Game Thread CFP Semifinal: Ohio State vs. Clemson, Sat 12/31 @ 7p ET, ESPN

I have waited a bit to not post something stupid...the "don't say anything if you don't have anything nice to say" approach if you will. I have thought long and hard and after much reflection...I still don't really have anything nice to say. But I do have things to say in general, albeit much more censored than if I posted this around the time the clock ran out on Saturday night.

We have all of the talent in the God-given world. And we are bringing in the best recruiting class we have likely seen in the upcoming year. As much as I tried to insist to my friends that we were "just too young" and had "the most freshmen in football" after the game to make myself feel warm and fuzzy...that is a fucking bull[Mark May] excuse. Bama does it each and every year, they don't give a [Mark May]. They just win. Win. Win. Win. And more likely than not again...win. We had a ton of guys leave early last year and are going to have a ton of guys leave early again this year... just like Bama did and will this year again, same damn thing. Yet they do not miss a beat. If you clearly define the standard of where you wanna be, it is easy to define when you are not reaching it (see below). We won a title in '14? Cool. You know how many damn titles Bama has won recently...yeah...they probably can't even remember their favorite one in the last 5 years.

I get that they are the golden standard, but UFM made it very clear that the Bama standard is the one we are seeking to achieve. I will admit wholeheartedly that this was an amazing season by most standards, particularly giving our youth. But when your coach flat out says that is not the standard to be measured by and you recruit basically to the level that Bama does every year for the last 3-4 years, do you accept less? I don't think so. You admit that you are getting out-coached and fix it. We have the athletes and we did not put them in a position to win, simple. Sure, our players made mistakes in the game. But that was about the most piss-poor coaching preparation I have ever seen at Ohio State, only to be rivaled by getting out-coached by Urban himself in '07 against Florida. We got the holy piss beat out of us, up and down the field, without mercy, for the ENTIRE DAMN GAME. It was flat-out embarrassment and there is no way around it. I think it had very little to do with the players, but I could not even finish watching it and that is the only time since I have watched OSU football. I still wore my OSU gear up through tonight everywhere I went and love my school no matter what, and I will never waver on supporting them...but that was just unwatchable.

I do not give a damn where the blame should rest on the staff personally, I just want/trust Urban to fix it. General thoughts are that Warriner and Smith are great position coaches. Alford seems capable. Studrawa is too early too tell, although past reviews leave me uneasy and this year was rough given the talent. Everyone else on the offensive side...I hope they find gainful employment elsewhere (I know, not being cryptic). LJ Sr. is an absolute star and should get a raise. Fickell is unfortunately leaving our ranks but wish him the best, hope we find a great replacement. Schiano and Coombs are amazing, keep it going. Seems obvious to pinpoint the offense but how can you not? We have great talent coming in, sure...but I do not trust our current staff to do anything with it without a change. This offensive staff ruined a great team, I tend to think they could/would do the same with similarly great talent in the coming years as a whole.

But I will close with a positive but candid statement. There is every reason to believe that we will be a force to reckon with in the upcoming years. But we need to make changes on our staff to effectuate it imo. We are a very, very good team and we are really close...but there is a gap to close. I absolutely believe we will do it but not without some upgrades on offense.
Well said... I don't care what we have coming back next year we won't win our division next year if we don't make a coordinator move. As you say RB I will always wear our colors and Rep our university but I will hold no hope for the foreseeable future if we hang onto Warinner or Beck.

Everyone is giving Warriner a pass and I think it's bull.... if he's the oline coach fine but he shouldn't be calling any more plays.

Urban said it best "who wants to be around average?"

Well... time for you to take your own advice UFM.

Anyone know if Urban hired Tommy Elrod leading up to this game? [sarcasm font]

Well, first things first ... congrats to Clemson. Your team played well and deserved the victory. I've been trying to hard to dislike Dabo, but just can't find the right trigger. Just seems like a quality guy that has a program on the path to continued national prominence. Best of luck against Alabama ... go get the W.

Took a while to read thru this thread. Lots of good points and I share much of the anger and disappointment. Guess it's best to switch gears a bit.

We are a cursed breed my Buckeye brethren. Most every year 99% of the college football world would trade places with us ... and here we are bemoaning how bad we have it. What happened? How could this be? This player ... or that coach ... if only ... if only they were gone! If only they were gone ... we could remember fondly their greatness ... how much better it was when they were here. This damn Buckeyetis that I contracted years ago just won't go away. It's a terrible, terrible thing and it seems I'm destined to live with it ... year after year.

Shortly after the game I was fairly convinced that this was the most disgusting loss I could recall ... and I'm old enough to remember quite a bit ... and maybe forget a bit more. Then I sorta remembered how well our defense played until their energy and emotional tanks were empty too. Can't be too bad if 1/2 our team fought hard ... but they still gave up 31. 31?!?! WTF! Worst. Loss. Ever ... Ever. Damn Buckeyetis. I'm in its grip and ... I'm learning to live with it.

11-2 should make me a pretty happy fan. I'm not. Rebuilding year? Whatever. Youngest team in the power 5? Meaningless. 12 players drafted into the NFL from last year's team? So. Freaking. What. Damn Buckeyetis. I don't even want medicine. In fact, can you infect me with more?

Joe Thomas Barrett, OSU record holder in career TDs, career passing TDs, season total offense, season TDs, season passing TDs, single game TDs, single game passing TDs, 2 time captain ... other awards too numerous to list. Not. Good. Enough. Do we have someone, anyone, that can complete a meaningful pass? Guess that means we would need someone to catch the pass ... Bueller ... Bueller ... How about running with the ball ... WITH the ball ... In. Your. Hands. Damn Buckeyetis. A cure? I'm almost certain Buckeyetis IS the cure.

What I'm about to type will possibly end my life instantly via stroke or heart attack. Did our coaches even go to the Fiesta Bowl? Do you even football bro? Four. Freaking. Weeks. Damn Buckeyetis. I already miss football.

But, it's just football. No. It. Isn't. Not at Ohio State. I'm proud to be a small part of the most psychotic, passionate and nutty fan base on the planet. Sure we are too demanding ... expecting perfection from our team and coaching staff. They expect nothing less themselves and I think they understand our passion is a reflection of theirs. Do we invest tons of time, energy and money to be the "best mediocre fans in the land"? Hell no. We want to be the best. Anything short of that would be a disgrace to our team and staff. They are all in, all the time. What you see from us is only a small fraction of the commitment from them. When we are upset, they are devastated. We want excellence, they have dedicated their lives to it.

The season didn't end the way we wanted, but it was a hell of a fun ride. Thanks for a great season Buckeyes ... especially the players and staff.

Hmm... okay.

Yes Christian went — he went four fingers deep. He went a little too far. But when I'm just messing with somebody, poking them in the belly button or grabbing someone's butt, it's just to break up the seriousness of the game. The people who are freaking out about that have never played the game, or were just losers who didn't have friends when they played the game.

OHIO STATE'S THREE FIRST-ROUND WORTHY DEFENSIVE BACKS PROVIDE ANOTHER VALUABLE RECRUITING TOOL FOR URBAN MEYER
http://www.elevenwarriors.com/ohio-...ther-valuable-recruiting-tool-for-urban-meyer

OK, I'm still wondering. How did a team with 3 first round defensive backs let Clemson complete 24 of 37 passes for 265 yards, etc.?

After seeing Watson torch Alabama for 420 yards, 3 TDs and 0 INTs (compared to 265, 1, and 2 versus the offensively-challenged Buckeyes) I'm wondering how you're still wondering.
