Strikes me as what should be a line from Leslie Nielson in "Airplane" for some reason.

Did you mean the pilot, Peter Graves, with the line "Do you like movies about Gladiators?

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OHEivPHjimw"]YouTube - Airplane! - "Joey, have you ever...."[/ame]

So......Who wants Weis to stay and who wants him to go?

I'm torn. Knowing that the arrogant [censored] will never walk away voluntarily, I'd like to see him publicly and nationally brought down through a very messy firing. OTOH....

keeping him in South Bend only prolongs their ineptitude and digs the hole deeper and deeper for the next coach. OTOH.....

I absolutely hate the notion that Weis will somehow not be held publicly accountable for his incompetence. It's just this side of OJ getting away with it. OTOH....

Gotta think long term. What's worst for ND? That's keeping Weis on the sideline.

My head hurts.

P.s. Watch for Weis, given the opening, to completely run the score up on Navy to show off his genius and justify taking over the offense this weekend.

Man that one STINGS

If they actually played a schedule like they did when Faust was there, USC and Florida would hand them 2 straight 51-7 beatings at then end of 2009 and he would get his ass fired after going 4-8. Again. Alas, when you only play USC, teams in last place in their conference, and all teams with gold helmets...you can win enough to stay afloat. Faust could have won more games the past 3 years if he was the coach of the same players.

Just from the comments on that site alone (linked by Clevebucks), NoD fans deserve what they get.

Hell since they want to revise history to make Brady Quinn a Davie recruit (when he wasn't offered a schollie until Willingham became HC), I'm going to say that FatBoy sank the Lusitania.

I know I have my problems with Weis

on a personal level, but if I were to offer advice to Weis it would be in these three areas:

1) Simplify your playbook especially with a young team and use more of your practice time on fundamentals. You're a better tackling team because once Corwin Brown he saw how poor you were in this department. Plus you ignored recruiting defense for the most part of your first two and half seasons. Yes I'm counting 05's class.

2) Special teams is an important part of the team, teach it. It's just not the kicking game, but your returns are very poor for a team with this much high end talent. You do not block very well period.

3) Are you picking the right kids in recruiting? It seems to me Charlie prints off a list from the internet recruiting sites and bases his targets from there. Watching practice in the summer it occurred to me the only and I say only OL I would want from that team is probably Trevor Robinson. For all their talent, a lot of it doesn't fit. Charlie has 4 top 100 RB's on his roster and yet they remain one of the worst running teams in the nation. Meanwhile Michigan State has a far better line than anything Charlie will produce at ND for the next couple of years. Can't tell me they're young anymore most of these kids have at 19 games at least under their belts if not more. The defense lacks any playmakers in the front seven. The best part of this team is the secondary and it's not even close, and the guy who had direct control of that Bill Lewis is gone.

Charlie is a quality mind that every QB would love to play for, because he calls good plays. He really does, but he's just a level coordinator. He's not cut out to be a head coach, he's trying to many philosophies that are not his own to see if they work. One week he plays good cop/bad cop to inspire kids, another week it's the start over mentality we're going back to training camp that sends a message that he doesn't understand what's wrong and he's grasping at straws to see how he can fix it.

The worst thing that could happen to ND is to prolong this experiment much longer. The cloud will hang over South Bend all season next year (unless they win their next four games which would be a small miracle) and the effect will be very similar to the effect Michigan suffered the past few seasons. Doubt will creep into recruits (and 2010 the planets will align for a bunch of high level kids who have ND on the top of their lists), kids will transfer out and the program will be set back years. If ND finishes 7-6 he should be on the unemployment line, bottom line, and if I were deciding who would be my new coach, there would be zero doubt the guy I ring first and dump a pile of cash in his lap is Butch Davis. It's about the only job he'll leave UNC for.

Agree 100% Oh8ch I gotta love the coach. How can you hate any coach who will serve up wins for anyone like a waiter brings ham and eggs?
[Charlie Weis]Did someone say ham and eggs? Make mine the whole [censored]ing pig and chicken.[/Charlie Weis]

re: wanting NoD to keep/fire Weis, I'd love to see him there at least a couple more years so he can continue to screw up the talent he has recruited and demonstrate to future recruits what an asshole he really is. That way when Charlie is fired, if NoD gets lucky and finds a real coach he doesn't walk into a situation with top 10 talent waiting. Of course there are still 32 NFL teams who are dying to hire Chuckles away from NoD. Just ask his agent.
