BEREA ? Is Brady Quinn ready?
"From what I've seen, I think he is," tight end Steve Heiden said Monday, as the Browns digested their 34-7 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Tom Archdeacon: Browns finished with Frye as starter

CLEVELAND ? Charlie Frye's days as the Cleveland Browns starting quarterback are over ? that's what I think.
And how can they not be after the Browns' embarrassing debacle in Sunday's season opener ? a 34-7 flop against the rival Pittsburgh Steelers that saw an unglued Frye get yanked with 6:34 left in the second quarter.

There's no defending this defense Too many questions for Browns, coach
Published on Tuesday, Sep 11, 2007

BEREA: Reducing the Browns' problems Sunday against the Pittsburgh Steelers to one position is kind of like reducing the federal deficit to one bad check.
But this is football, so most folks still will start with the quarterback.
At this point, though, if other areas of the team do not come together, it won't matter if Mother Teresa plays quarterback except maybe she could provide the miracle this team needs to start winning.

Is Quinn start near? Crennel won't rule it out; Ken Dorsey might be re-signed
By Marla Ridenour Beacon Journal sportswriter

BEREA: Browns coach Romeo Crennel didn't rule out the possibility that rookie quarterback Brady Quinn would start Sunday's home game against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Ken Dorsey, Quinn's mentor until he was released Sept. 1, was at Browns headquarters Monday evening and that lends credence to the theory that he is being brought back to help get Quinn ready.
Ready for whom is the question.

Crennel silent on any changes coming
Tuesday, September 11, 2007
By Steve Doerschuk
REPOSITORY SPORTS WRITER

A few long passes from where the NFL champion Canton Bulldogs once played, Cleveland Browns talk ricocheted around the CYC workout room.

Many CYC regulars follow the Browns. Some are young. A few were born not long after the Bulldogs left town.

None has lived to see the Browns as fragile as they appeared in Sunday's 34-7 home loss to Pittsburgh.

BROWNS REPORT

Bernie on Brady

Browns icon Bernie Kosar said he wouldn't start Brady Quinn at quarterback against the Bengals.

"In the short run, I don't know if it really helps," Kosar said during a WKNR-AM 850 interview Monday. "In the long run, history shows it is really counterproductive. You run the risk of losing a young quarterback."

BEREA -- With their quarterback situation in disarray and the team searching for a way to explain why they played so poorly against the Steelers, the Browns are turning to quarterback Ken Dorsey for help.

Dorsey, the mentor for rookie Brady Quinn cut Sept. 1, was back in the training complex in Berea yesterday afternoon for a meeting with offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski. He was not signed by the 4 p.m. deadline for NFL transactions, but he will likely be signed today.

Hope I'm wrong, but rookie QBs tend to struggle early. Since we are to this point, I hope Brady won't have his confidence (which is a good thing in a QB) crushed by the team around him here. I know he had mediocre talent around him at Notre Dame, as we told Bonus all last week, this is an entirely different level now.

It's kind of a quandary. The running game helps the passing game and vice versa. I think it was billmac91 who posted it earlier, but the quick hitters aren't there because the receivers aren't quick enough to beat the defenders there.

You're probably watching the Bengals-Ratbirds game right now right? The Browns need a guy like Derrick Mason, a smaller WR who has good hands and can cut all day long. Braylon, Joe and the rest can't do it, and I don't think Cribbs is the answer at the moment either.

rookie qb's do struggle early. so do 2nd year men that have not taken a real game snap as well. there is no empirical evidence to indicate starting rookies deters their progress anymore than letting them sit for a year.

as for the quick hitters, i would strongly suggest that you rewatch the game if you DVR'd it. there are at minimum 4 times where cleveland ran quick slants and the wr's were wide open and the qb's didn't get them the ball. anderson threw behind edwards once, and i believe winslow a 2nd time. frye threw behind JJ once, and edwards a 2nd time.

tim carter was signed to be the mason-type wr. however, the franderson twins lack the requisite mental capacity to look for their 3rd options on any pass route, even when holding the ball for 5+ seconds.
