Cincinnati 49, Illinois 36 (final)

The reffing in this game has been atrocious. It is time to take the conference affiliations out of the equation. There is simply too much money involved and these calls are bringing up the question whether conference officials will call a fair game if they believe it may cost them a BCS berth or National Championship appearance. It maybe time for the NCAA to take over officiating and do away with the affliations......

I agree. Now, watch UC try to score quickly and run up the score.

How in God's name could a top ten team give up 36 points to fucking Illinois? That's pathetic. If you thought watching UC get ape raped in a BCS bowl was funny last year, just wait until this year. If they get paired with anybody other than Boise State, they're going to lose by 3 touchdowns. TCU would murder them to death, and it wouldn't even be close.

Kelly needs to cash in on this season and get the hell out of town before that disaster comes down the pike.

Yeah, you can't compare Illinois today to who they were and how they played when they played Ohio State. Illinois offense has gotten on track lately, and as mentioned before, the rain was pretty bad that day. Comparing what a team does one day to another just doesn't work anyway. If you'd want to see how OSU matches up against Cincy, they'd have to play, and I'd think we'd be a pretty tough match-up for them. I think Pitt will also be. If Cincy can beat Pitt, then they deserve a shot at a NC in my opinion, but I honestly think Pitt will be too much for them.

I really don't think that the Notre Dame job is an option after this game. They will lose to Pittsburgh and their bowl game.

The handouts from the refs (which the Big Ten should protest). The Illini meltdown on special teams. Cincy have been exposed.

Anyone who remembers what the Big East refs tried to do in the '07 WVU/Pitt game shouldn't be surprised by any calls UC has or will get this year.

That replay of a fumble they decided was a TD a few weeks ago was one of the worst things I have seen lately.

Considering this, do you think you may be giving them a bit more credit than is due?

  • In its previous 5 games, Illinois managed only 16 points against Northwestern and 14 against the Spartans and the Boilermakers.
  • They scored 38 and 35 against the Wolverweenies and Gophers, respectively. The Wolverweenies gave up 30 or more in seven games including both FCS games prior to the Illini. Minnesota gave up more than 30 in 4 of the seven games prior to the Illini game, including the two games prior to playing the Illini.

To be frank, I think that even putting 49 points on the board, UC will hold on to their coach this year. Notre Dame has seen an offensive genius.

What pisses me off is that Kelly will use it to get his second contract extension in three years AND blackmail the university into spending a lot of money that they don't have (UC has grossly overextended themselves in an athletic and non-athletic building spree over the last decade) on facilities, practice fields and expanding Nippert.

Then he'll leave anyway, when he realizes that being at UC is not an automatic route to the BCS, and the Ohio taxpayers will be left picking up the pieces.
