The worst thing that could happen to ND is to prolong this experiment much longer. The cloud will hang over South Bend all season next year (unless they win their next four games which would be a small miracle) and the effect will be very similar to the effect Michigan suffered the past few seasons. Doubt will creep into recruits (and 2010 the planets will align for a bunch of high level kids who have ND on the top of their lists), kids will transfer out and the program will be set back years. If ND finishes 7-6 he should be on the unemployment line, bottom line, and if I were deciding who would be my new coach, there would be zero doubt the guy I ring first and dump a pile of cash in his lap is Butch Davis. It's about the only job he'll leave UNC for.

On the number of wins - I'm certain they will beat Syracuse. None of the rest would I be certain about, unless that is you want to count certain losses (USC). Navy should, by all rights be a revenge factor, retribution, win. But, Navy's game is not dependent on a strong aerial attack - which means they don't go into the teeth of the main strength of the Irish D. (Navy by ground : Navy by air is nearly a 5 : 1 ratio).

With losses to Navy and USC this would place them at 6-6 and into their best (cough) opportunity to break the losing Bowl Game curse. 7-6 is a definite possibility.

If that piss-poor showing (or worse should they lose the bowl game 6-7) isn't enough to rile up the alumni (and it should be) then why Davis, why not back to the man named after a Pope? It's only money - and ND has access to plenty of cash.

Domers' convincing:biggrin: win over Navy has undoubtedly saved fat bastard for another year. I'm just wondering whether he puts another slew of frosh into next year's two deep (and throws another group of seniors under the bus) just so he can continue to perpetuate the "rebuilding" myth.

This is his fourth year. These are ALL his kids, recruited by him and developed by him.

How can the domers not see what a fraud he is?

A curiousity; Why in the world would you want ND to get rid of Charlie? they might get a Schembechler.

Because I believe in justice. If he were a good, decent and honorable human being who couldn't coach I'd want him to stay and milk the ND gravy train for a long, long time. The thought, however, that this smug, arrogant tub of shit who takes credit for everything good and is never at a loss to find someone (his predecessor, his players, his assistant coaches, the "thugs and hoodlums" on other teams, other coaches) to blame for his shortcomings and failure does not get publicly humiliated and brought back down to earth through a messy, public firing just rubs me the wrong way.

Ok Ord, but no such sentiments here. I want his arrogant ass fired.

Got a chuckle from the ESPN crowd on Saturday, talking heads kept referring to the "strategic advantage." It was clear they were having some fun at ND and Charlie's expense.

I want him fired too. If he were an incompetent coach but good guy (a'la Willingham), I'd want him to stay. Besides, given his history (housing contractors, tummy tuck doctors) it's bound to end up in a nasty, bitter lawsuit that will provide entertainment for all.

Sorry if this was posted... but... Jesus.

When Reitz told Weis that Pryor might attend a Southern Cal quarterbacks camp, he remembers Weis replying: "Why send him there? If he's with me for one day he'll be good, two days he'll be great, and three days he'll be incredible."

Later, unprompted, Weis asked the Jeannette coaches if they wanted to take a picture of his Super Bowl ring. "I did it, just to be polite, and then gave [the picture] to one of the kids," Reitz recalled.

I would have taken his Superbowl ring and shoved it up his ass....

It seems to me Charlie prints off a list from the internet recruiting sites and bases his targets from there.

I've also thought this for a long time. I don't think he really knows who he's recruiting, just that they're a top 150 or whatever. I'm just amazed that they continue to get top recruits though. When are these kids going to realize that it might just be the coaching that causes the teams to suck and not just the players on the current roster? His greatest claim to fame was Brady Quinn. I still won't give him credit for Tom Brady cause he's done just fine without that fat fuck as his OC.
