Charlie Weis (ex-Kansas HC, ex-Fla OC, Notre Dame legend, UnDecided Schematic Advantage)

SOUTH BEND, Ind.
- Coach Charlie Weis isn't worried about Notre Dame's slow start hurting the upcoming recruiting class.

Recruiting could be the silver lining to the 0-2 start, he said.

"All these guys want to go to a school where they think they have an opportunity to play, and I think that most of them, based off the evidence they have after the first two games, would like their prospects," he said.

Weis has talked to most of the players who have verbally committed - 19 so far according to media reports - and has received encouraging responses.

Cont'd ...

The thoughts that come out Weis' mouth, prompted or no, sometimes amaze me.

Ka-Thunk, Ka-Thunk, Ka-Thunk ....

The sound of this year's ND team getting thrown under the bus while Weis sits back and waxes lyrical about next season's crop of incoming Freshmen.

The proper answer, from any other coach in college football, about "how is the poor start affecting recruiting?" is one of the following pat lines:

-- All our recruits are holding steady, we hope and expect them all to sign with us come NLOID, or;
-- It's a long season and a long time to NLOID, we have this week's game first against TSUN, so I'm focused on that first, or:
-- We are happy with our incoming class as it stands now, but the really important thing is getting the current squad to play to their fullest potential.

But, no, effectively unbidden Weis places the 2008 class on a presumptive pedestal and then effectively chucks under-performing frosh right in the path of the team bus.

I was reading Irish Eyes and they kept mentioning something about Weis saying he wanted to vomit. Can anyone expound on this?

I think that was in response to a question about what he thought of watching the film of the previous game.

Today he just said he wasn't going to watch UM film, they were "going back to day 1 of training camp"...man, I'm sure Dantonio and Tiller are terrified :slappy:
