Edit - I imagine this isn't far off from what BUCKYLE actually looks like now

It is the year of living dangerously, so let's get on with it.

Lead up to the Sugar Bowl it felt like a key for the Ohio State victory was the OSU DL vs. the Clemson OL.

This week, this feels like a pretty important key.

It feels like something the D can take advantage of by pressing way more than we have all season to throw off Jones and these short routes.

The trenches will be much more evenly matched, but if we can knock Jones off his timing on the short routes and make his much-less-mobile-than-Lawrence self uncomfortable in the pocket with pressure all night, I think the Buckeyes will be in great shape.

Well then, that settles it. tOSU will play press coverage, with the two safeties playing a catch-up zone, should the Bama WRs shake-and-bake the DBs out of their shoes. Game over. Seriously though, quick passes means tOSU DL is gonna have to crash a lot faster than they did against Clemson. Probably a Werner blitz might get there, but probably not. Go Bucks!

Throwing the ball quick is great but that means they aren't throwing deep which is a win.

See i dont get this attitude... I mean I agree with you that we probably won't do what's necessary to eliminate Smith. That said we could if we committed the resources.

I really wish we would double Smith with Wade and a Safety and let Banks take their #2 WR. That would mean we could commit the other 9 to the running game of Bama.

We took away Cooper in 2014 and we certainly have the ability to take away Smith this time around. Yes they have Waddle potentially coming back but will he really be good to go for an entire game? Doubtful. Metchie is good but he's nothing we haven't already seen.

The defense hasn't let anything behind us since Indiana and frankly I dont see that stopping now.

Hehe, I mean, yeah this strategy would be great, we just have to get them to let us play with 12 players on Defense.

The game plan is clear. Attempt to shut down the run and when the Bama WR's catch the ball we have to limit the yards after catch and get them on the ground.

The LB and DB tackling has to be on-point Monday night. I don't know if the pass rush is going to get there with the bodies we may have out, so DL getting their hands up and deflecting passes and the LB's and DB's limiting missed tackles is the key.

Would love to see them bring some backers up the middle and drop a DE into coverage in those slant/crossing route throwing lanes (Steve Miller's pick-6 vs Bama)

I think we might see Werner blitzing a bit more often, but I'm probably completely wrong.

Dammit I meant 8 lol.. you guys know what I mean.

Double Smith and commit the rest to pressure and stopping Harris.

Make Jones throw to WRs he's not used to throwing to.

It was pointed out by a poster here but they do a massive amount of horizontal passing to allow run after the catch. They do some down field but theres a reason Jones has a high completion percent and it's because they throw a ton of underneath stuff.

Not letting anything behind us seems to be working awfully well. Say what you want about this defense, but our guys rarely miss tackles... seriously impressed with the form tackling, which was on full display against Clemson. Fully committing to stopping Smith and Harris seems reasonable... they have other players but none that I'm nearly as worried about. And if those other guys make you pay, so be it. Missing Togiai and Ty Smith (as it appears) really hurts, but not insurmountable... the rest of the D is going to have to step it up big time though.

pfffft.

it’s not even the best offense in the SEC in last 2 years.

You fit in well here @Nutriaitch

I agree.

My thinking is... stopping Harris is priority 1 and 2nd is making Jones go through his progressions. As you say this defense is good vs the run and we tackle pretty well typically.

If we can limit Harris and Smith I'll take my chances seeing if Metchie can beat us.

We cannot allow Harris to go for 150 and Smith to go for 150.

I really think if we can keep Harris under 100 I like our odds.
