CBF40's look at '12 recruiting (BP's prediction thread)

Right, and I think KingLeon was referring to more than just the upcoming season. Think 3 or 4 years down the road. Hoke is doing a great job bringing in recruits so far, and a few more years of this and he'll have some serious talent on the field. Meanwhile, if we get hit hard, we may have a few weak classes in a row. Add those two up, and it could very well mean the W column swings back to Michigan.

He's recruiting no better than Rich Rod to this point.

At this early stage I would say Hoke is recruiting a little better than RichRod but it's not like this first recruiting class is going to drastically impact the overall talent of the UM football program the minute they step foot on campus. I see a couple of early impact recruits but more than anything Hoke is getting steady numbers early on and has created some momentum if nothing else. Now they can sit back and wait on a couple of big fish, especially in Ohio, like Pittman, Wormley, Washington, etc.

OSU still has the talent to pound on Michigan this year. The only thing that will make a difference is whether or not Hoke and his staff can scheme towards whatever OSU's tendencies end up being this fall. My way too early guess is that they will try to make Braxton Miller beat them. It's better than trying to scheme against OSU's RBs and/or Posey.

I disagree he is bringing in a few guys from Ohio with Ohio State offers. This class is looking to be one of their best in 5 years. He is recruiting quite well. Urban even said that Madison is one of the best recruiters around. They could very well land quite a few more guys with tOSU offers. Go Bucks

Have to agree, their LB, and DB class are already very good, the lines appear to be shaping up as well.

The lines will be the strength if this class.

Hoke realizes that being stout up front is what wins. Not smaller guys with Big East offers.

Jordan Diamond will be a part of their class more than likely and the DL should get another 4* or 2.

I would not be surprised if Michigan grabs another Top 10 type OT after Diamond too

If there is a year that we have a slight down year, I don't mind it being this year. There is a good amount of talent in Ohio, yes, but it's going to get spread around. We just came off an excellent class last year and are not hurting on anything besides tackle. Which I think we will remedy with Kalis and Dodson anyway. Our class will be good this year, maybe just not as good as we originally thought. Ohio state is going to be a young team starting in 2012 anyway, with most of the players in place already.

Losing Dodson makes me sick. Especially at the position I thought we needed most in this class. I see we have 0 OL offers to uncommited players from Ohio. Is there anyone on the horizon? Do we have a realistic shot at getting some of the OOS tackles?

Voltz and Dodson together...great haul so far for the Badgers.

Diamond looks like a Michigan lean.

Webb, Banner, Simmons, Humphries and Alexander are going to be near impossible to land.

There is a debate as to whether Goodman has an offer or not...even if he does that's an uphill battle.

Pirsig, like other OOS kids, is going to be a tough pull until things settle down.

I would offer Davidson in a heartbeat...but that's just me.

Hopefully some kids like Tyler Orlosky, Terry Davis, Tony Matteo, Pat Elflein, Troy Watson, etc. come to camp to be evaluated.

While I am not a sky is falling person for recruiting, the one issue that has perpetually bothered me is offensive line recruiting. We haven't had a dominant OL-unit in many moons. Dodson, McGowan et al. would have helped.

To counter that, our D-Line recruiting really doesn't skip a beat by losing out on Pittman. We brought in an amazing haul in 2011, you can't expect that 4 or 5 more elite-kids are going to come in for 2012 with/without the program's turmoil. We can still get Washington, Schutt, Odenigbo etc. I certainly want all elite DL prospects we can get, but I don't see the DLine missing much if Pittman sticks with Michigan State.

The damn OLine...

I don't know, a worse case scenario for OSU and the instate 2012 DE class just got a lot more possible today than it was yesterday. That would be

Washington- U of M
Pittman- MSU
Odenigbo- ND or Stanford
Wormley- U of M
McMullen- Nebraska
Strobel- U of M
Brown- U of M

It remains to be seen just how likely that scenario is, but its looking more and more likely as time goes on. Washington is the key guy here because he is the best of group imo, would bring Stanford with him, and was as close to a Buckeye lock as possible at one point not to far in the past. That being said OSU got Hayes and Miller last year, and would still be able to take Latroy Lewis if all that were to come to pass.

A "the sky is not falling" recruiting update.

TheBuckeyeBattleCry.com
Recruiting Update: 6/21/11

The biggest news in this recruiting update is the commitment of Ohio defensive lineman Se'Von Pittman to Michigan State, continuing the theme of doom and gloom for 2012.

Pittman was one of the top players in Ohio with offers from football royalty across the country and a big time target for the Buckeyes.

First, let me say congratulations to Mark Dantonio and Michigan State on a great pick-up. There are obviously a lot worse places a player can choose to go, and Pittman will be joining what is shaping up to be a very impressive group of young defenders for Dantonio and the Spartans.

Second, it is becoming clear that the coaching uncertainty in Columbus is having a negative impact on recruiting (huge surprise there, right?). Luke Fickell is the head coach for the 2011 season and a helluva recruiter, but there is only so much he can do in an incredibly difficult situation. Whether it be the uncertainty of possible NCAA sanctions or the inability to guarantee players who their coach will be in 2012 and beyond, there are some serious hurdles to overcome.

With that said, there is no reason to panic- not yet at least.

continued...

My honest opinion is; we are going to be just fine. I consider myself to be a superb evaluator of high school talent. Last year Braxton Miller was 2 years ahead of Terrell Pryor, and Troy Smith. Give him three games, and tell me I'm wrong.

When Adams, Posey, and Herron return we will be as good as anyone in the country. After watching the Big 33 game, Devin Smith will replace #12 very nicely. On November 26th, I honestly expect us to leave the Big House half full, and booing.

Before we had any idea what was brewing with the NCAA, UF told us to expect; hell to be unleashed. God blessed us with that guy. We were told to expect worse treatment than USC, expect a three year post season ban.

Since then, UF has been given reasons to feel, the sanctions will be far less than what he was first lead to believe. I'm hoping we actually receive the sanctions on August 12 to get them out of the way. Winning, and having the fear of the unknown out of the way are two huge steps.

All we really NEED in this class are three stud offensive linemen. If you look at the depth chart for DT, DE, and and OLB we are stacked for at least two years, maybe three. As unappealing as the depth chart looks to Strobel, Pittman, and Wormley, it looks equally as great to a perspective offensive lineman.

I think we'll be just fine, and once we find out the sanctions and everything we'll be fine. This class may not turn out to be the best on paper, but they will be kids that are true Buckeyes at heart!! If we keep our current commits and add the rest of the class in I'll be happy with that considering everything tOSU has been going through. Just finish strong recruiting and have a good season. Then look forward to that '13 class which will be full of stud players.
