CBF40's look at '12 recruiting (BP's prediction thread)

Michigan fired RR late in the game early January. Hoke not only saved most of the class, but scrambled nicely and picked up many good players late in the process. If Fickell stays as coach, we should know by November. If they bring in someone else, this decision will be made well before 1/1/12. There will be no shortage of candidates. Plenty of time to put together a respectible class.

I agree 100% with this.

We see this:
-- the 2011 season goes well (we see a Drayton stamp on the offense and we pound people and the defense will be, as expected, fantastic)
-- there will definitely be clarity about the coaching situation
-- The NCAA decision is handed down (I suspect LESS than USC -- vacate some wins, lose maybe a handful of scholarships, no bowl in 2011)

READ THIS: http://www.the-ozone.net/football/2011/Tresselaffair/scandalscorecard.html (it's a good read about how little there ultimately is - I'm not saying that it's rosy)

I believe that opposing coaches are recruiting negatively (every one at OSU is crooked, they are going to get the death penalty, you'll never play in a bowl game, you'll never play on TV, etc). Heck, I would probably take that approach too. Honestly, when all the punishments are handed down, all those tactics will probably be ineffective.

We ARE a long way from NLOISD and frankly, after everything sorts itself out, I think we get a lot of the people to 'flip back' to liking OSU again (Kalis, Washington, Stanford, maybe Pittman, maybe McMullen).

Next On The Offensive Line?

Duane Long

Someone asked me if there was any way I could put together a list of offensive linemen in Ohio still out there for the Buckeyes to invest in like I did for the defensive line. I have put some thought into it. I have looked at more film.

I just don't see it.

Not unless the staff wants to do some poaching. With the defensive line there are still great looking kids out there who could be Buckeye-caliber kids. Not so with the offensive line. Even with the next level of kids - not counting sure things like Kyle Kalis, Kyle Dodson, Benny McGowan, Taylor Decker and Tony Matteo - I'm not sure I seen any who could be possibilities. We are finding them committed.

Continued...

A class that includes Kalis, Davidson and Kozan would be a great save and is definitely in the realm of possibility. A couple of offers would go a long way to making that happen. Stay tuned.

The lack of offers to offensive linemen while they seem to be flying for skill position players and D-backs is a bit unusual. I know that those guys can play on special teams, but the critical need for offensive linemen, this year especially is just ridiculous. I actually mailed a letter to Coach Fickell a couple of days ago if he was going to force a change in offensive linemen recruiting here at Ohio State. We'll see if there is a response.

I'm gonna say there won't be....

I'm puzzled about the lack of offers and movement on the OL front... I know usually we don't send out a ton of offers, but given the current state of the OL recruiting and depth you would think that a guy like Kozan would get an offer, no?

Is the staff feeling that confident in reeling in Goodman and pulling Kalis back into the fold that they aren't really targeting more OL? Or is it something else.

I too am baffled. Maybe we are going to try to play with no O-line in 2013?

Everyone is excited about Kozan because of camp reports, but does OSU really need another interior OL? Tackle is a major concern, but I don't see how he addresses that.

Browning wasn`t a tackle either but he played RT out of need. I dont know if he has better feet or is similar to Browning but at this point we have to bring in somebody to fill the tackle spots. Next season we are looking at Norwood, Hall and Brown(abused in the spring game and looks to be a guard).

How do you fill a roster next year with 2 tackles. This was the year we absolutely had to get a few good tackles.....ones that were ready to truly come in and compete. I just can`t imagine how we got here but we have been in this position off and on for awhile. We really need some serious competition on the online at tackle and it just hasnt been there in the last 10 years. Go Bucks

We've still got Shugarts for a year and Adams for half a year as well.

I wouldn't be shocked to see Jack Mewhort start taking some snaps at T. He was supposed to get a look there when he first got on campus, but I know he's been an interior player on our line. He's got the size to be a T, not sure about his feet.

But yeah, this is where not having Kalis and Dodson right now really stings. They BOTH would be looking at being in the 2-deep at T the moment they'd get on campus.
