Game Thread CFP Semifinal: Ohio State vs. Clemson, Sat 12/31 @ 7p ET, ESPN

It doesn't matter what plays you call if the OL can't control the line of scrimmage and the QB has a hard time throwing the ball accurately and on time.

i honestly believe we threw the ball to the flats behind the line of scrimmage MORE TIMES tonight than we ran the ball. not up the middle, not hand offs just to weber, but more times than we actually ran the ball in any form. keep in mind im also pretty certain we lost yardage on every one of those passes. so... i just don't know how to defend that.

Disagree entirely. The kids showed up for the most part. The gameplan almost single-handily lost us this game. I've never seen a worse gameplan.
Game plan was horrible. Game plans have been horrible all year. Tonight the offense was a complete no-show. OL, Weber, Barrett, Durbin were awful. Even the usually reliable Samuel and Noah Brown dropped easy passes. Defense made some big plays, but also had plenty of breakdowns, which I suppose was to be expected when the offense does nothing and you're on the field all night long.

Bad coaching, bad execution, bad result.

Happy New Year everyone.

1) FIRST AND FOREMOST: Before this season started, I thought we would have 3 losses easy, so the fact that we were even in the CFP was gravy. Once we get a little distance from this humiliating curbstomping, I think we'll be able to look back on the season as a whole fondly.
2) However, it's clear that we did not belong in the CFP. I don't know what our offensive identity is, but it looked like we were trying to out-Clemson Clemson. Also, force-feeding the "only" playmaker on the team just plays into the opposing defense's strengths. Also, if we're supposed to be a tempo team, where is the tempo? I understand the youth, but if you go up-tempo and keep the playcalling simple, it should negate that youth somewhat. But if you're slowing things down and snapping with :01-:05 seconds left on the play clock each time, that let's the defense adjust to you and really gets rid of the entire reason for having a smaller playbook. Our defensive identity is established. We stay "basic" but throw a lot from that basic look. We need an identity on offense. We need to dictate the game to the defense, not the other way around. Also..."Clemsoning" is no longer a thing. Makes me sad.
3) Can we get one big game where the opposing punter doesn't have a 60+ boot that flips field position?
4) Special teams: need a kicker.
I am sorry but I have to disagree. We have more than one play maker, but we do not have coaches that game planned for them. We just saw a Mock Draft that had three of our receivers, Samuel but also Noah and Campbell, being first round draft picks. How many touches did Parris get? He is a play maker. We didn't get our guys the ball because our routes and play calling sucks. Defenders sit on our routes and I have bitched about it all year. It is not the WRs not getting separation as much as it is the play calling. Herbie mentioned how Clemson had studied us and were selling out on the short routes because at that point we had only throw the ball past 11 yards 4 fucking times. 4 fucking times. We threw it behind the line of scrimmage more than that.

We have players. Baugh is a play maker. Where was he? Wilson is a play maker. We have plenty. We do not have plenty of imaginative coaches.

Zach Smith has given us some solid ass performers - Evan Spencer, Curtis Samuel, Jalin Marshall, Mike Thomas, Devin Smith. Even Corey Smith, Dontre Wilson, and Gibson either contributed it were primed to (injuries/off field issues derailed them)...

Everyone else - fuck em

I don't know man, given the recruiting and talent level at that position group I just don't think developing 'solid' performers is enough.

I've felt that our receivers the past few years have been mostly relying on their natural talent, and given better coaching could play significantly better.

Curtis is an elite all-around FB player but I wouldn't call him an elite true WR yet. Devin Smith was not really developed by Smith. Dontre, Corey Smith, and Gibson have not performed anywhere close to what we were hoping, given their recruiting ranking. And wasn't Jalin the #1 overall athlete his recruiting year? Yet he went undrafted.

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree.

I think you may have misread my post, or perhaps I didn't convey my thoughts properly. I put only in quotes because I do not believe it; however, they were forcefeeding it to him instead of trying to distribute to all the other players you mentioned.

Just check out Mike Weber's stats... that alone should lose you your job if you're a coordinator. Had to be 4-6 carries at most? Haha what a joke... I've never been so embarrassed by a performance and least we lost badly. This way we will at least see change because if it was 24-17 as a final maybe Urban finds a way to spin this piece of shit performance.

I have ZERO DOUBT. ME, in my multiple drinks of captain morgan could call a better game then that. Without a fucking doubt. I at least would've ran the ball and gave us managable situations and I have no doubt I put up at least 7.

Don't fucking tell me that you all aren't thinking the exact same thing either. If someone gave me the option to take buckeye86 or Warriner I'd take 86 without fucking hesitation

2014, necessary change happened that brought it all together. Need that again.
Agree, though I believe necessary changeS need to be made this time around. As much as I've hated on Beck (more so for his QB coaching than playcalling), WR and OL coaching haven't exactly met expectations either.

Never imagined a Meyer coached team would be blanked on offense
