Charlie Weis (ex-Kansas HC, ex-Fla OC, Notre Dame legend, UnDecided Schematic Advantage)

The theory that employees within an organization (or in Charlie's case football coaching) will advance to their highest level of competence and then be promoted to and remain at a level at which they are incompetent.

* Theory that people rise in their career in every hierarchy to the level of their own incompetence; based on the book The Peter Principle and Why Things Always Go Wrong by Lawrence J. Peter.

Mangini wins hands down and tied to his ankles.

If you're talking about Mangino, I think Weis loses again due to his ligament damage, and not because of a defective schematic advantage.

Not around meal time. I have a pretty strong stomach but this might make me give up my lunch watching these two losing their super meal right there on the track. I don't think ligament damage slowed down Weis any.

South Bend Tribune: ND hits back with force
ND hits back with force

Even the Fighting Irish coaching staff made an impact against Purdue.
One of the hardest hits Purdue running back Kory Sheets took Saturday against Notre Dame was delivered by someone who hasn?t donned a football jersey in 15 years, Irish assistant strength and conditioning coach Rick Perry.

Sheets careened into the Irish sideline during ND?s 38-21 conquest of the Boilermakers Saturday at Notre Dame Stadium, where Perry ? a former football player at Southwest Missouri State (now Missouri State) ? tackled him.
When Sheets got up, he was a little stunned by it,? ND fourth-year head coach Charlie Weis said.

Weis quickly explained to Sheets that Perry was simply doing his job, specifically protecting the Irish head coach on the sideline from any further physical damage. Weis suffered both a torn medial collateral ligament and a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee during ND?s 35-17 win over Michigan on Sept. 13.

(Sheets) was a little bit away from me,? Weis said. ?I think Rick was being a little overprotective. But I?d rather him err on the side of caution, to tell you the truth.?

Apparently so would Perry and Weis? other ?bodyguards? ? given the alternative.

?I told them if I get hit, they get fired,? Weis said with a chuckle. ?It?s pretty easy.?
Maybe he should get in the booth instead of blindsiding kids who dare to get near him.

Isn't this just justification for putting a cheap shot on Purdue's best player? I mean, nobody on State Penn's sideline blindsided Juice Williams on Saturday, so what gives?

Get in the booth you stupid fucks. If you're too old or too fat or too slow to get out of the way, you shouldn't be on the damn sideline.

Talk about blowing stuff out of proportion... I was at the game and all that happened was the guy was blocked from going into the sideline.
Nothing cheap about it. Sounds like the Colonel was another band member.

So in South Bend beating Purdue is a conquest?

In OSU country it is kind of a given.

FOX Sports on MSN - COLLEGE FOOTBALL - Willingham's failure doesn't make Weis better

Here's what Notre Dame football fans don't seem to comprehend:

1. I've never stated that Tyrone Willingham was a great (or even good) coach; 2. I never blasted Notre Dame for firing Tyrone Willingham; 3. My problem with Charlie Weis and Notre Dame is the premature, undeserved lifetime contract he received after proving nothing and the reach-around Notre Dame and Weis received from most of the media during his first season.

<snip>

They somehow think that Willingham's failure at Washington justifies giving Weis a record contract at Notre Dame. And they also believe that Willingham's demise nullifies the truths expressed in my previous columns about the Great Weis Hope.
Sorry, Charlie.
Even with the Irish sitting at 5-2, every word in those columns still rings true. Notre Dame and a hefty percentage of the sports media overreacted to Weis' hot start, and Weis' complexion played a role in the overreaction.

As of today, we have little evidence that Weis is a better college football coach than Willingham.
Notre Dame fans are repeating the same mistake they made in 2005 when the school overpaid for Weis. They're turning conceited based on a glossy record compiled against weak competition.

<snip>

Has The Great Weis Hope so lowered expectations at Notre Dame that a 5-2 team incapable of cracking the top 25 is worthy of celebration and I-told-you-so e-mails?

<snip>

Willingham's resignation at Washington isn't going to make Notre Dame a national-title contender or justify Weis' bloated salary. Charlie will have to do that himself.
