Charlie Weis (ex-Kansas HC, ex-Fla OC, Notre Dame legend, UnDecided Schematic Advantage)

I don't know why more coaches haven't adopted the Tressel doctrine: if you have a mediocre line, recruit mobile QBs to compensate for it. This OL of Ntre Ame is going to bog Charlie down sooner or later.
He had his mobile QB. He had Demetrius Jones. But, he put Golden Arm boy back there as a true Freshman instead.

Good point, and I think those are perfectly losable games for ND. UCONN has built up a solid mid-level program. Stanford struggled this year, and I don't know how they look going into next year, but playing at home, I could see Harbaugh pulling the upset.
Easy on the peyote and 'shrooms, guys. U Conn is like having another MAC team on your schedule and Stanford is the Indiana of the Pac 10. Put both in the W column.

I was thinking the same, Stanford isn't really a "gimme game" anymore.

Come on, Stanford? A weak team in a weak conference. And U Conn only discovered football two years ago, right after Rutgers.

Yes, upsets happen. The Syracuse pig does, sometimes, find the acorn. This was the second year they ruined someone's season.

There is talent at ND, more talent than most schools can collect. As their schedule gets progressively weaker their wins will mount. Charlie's bad coaching can be overcome by having more talent on the field than the other guy.

ESPN - Notre Dame Fighting Irish coach Charlie Weis needs surgery to right knee, then left

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis needs to have surgery on his right knee before doctors can operate on his more seriously injured left knee.

Weis found out this week that he has a torn lateral meniscus in his right knee as well as damage to a bone that will require doctors to shave the bone, school spokesman Brian Hardin said Friday night.

Weis could undergo surgery as early as next week before the Irish (6-6) leave Friday to play in the Hawaii Bowl, or could wait until the first or second week of January.

It seems the days of holier than thou Notre Lame are at least thinning out. It was assumed that they uphold "superior academic standards" and schedule tough opponents while turning down bowl games they don't feel are good enough for them to bless us with their presence. I would say the latter two are CLEARLY being abandoned while the former is becoming debatable. They clearly still think they're better than everyone else, but their reasons and excuses list is getting shorter.

Doctors told Weis the damage to his left knee was so severe it appeared that he had been in a car crash. He tore the anterior cruciate, medial collateral and posterior cruciate ligament and the lateral meniscus in that knee.
This is an oft quoted statement, but it would be a good time to revisit this. If you take a mouse and blow it up to the size of an elephant, its legs wont support their weight. The strength doesn't scale properly with size. There is a reason why elephants have legs the size of tree trunks. The human body is just not designed to hold that much weight. Seriously Chuck, what were you thinking...?
