What about Texas A&M? They're above average in both Football and Mens hoops - have they faced suspensions/sanctions?

Can't say I follow them much.
Not a great horse to pick

Texas A&M received NCAA probation last week. In related developments, the federal deficit rose, the sun set in the west and Roseanne said something controversial.
OK, so the Aggies aren't that habitual. Their most recent probation, No. 7, ties them with SMU and Wichita State for the lead among bad guys. Given that the Aggies have been nailed three times since 1990, you have to like their momentum to take sole possession of first place.
With that sort of rap sheet, it would seem as if Texas A&M would end up in the football nether regions where Oklahoma State and SMU have been living for the past five years.
Nope. The NCAA banned the Aggies from the postseason and from television for the 1994 season but took away no scholarships.
The Committee on Infractions saluted the effort put forth by Texas A&M to uncover what happened. Texas A&M received an unusually long probation term of five, years. Only two other schools have received more than four years. Under NCAA regulations, a university is susceptible to the death penalty for five years after its probation ends.
Note, the above was written in 1994.

In my opinion saying everyone does it is a cop out.......I think it is impossible to recruit top 150 players and be successful with out the bad apple that takes full advantage of anyone offering hook ups etc... what I think should be the differential is...is it institutional and systemic or is it bad apples leading the perk frenzy or doing crimes every now and again.

There are over a hundred 17(Lydell Ross)-37(Chris Wieeieneieke) year olds in a given program. Take a hundred people of that demographic from any walk of life and you're going to have assholes, douchebags, and bitch made motherfuckers. It's human nature. The NCAA is the only fucking organization on the planet that thinks they can punish asshole out of existance. The shitty thing is, they may have been able to had they handed out punishments equally and consistently. They don't and won't, so I don't give a fuck what they do.

If you're just going by the criteria of who i) has had consistent success in the two money sports, ii) hasn't been found guilty of major NCAA violations in recent years, and iii) doesn't have an above average arrest rate for athletes in the money sports, there are probably several schools that would qualify. One that comes to mind (with the caveat that I don't know much about arrest rates at any schools) would be Wisconsin.

edit: Maybe Texas and Florida as well, but again, I have no idea how many of their players have been before judges in recent years.

If you use arrests we are dirty crook thugs. If you use convictions, we make Mother Teresa look like Lindsay Lohan. :paranoid:

And how long is "recent years"? We last got sanctioned like a rental mule in 1990 for major violations stuff done in the mid 1980s.

Not sure about Texas, but Gainesville has practically needed to install a courtroom in the practice facility a'la Veterans Stadium in Philly.

We do have a problem. It is not an excuse, but by way of exacerbation the relationship between the UPD and GPD and the athletes is one of "we are looking to bust your spoiled, pompous, better than me Mr. gonna be a millionaire ass" thing. We do bring it on ourselves, but unlike some departments who are in the making it go away, phone call to an assistance coach to smooth over the problem philosophy, the UPD and GPD have a hard on looking to arrest an athlete.

Which makes our guys getting in trouble for DUI and weed and such even more unfathomably stupid. We all know this, and yet they still act like invincible 19 year olds and continue to do the stupid stuff.
