Cincinnati Bearcats (Juggalos official thread of Faygo)

I agree. H&G said that "The venomn and hate the spewed on this board towards UC back then was 100X worse than this." Setting aside the ridiculous "100X" claim, here's nothing even remotely close to "venomn [sic] and hate" in that thread. He's 100% wrong.

I'm ususally right 97% of the time....

and most statistics are made up on the spot 84% of the time...

does that thread include the moderated/deleted posts, by the way?

Heck, with all the 'sudden' success, maybe the NCAA will investigate UC, and then what? One never knows. Kinda like a stock that suddenly soars, and the regulators want to know why.

Investigate what? How UC was able to bring in all those players that Ohio State, M*ch*g*n & Ntre Ame didn't even want?

There were 2 deleted posts in that thread - one was for an article that had already been posted elsewhere, and the other was one that you deleted yourself because it had been double-posted.

I saw no infractions given for anything in the thread.

You may be remembering the strong reaction you had when another poster, a couple days before that game, used the term 'Cincitucky'.

As always, I'm more concerned with UofL and Tony Pike's health and how OSU's offense is going to rebound against the Gophers than I am with a stupid t-shirt and radio add...

Funny thing is that I'm not. I'm a lot more concerned with Ohio State University first and how its football team does a distant, distant second.

I'm also well aware of the history and the hatchet job that the Fredo schools did to OSU in the sixties (although admittedly UC was not part of this) and the seething jealousy that still bubbles just under the surface (UC is certainly part of this). They'd do it again in a second if the political conditions were right, and I'm talking about the administrations at these schools--not a bunch of blowhards on a UC message board.

So, when one of these bitter little brothers actually runs scoreboard graphics and sells t-shirts mocking the state's flagship university, I sure as hell am going to call them out for it.

That being said, if you've written the athletic department as an alumnus calling them out for their shameful and petty behavior you're to be commended.

You're right there, jib. Kelly runs a clean program, and I believe that his team has an apr much higher than ours.

This post seems to imply that the academics of tOSU's football team are lacking. The last two times I've seen the overall GPA for the football team, it was 3.02 and 2.96. I also believe that tOSU has led the league in All-Academic honorees for athletes the last several years, and football is a large part of that.

I also read the gpa information when it's released. I just know that whenever the official apr is released, we barely seem to squeak by the minimum. Not bad, or lacking, based on the standards that have been set by the NCAA. I'd like to see better though. Also, our grad rate, while improved the last few years, is still at or near the bottom of Big Ten football teams.

I'm not saying that we're Florida State or any SEC school not named Vanderbilt. I just see a lot of room for improvement in this area. It's also one area where we shouldn't be criticizing Kelly's program.

I don't see how you 'know that'. From the latest APR in May of 2009:

May.1.2009.tOSU.APR

Dispatch
...

The football program has an APR of 968, which ranks in the 80th-90th percentile nationally.

Cont'd ...

For someone who cares so much about the academic reputation of tOSU, as I sincerely believe that you do, I would think that you would want to avoid inaccurately disparaging tOSU's position, even when it's just the academics associated with the football team.

Cincinnati's latest football APR was a 947, in the 60th-70th percentile. That's not bad, but it's below Ohio State's most recent rating.
