Bike (0-4) Hart played 4 years. Beanie (3-0) Wells played 3, and was Pittman's back-up for the first of those. Going pro a year early, in the first round, doesn't really count against Beanie does it?

But Jax's argument is better. Let's go with that.

It's not a knock on a guy to play all four years.

Wells definitely had potential to pass hart in most outstanding rushing stats. With this being a "Big Ten All Decade Team" I could see someone giving hart the nod based on production and durability. Betting Beanie Wells would finish a season without injury is bad bet(a 1700 yard rushing season at that).(0-4) vs (3-0) means little to nothing to CBS. You seldom see an argument against Barry Sanders(G.O.A.T) just because his team didn't win.

Hart was effective, and consistent and played well for his abilities.Wells had a great career, and unlimited potential (minus durability).

Hart wasn't exactly ironman either. Missed half of '05 and was banged up through '07. You don't just get handed a nickname like Bike Hart. You have to earn it.

Well since I havent tossed in my opinion on the other RB spot. All I gotta say is that I would throw Maurice in there over Wells. No offense to Wells, but I mean if we are saying "Who are the best players at each position" and not "Who is the most accomplished and had more longevity" then I would go with Maurice all day. Maurice would have been special and in one year I think he proved a lot more to me on the field than Hart and Wells did.

But between Harts and Wells I look at it like this. I think when both are healthy (which is rare for both) I'd pick Wells everyday. He is a physical specimen and a special talent. When comparing careers I take Hart. He didnt beat tOSU, but I dont think the blame totally falls on him. He was great in the '06 game and had an amazing freshman year, and we should also note his great ball carrying skills. Both are great players. If I'm making a team I want Wells, and if I'm judging what they did in college I take Hart. He was productive, had a lot of heart, and didnt put his team in a bad position (turnovers).

That's a valid point. No argument there. However, keep in mind he also had over a 1000 career attempts(4th in Big Ten history),which could easily be twisted into another (that's why his stats are better) argument. The difference being Mike hart actually played the extra time, and produced. Wells is based more on a combination of potential/performance/durability.

There's only been 4 players in Big Ten history to rush for over 5000 yards(Dayne,Griffin,Thompson). Mike Hart is one of them. This is something CBS may have considered while compiling a list for an "all decade" Big Ten.

Er, as a Packers fan I have to disagree. I love Hawk, but he doesn't have good hips and instincts in pass coverage, and it shows. Teams go right at him, and he can't cover top-shelf NFL TEs.

That being said, I would draft him ten times over again.

as a Packers fan too I agree with this statement 100%

I sill can't believe how everyone forgot Gamble. He played both ways, Saved a lot of games with int's that Nugent won with FG'S . His junior year was his best stat year . He's by far the best corner/player

It's a little different in the NFL(which BTW, has nothing to do with the list). In college, Hawk was about as good as it gets. Consistently excellent.

Didn't he basically win the Penn State game in 2002? I recall both offenses doing nothing, and him having a pick 6. Maybe I'm having fuzzy replays though.

bingo. I still remeber that INT he had diving on the sidelines. Better catch then , any WR had that year for the bucks and he was a force against the run. He didnt blocked off/away during a game

he did stuff like that almost every game. In the 4th he either got an INT or deflection in the red zone too save the game. Then, smart Krenzel/clarett got us down field some how too give Nugent a chance. That says it all with the great d-line showing up every game

Gamble did score the only Buckeye TD on an INT return:

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ru8hNkdD6a0]YouTube - Chris Gamble Interception vs. Penn State[/ame]

One of the best plays of that season, with the Holy Buckeye Jenkins catch, and MoC's strip in the Fiesta, IMO.

IIRC, Gamble also had another game changing play against PSU, when Krenzel fumbled on a QB keeper near our offensive endzone. A PSU defender recovered and had a clear path, plus a huge head-start, for a 90+yd TD. Gamble chased him down from behind to make the tackle. That game was all Gamble.
