Cincinnati Bengals (Just Burrow In)

Brian Callahan is Titans new HC.

Dan Pitcher is interviewing to replace him, but he's also interviewing with several other teams.
Saw that move and can't say I am disappointed. Lately he's been about as disappointing with his play calling than OSU has. Pretty sure we can do better...if not, maybe our offense just isn't as good as thought it was.

Looking at the mock drafts (obviously will change after combine and pro days), I am convinced there will be an OT to take that is worth taking. Any of Latham, Fuaga, Fashanu, Guyton or Mims works (Alt if he falls some, but I don't see that happening). Bower won't fall to us at No. 18 but of course if in some bizarre scenario he is there, go for it.

Second and third rounds, I would say TE/DT are the biggest needs, if a really good RB is there maybe since Mixon's time here is almost over. Maybe WR if we don't keep Higgins and/or Boyd. So pretty wide open here aside from QB/DE/LB/CB/S. CB should be set with CTB, Turner, Hilton and Ivey, safety is good with Battle emerging.

Really we just HAVE to get an OT that is not a bust, a good TE at some point, and a DT.

I’m kind of hoping Mike Hall is there in the 3rd round. He’d be a great addition to the DL. I still think you need a run stuffing big man, but I also think there should be guys available in FA that shouldn’t break the bank. I’m in the same boat as far as draft strategy. Go OT as long as the top 15 doesn’t go crazy with them. If a top 2 CB drops to 18, you should absolutely take him. And if in some wild scenario Brock Bowers drops to us, you don’t even take any time to submit the pick. He’s a Kittle/Kelce/Andrews type of TE that can win you games when you need them, and would soften the blow of losing Boyd and likely Higgins in the same year or back to back years if they end up tagging Higgins.

Dax Hill can’t be starting next year. Don’t care if he’s replaced through the draft or FA.
Was he really that bad? I didn't notice him being a regular problem for the defense. Scott was at safety but swapping him out with Battle seemed to help a lot. I don't think we can bail on Dax yet, but maybe find someone else for Scott in FA seems like a move.

He was rated one of the worst Safeties in the NFL. If they believe he will improve, that’s fine. He has the athleticism but doesn’t know how to play Safety. Not sure if that’s a coaching issue or a Dax issue, but we can’t afford such poor play.

Hmm didn't know that, usually I pick up on that type of thing over the course of a season. Must have selective memory. Maybe just needed more time to learn the position, but agreed that in year 3 he has to turn into the player that justified a 1st round pick.

Seeing some mocks where Bower falls to us. Still skeptical, but it looks like there's only two other teams who might need him. This class is super deep at OT, so taking one in the second round should work out if Bower is available. If he's not there, should be plenty of quality OTs there. Hoping one of Latham or the PSU OT is there if I had my realistic preference.

If that happens…..

It really blows my mind at how bad Tobin has been (and continues to be) at evaluating OL talent pre draft. You’d think he’d bring better scouts in specifically for scouting OL talent.

Not surprised overall, but a little surprised on Volson. Didn't he have a great rookie year? Maybe I'm wrong on that. That also reminded me we don't have 2nd round pick Jackson Carman's rating because he was beat out by Volson and Williams.

To @TooTall point, the absolute and utter failure at scouting OL (or developing them) in recent years is unreal. It's not like we haven't tried to pick at the position, we're just bad at it. Exhibit A being Oghbei and Fisher back to back in the 1st and 2nd being absolute busts. Jonah Williams = absolute bust and regular liability. Michael Jordan, granted 4th round, absolute bust. Billy Price in the 1st round = absolute bust. Carman Jackson in the 2nd round = absolute bust. There are plenty of other later picks that were also busts and I might be forgetting some names.

With that track record, I would think it's both horrible scouting and coaching honestly. It's been the absolute Achilles heel for this team and I feel like we're one guy away from being good at OL (someone to replace Williams, still have some hope for Volson).
