Charlie Weis (ex-Kansas HC, ex-Fla OC, Notre Dame legend, UnDecided Schematic Advantage)

Charlie's still fat and ND will have to wait yet another year to claim they're "back" as a national contender. I would've thought the wizard would've been better by now with all those great recruits.:roll1:

Can we let Willingham go already? I can't believe the media continues to tie him to this school, what other coach constantly gets brought up 4 years after he leaves his previous job. Old news, tbh. So Weis wasn't the heavenly coach that was going to bring ND "back to glory" quickly. He has better offensive production and his teams at least improve. Willingham's teams only seemed to get worse after the first year. This argument is so drawn out though, these hack writers need something original to write about.

I sympathize with you. How's George O'Leary doing these days?

George hasn't done badly for himself at all. That was certainly an...interesting hiring process. I think they ended up pulling the job out under him at ND because they thought he lied on his application or something. I've gotta go back and remember why they didn't end up keeping him. We almost had Urban Meyer that same year I think. Meyer went to Bob Davies at ESPN and asked him what he thought, Bob said "You can't win at ND anymore." So he went to Florida instead. Smart move on his part, really, got a National Championship there already as well as a Heisman last year.

Well the OMC (Offensive Messiah Coach) couldn't figure out a way to get a yeard on 4th down in regulation, or a TD in any of 4 OTs. Seems like the genius could have done better than that with all that time to prepare for a team that just gave up 54 to freaking RUTGERS.

Looks like Weis is destined for mediocrity, but then we all knew that.

ND fans used "Ty's recruits" as an excuse every time Charlie came up short his first couple years - which is amazing considering Brady Quinn, a Ty recruit, bailed his ass out several times late in games - so spare me the complaining about "letting Ty go" now.

The fact is, Charlie's best seasons at ND were his first two - with Ty's recruits. Wasn't Ty fired, allegedly, because he wasn't recruiting well?

The problem is Notre Dame recruits are always overhyped and it sets up unrealistic expectations. How many Notre Dame recruits actually belonged at the Army All-American game over the last several years? Yet, all you hear about are these great All-Americans coming in. Their classes are never as great as they're cracked up to be, its just uninformed people beleiving the hype and not understanding how recruiting services work and why NBC would put half the Notre Dame class in the All-American game.

Agree here...Haven't Charlies recruiting classes the last couple of years been rated top 5....and this upcoming year's class is supposedly up there as well....so tell me how has Ty hurt Charlie...

Weis says that he is afraid of his team's mental state...

Irish receiver Golden Tate said the team started to get comfortable after Notre Dame went up by two touchdowns on Pitt at halftime.
"I think we were a little too comfortable and we didn't come out hungry," said Tate..." (link)

ESPN - Pitt stops Notre Dame, now bowl eligible for first time since '04 - NCAA College Football Recap

Consolation from the offensive genius, don't get down on yourself kid.

Notre Dame's Walker, who started the season by making just 1-of-7 field goals, made his first four attempts to run his consecutive made field goal streak to seven. But his 38-yard attempt narrowly missed wide left in the fourth overtime, giving Pitt a chance to kick its way to a win.

Weis said he told Walker afterward not to blame himself, telling him: "I could give 50 plays right now that would have made a difference."

In fairness CW has only been at ND a decade or so. Wait till he gets the first generation of legacy players from his initial recruiting class. Then see who is the genius.

Just because they have three losses without playing a single team in the top 20 doesn't mean they aren't improving.
