Cleveland Browns (2007 & prior)

BTW , don't get me wrong , I have had nothing but pity for the Browns and their fans for so long that I would welcome some success for them. In fact I grew up listening to their games when they had Lou "the toe" with my grandfather. But that was in another time and/or world. well over 20 years or 30 hmmm 40 ? yup lol

No one wants your pity.

Anyway, you asked how Browns who didn't like the drafting of Quinn will respond if he's successful. The answer is simple. They'll cheer.

Running backs Chris Barclay and Jerome Harrison are locked in a fierce battle for the third tailback spot.
Barclay caught a swing pass from Brady Quinn on Quinn's first play in the fourth quarter and turned it into a 30-yard gain. On the next play, he caught a 5-yard out from Quinn to the Lions' 29. The receptions led to Quinn's touchdown pass to receiver Efrem Hill five plays later.
On Quinn's second touchdown drive, Harrison caught five passes, including a 6-yard touchdown that pulled the Browns to within 23-20.

I guess what I don't understand is why the Browns coaching staff is so thrilled with Cribbs. Granted he can play multiple positions but does he play any of them extremely well especially WR. I would rather see them keep both of these RBs and let Cribbs go.

Regardless of who he was facing......he looked sharp....he brought a spark to the team and the stadium and he didn't make any mistakes.....put him with the first team offense and see what he can do.....he deserves the opportunity after last night.....

just think,he got the most out of the third-team offense, these guys won't even be on the team. just imagine what he would do with some real weapons. I think K2 is going benefit greatly from Quinn's presence. Quinn looks really polished

You can't replace that.. those are the qualities this team badly needs..some spark, some energy .. much like MoC stepping on the field during the scUM game, just changes everything...

Since before the draft and after as I watched the posts from all the
Browns fans and taken note of all the BQ badmouthing and hate. I have been wondering what would happen if Quinn succeeded as the QB. What they all would say and feel and how funny it would be. Now that it looks possible that he might be the second coming of Christ to Cleveland what say you now Browns fans (Chuckling)
I'll agree with everyone here, i didn't take the "wait and see approach", but i always said i hope he turns into an all star.. if he does great! If he dosen't, well then i called it  i'm covered either way :wink2:

I hope I have to eat crow sometime, but he is going to have to play like this in real games to change my mind. I do think he should get a chance to play with the starters next week since Frye and Anderson are competing to see who can suck more.
Agree 100% here, this is how i feel too..

i'm starting to come around on BQ :( .. but needs to show it against some NFL players first

As to Bernie, he has sounded like that as long as I can remember. He has been on Rizzo's radio show often the past week and sounds like that at 10 in the morning. He may sound like a goof, but IIRC he graduated from Miami in three years with a degree in economics.

As to Quinn, what impressed me the most was he was in command while on the field. You knew who was in charge, as opposed to Frye and Anderson who seemed hesistant, as usual. Quinn took what they gave him and made no mental mistakes (again, see Frye and Anderson).

Romeo has to give Quinn significant playing time this week and in the next preseason game. If his pride and stubborness prevent him from doing this he will not be around next year. I like Romeo and hope he makes the right decision to get a better idea of what Quinn can do.

I still stay by my call that Quinn will be starting after the bye week, which I believe is week 7.

hell, Quinn looked great the final 10 minutes against detriot....

I'd say start him 3rd Quarter next game, and let him open on the final day of preseason;
if his play is consistent with what we got a glimpse of yesterday, I'd give him the go for opening day vs Pittsburgh.

The mighty Quinn

Rookie QB debuts with 2 TDs in Browns' loss to Lions

CLEVELAND (AP) -- Brady Quinn's biggest throw could turn out to be a monkey wrench.
With flashbulbs popping all around the stadium, Cleveland's rookie quarterback tossed two fourth-quarter touchdown passes in his first NFL exhibition game and looked better than any Browns quarterback in a 23-20 loss to Detroit on Saturday night.
Quinn's performance -- 13-of-20 for 155 yards in the final 9:20 -- may muddle Cleveland's starting quarterback competition between Charlie Frye and Derek Anderson, who were both booed by Browns fans.
Asked if Quinn is now in the mix to be his starter, Browns coach Romeo Crennel didn't say no.
"I think you've got to give the young man credit," Crennel said. "Their best guys weren't in there but our best guys weren't in there either. I'll look at the tape and we'll decide. He's still a young quarterback and he had a limited offense and I believe in time that he's going to be a good quarterback.

Cribbs has been one of the best returners in the league the past few years. He probably isn't a long term option as the 3rd WR, but he gives you options and can play QB as well if needed. The reverse in the first game went for good yardage and I'm sure they have a pass to run off of that later on.

Quinn makes the most of chance

Rookie QB leads Cleveland on two touchdown drives late in Saturday's loss to Detroit Lions.

CLEVELAND ? Young girls with cameras and wearing No. 10 jerseys squealed with delight, and even the old coach, Romeo Crennel, had to admit Brady Quinn looked pretty good Saturday night in a 23-20 preseason loss to the Detroit Lions.
Will the rookie be taken seriously now as a possible starter Sept. 9 against the Pittsburgh Steelers?

Quinn sizzles, but it's too late

QB has two touchdown passes in the fourth quarter of Cleveland's 23-20 loss to Detroit.

CLEVELAND ? Thousands of Browns fans, eager for their first glimpse of rookie quarterback Brady Quinn, hung around Saturday night when otherwise they would have had no reason.
And the first-round draft choice from Notre Dame treated the diehards to two touchdown passes deep in the fourth quarter of an otherwise dismal 23-20 preseason loss to the Detroit Lions in Cleveland Browns Stadium.

Don't start about Quinn being starter Use veteran Jurevicius more in the offense
Published on Monday, Aug 20, 2007

Scribbles in my Browns notebook. . . .
Brady Quinn should be the backup quarterback. He should play a lot in the final two preseason games. He should see a lot of snaps in a practice. But he should not start for the Browns.
It doesn't matter that Quinn is the only quarterback to give fans a reason to cheer. He looked very good in the fourth quarter of the Browns' 23-20 loss to the Detroit Lions on Saturday. But it was against third-stringers of one of the NFL's worst teams playing the dreaded prevent defense. There were open receivers everywhere.

Crennel's future lies with Quinn

Monday, August 20, 2007Bud Shaw
Plain Dealer Columnist
Brady Quinn will become the Browns' starter sooner than later. The remaining intrigue is whether that transition becomes permanent with Romeo Crennel still in his job.
Quinn's work Saturday and the giddy reaction to it were reminiscent of Tim Couch in 1999.

Who will be the QB?
Monday, August 20, 2007
By STEVE DOERSCHUK

BEREA

Romeo Crennel went into the Great Lakes Classic hoping Charlie Frye or Derek Anderson would emerge as the superior choice.

Instead, neither Anderson nor Frye turned in a classic performance against Detroit.

Brady Quinn played so well, all things considered, that it seems logical for Crennel to look at the Browns? quarterback battle in a new light:

It?s a three-horse race.
