick like Jimmy Clausen.

I'll remain hesitant to declare the Browns giving up draft picks to be "a waste" until they prove that they can do something more productive with any given pick than the result they'd get by not having the pick at all.

I'd reserve judgment on the OL and Jamaal Lewis for now as to whether those aspects are "vastly" improved. But I certainly would have given Frye more than one series to play with the "capable" RB and the "vastly" improved offensive line before I ran him off the field in a chorus of boos.

But then again, we are talking about a fanbase that cheers when their quarterback gets injured and overreacts when a backup throws well in one playoff game.

An honest assessment of Frye's performance yesterday was that he played horrible. I was hoping he could hold the fort this season to 6-10 so we wouldn't have to throw Quinn to the wolves. But the fans want what they want, regardless of what is best in the long run.

this is apologist material at its finest. charlie frye has not improved one iota since his rookie year. the fan reaction resmebled his play period. if quinn is the best option at qb, there is no reason why he shouldn't start. there is no empirical data that shows sitting qb early on improves long term success. that is a fallacy that has grown from the tim couch debacle.

Ok fine, throw him to the wolves. They aren't going to win anything with or without him anyway.

Just don't complain when he's getting his brains beaten in and is no better than Frye or Anderson are....and trust me, he WILL be getting booed by the end of the year.

Actually, Charlie Frye played worse yesterday than he has since he put on a Browns' jersey. So if you really want to rip him, you could say he's regressing. I simply would have reserved a little judgment until at least after the second series of the season. But you've got a fan base that's just itching to whine and complain about everything.

I don't really care if you call me an "apologist," as if I would consider that a bad thing. If Charlie doesn't have the ability to lead this team, then that's a limitation he has that the coaching staff needs to identify. But it's not as if he's out there sucking on purpose. If that were the case, then I could understand booing your team's players. It's just stupid.

The idea of throwing Quinn out there is aburd to me.....mediocre line play + mediocre speed at wideout ='s terrible QB play

I mentioned in another thread, how John Clayotn said on the Colin Cowherd show during the preseason, that the Browns had the slowest receiving core he's seen in a very long time....they didn't get off the line fast enough or into their breaks fast enough...imagine being a QB facing a blitzing D w/ receivers who need an eternity to get open or any type of seperation at all

And I agree w/ Bernie when he says, "we couldn't win w/ Jesus at QB"....Tom Brady and Peyton Manning would have had similar results to Derek Anderson..when you're forcing thorws into small areas while the D is breathing down your neck, it causes bad throws..just look at Peyton Manning's post season game against the Steelers in 2005

Brady Quinn will struggle big-time if thrown out there, and it's easy to say people will understand that and give him some breathing room....but let's be serious, as soon as he has one bad game everyone will bring up his contract hold-out and talk about him being the next Tim Couch

It's really a no-win situation to throw him out there with this current roster....plus, as far as Savage goes, he helps maintain job security by not playing Quinn early b/c he can always point to next year w/ a fresh start

For somebody that dislikes the Browns so much, you spend a lot of time on this thread.

Rumor is Dorsey is back in Berea. What are the chances the Browns carry 4 QBs?

From what I'm hearing...pretty good. Ernster may be gone after one week and Dorsey back to mentor Brady for the start next week...

Oh because I see the season as lost due to YEARS of bad front office moves and I see absolutely NO reason to get Brady Quinn killed means I hate the Browns?

 ok....whatever you say....I'd think that hating that mess they called a team that was put out on the field would show that I'm, in fact, a TRUE Browns fan, but I guess not. I guess throwing the boy wonder out there to get his head taken off (and be booed by the fans in all likelihood) is the best of best ideas. Ok I'll drink that cool-aid....oh wait no I won't....

Might I ask your options for fixing this mess? I'm so sure they are so much better than anyone else's :roll1:

I think they should pick a QB (Quinn) and stick with him for the year.

I think Brady has enough self confidence and arrogance that he will not fold like Couch did during adversity. I see no reason not to start him.

I think DA and Frye are horrible excuses for QB's and Browns fans are "tired of waiting until next year."

I think you are someone who loves to lurk this thread and trash the Browns doing nothing more than regurgitating the obvious problems, yet offering no solutions.
