I was excited about Kalis, and still hope he comes back. Also wanted Dodsen and McGowen; and I am frustrated by the slow offers to Davidson and Kozan. But, if we end up with two more solid O-Lineman, with at least one possible LT -- all will be fine.

Now OSU has 2 elite Srs. and Shugarts is a 2 1/2 year 4 star starter. He and Blankenship might have been elites based on HS ratings. Hall, Norwell, Mewhart, and Linsley may develop into NFL players. The jury is out on the 2011 class -- but any or all could develop into excellent linemen.

Personally I don't buy into the unique measureables and importance of the LT. A quick-footed, strong, large, explosive athlete is important at every line position. Of course it is beneficial for a right-handed QB to trust that his blind-side is protected.

He definetly has the size, strength, and explosiveness to be a T. He will definetly have to work on this foot speed and technique, though. Word on him was "project" months ago. Low risk, potential for high reward if we can develop and groom him.

The 2012 class so far

One of the things that is getting overlooked because of the bad news with the elite defensive lineman is the remarkable success otherwise. This is a great looking class so far.

It is going to take a headline pair of backs from anyone to do better than the Buckeyes pair of Warren Ball and Brionte Dunn. Notice I said pair. You are probably surprised to see me say that. I have felt for some time that Dunn would go elsewhere. Recent events have me believing Dunn will be a Buckeye. There have been a couple of dates recently where Dunn would have had prime opportunities to be someplace else but he showed up at Ohio State. He could have went to any other schools camp. It is a perfect opportunity to get to know a staff and take a look around. He came here. He could have just stayed home and nobody would have given it a second thought. I think he is trying to make a statement. I think he is trying to say that this is where he is going to be this time next year.

I am very excited for this 2012 class. The young men that are already verbal commits to the Buckeyes are awesome athletes. It's truly a testament to them and the staff. If they can snag some bigs (emphasis OTs) then the '12 class will be a great one.

Love the potential in the secondary, the Buckeyes have some elite athletes coming in. Perry is electric! Dunn and Ball... enough said. Get another Boren. Thomas and Frank are welcome Buckeyes. Enjoy the senior years! As Duane Long noted, there don't seem to be any tOSU reaches this year. They are all uber-talented student-athletes.

Looking ahead, I think we can all hope the staff secures something like Kozan, Mills, Davidson and continue to leave the door open to other currently committed o-linemen. Continue to look forward to the Buckeyes' recruitment of Washington and Stanford. And maybe a Pittman reconsideration...

I say all this because other than the few losses or the lone decommit, the young men that have committed aren't just okay, they are elite and a great foundation for a great class. I get the sense some of the BPers (not most of us, but some) may be taking these guys for granted. One of the better receiving TE's in the region. Frank Epitropoulis could be the best WR in the state, Stanford has something to say about that. Perry is a top-100 national prospect. Ball and Dunn are going to be the best 1-2 RB punch in the 2012 class. Unusual storm system in the recruiting world, sure. But this class will be filled with Scarlet and Grey.

Very well said. I think after August 14th the staff is going to really make some noise! Fick, Vrabel, and Drayton will really do some damage once they get going. Michigan has some momentum but all it will take is a 7-5 season and a beatdown by Ohio State for that momentum to change hands. We will be fine as long as we can get a few quality OT's in.

Good post.

Perry might have the most upside in the whole class.

None of the recent guys were positions of need really and not panic offers. As JWinslow showed in another thread, our hit rate with camp offers is unbelievable.

Go watch their videos and determine for yourself. Don't care where they are ranked. There are no reaches.

Always I think Odenigbo is still in play albeit we may be trailing. Vrabel should help with him and Washington and even Pittman hopefully.

Don't think Ifeadi would be a big loss though with Perry this year and hopefully Jaylon Smith next year. He's a stud though and would love to get him.

Once we start to see some stability and the NCAA ruling comes down in October or so there will be rewards.

Kids are convinced somehow Michigan is just as good of an option now so don't see any of them switching how times are right now.

I like Bolden a lot but don't see him switching. We have offered Roberts and he's a good, solid player. Reminds me of Spitler. Think he'll be a solid player like Spitler was and provide needed depth and step in when his time comes.

I'd put Vrabel on Odenigbo, Washington, and Pittman.

As I said before, I don't think the OSU recruiting class will come into clear focus until maybe Christmas. What the sanctions really are, and how the team finishes once Adams, Posey, and Herron return will be major factors. The best case scenario on a head coach is, Luke Fickell will get a multi-year deal.

Will any of the recruits who have committed elsewhere reconsider, who knows? Within the last three weeks, an OSU recruit who committed elsewhere was quoted as saying; "I refuse to be punished, for what someone else did". Could any of these guys end up with resentment that they made a major decision based on misinformation that had been represented as factual?
