Charlie Weis (ex-Kansas HC, ex-Fla OC, Notre Dame legend, UnDecided Schematic Advantage)

ScriptOhio;1323451; said:
Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick said Wednesday that he will not evaluate Charlie Weis until after the season, and that anyone who suggests a coaching change could occur should know that it is "not under consideration at this time."

"It's really dangerous to evaluate midyear," Swarbrick said, "but clearly we are better this year than we were last year. Look at the Colts of the NFL. The year they won the Super Bowl, they had lost to Jacksonville and everyone had written them off. Then look at the New York Giants. There are dangers in midseason evaluation."

Notre Dame is 5-4 this season and 27-19 in Weis' fourth season as head coach.
Asked what he would tell any recruit or fan who inquired about Weis' current job security, Swarbrick said: "I would tell them I am very pleased with the progress we have made this year and that we are moving in the right direction, that we're going to be even better next year, and that I would hope they would move forward with us."

There are seven years left on Weis' contract, with a reported salary of $3 million to $4 million annually. A person familiar with Weis' buyout said Tuesday that the money was so substantial that it was unrealistic to even consider.
"I've had a great relationship with Charlie," said Swarbrick, a prominent lawyer, consultant and executive in the collegiate and Olympic sports industries who was appointed in July as the school's 12th athletic director. "He's candid and straight with you. And he's helped integrate me into Notre Dame."

Swarbrick said Weis' recruiting track record also was a positive sign. Asked if it was realistic to expect Notre Dame to compete at the level it once did, Swarbrick said: "I don't know if there are another 11 national championships in our future, but I see no reason we can't compete at the highest level.

I guess what they are really saying is that he will be evaluated at year end. If he loses to Navy and USC, he probably will lose to Mickey Mouse in some bowl game. I think then we see Notre Dame lean on contributors to send him on his way.

Charlie Weis alienates Irish supporters

Losses, criticism piling up for Irish's Weis
Teddy Greenstein | ON COLLEGES

The guy who once boasted he "could get hoodlums and thugs and win tomorrow" strolled into Jeannette High School in the spring of 2007 to recruit superstar quarterback Terrelle Pryor.

Jeannette coach Ray Reitz knew a bit about Charlie Weis and his reputation. Still, he was stunned by what he describes as a level of conceit he never had seen from the dozens of college coaches he had visited with over the years.

Weis certainly made a lasting impression.

"Arrogant as hell," Reitz said.

When Reitz told Weis that Pryor might attend a USC quarterbacks camp, he remembers Weis replying: "Why send him there? If he's with me for one day he'll be good, two days he'll be great and three days he'll be incredible."

Later, unprompted, Weis asked the Jeannette coaches if they wanted to take a picture of his Super Bowl ring. "I did it, just to be polite, and then gave [the picture] to one of the kids," Reitz recalled.

It appears to me as if this is Shamu's cheap way of trying to restore the "swagger" to Ntre ame football. Problem is, someone forgot to tell him you do that by winning, particularly beating quality opponents, rather than talking like an overinflated assrocket to recruits, coaches, and parents. The best thing to do is walk it, THEN talk it, particularly when the pudwhacker has, wait for it...NEVER beaten a team that finished the season with less than 4 losses.

Flash this, assnozzle.

Many former players and alums are down on him for what they perceive as his arrogance, but they're reluctant to speak for the record.

Why? As one prominent alum explained it, "A lot of things at Notre Dame hinge on your being a friend of the university."

Alumni are fearful that if they speak out against Weis, they might lose their football tickets or their parking spots, or hinder their kids' chances for admission to the school.
What a horrible, arrogant little place. God, I hope the Big Ten never lowers itself to the level of letting a university so out of line with our values be part of the Big Ten/CIC just because of their football history.

And for those so enamored of Notre Dame's alleged academic excellence, the place is a mediocre university that's incredibly hard to get in to (due to the Catholic factor and the bizarre alumni support)--nothing more. They're not an AAU member and are nowhere near being invited to join. That's why their own faculty begged the administration (and voted 32-2 in the faculty senate) to join the Big Ten but were overruled in favor of what was best for the football program.
