Charlie Weis (ex-Kansas HC, ex-Fla OC, Notre Dame legend, UnDecided Schematic Advantage)

The Alphabetical, Week 12: Where 4th Down Is Not*Sacrosanct - SB Nation
W is for Weis. He's effectively fired, so let's remember him the way he's want us to remember him:
"They?re going to have to learn about us, OK? Let them try to stop a pro-style offense, which has multiple personnel groups and multiple formations. Let?s see how they are going to do. They?ve had their advantage because I?ve come into recruiting late. Well, now it?s X?s and O?s time. Let?s see who has the advantage now."
Or this:
"Every game, you will have a decided schematic advantage."
Or this:
"You are what you are folks, and right now you?re a 6-5 football team. And guess what? That?s just not good enough. It?s not good enough for you. And it?s certainly not going to be good enough for me. So, if you think they hired me here to go .500, you?you got the wrong guy."
Charlie Weis as of today has the same winning percentage (71%) as Ty Willingham did at the date of his firing (71%).

Ah, memories.

I'd like to Photoshop the sweatshirt on this one:

"I CAUSED THE IRISH POTATO FAMINE"

Is it just me? Or does it look like he just spied a pizza?

The folks at Irish Eyes are working hard to recover threads from five years ago.

The plan is to substitute the name of the new coach in threads describing how he will return the program to glory and win the NC in three years or less. Then the entire board can take the month off.

Ah, memories.

I always liked the quote from the day he was hired, something along the lines that we're going to have a hard nosed, nasty football team.

Well, he got half of that right :wink2:

The same percentage is true, but the number is only 58.3%. And you can throw Bob Davie into the equation.

35-25 .583 Bob Davie
21-15 .583 Ty Willingham (but it's still all his fault)
35-25 .583 Charlie Weis

So they've been a 7-5 team since 1997, or for 13 seasons since Dr. Lou.

And if Charlie goes 1-1 against UConn and Stanford, and gets fired before the bowl game, he will end up at 58.1%, with the worst record of the last 3 coaches.

That's OK though. He did author one of the greatest games ever played in Notre Dame's modern history, that one time he didn't get blown out by USC.
