CBF40's Look at '10 recruiting

I am REALLY hoping that we get Corey Brown as a WR in this class. That would be a HUGE coup. We've done fairly well recently in PA recruiting, what with Pryor, Sweat and Bell. I hope for that to continue this year with Hagan and Brown, though I know that pulling Brown would be difficult with PSU.

Thought we were out of the running with Ware?? Isn't he down to LSU and North Carolina?

That was what he said before he came to camp talk to the staff and had a good visit...

At this point it is coming down to whether or not he can play baseball as well as football...Thus the two schools he has listed as being his top two...

Good stuff! Didn't realize this. Thanks CB40!

Having a kid that wants to play another sport has never hurt us before, so this seems to be good news for Ware. Heck, Tressel actually encourages pursuing multiple sports, as long as they can handle it academically. Devon Torrence is just one of many that are doing it currently/have done it before.

Ok here is an update. I will go back to my pipedream class I posted on 7/9 as there has been quite a bit of action since then.

We have received committments from Baldwin and Hagan from the list. James Louis answers the question of WR I believe.

- Been getting positive news on Williams, James, and Hankins...

- Spencer Ware gave a verbal to LSU...That is very dissapointing, but we heard the two factors that came into play here...Not really a whole lot we could do about them. Garrison Smith and Kacy Rodgers also verballed elsewhere.

QB - Taylor Grahm
RB - Rod Smith
WR - Tyrone Williams
WR - James Louis
TE - Color me clueless here...
OL - Andrew Norwell
OL - Matt James/Brandon Linder/Seantrel Henderson/Arie Kouandjio (2 of these) or go after someone like Dennis/Donnal late
DE - David Durham
DE - J.T. Moore
DT - Darryl Baldwin
DT - Lanken Tomlison/Jonathan Hankins/Terry Talbott
LB - Jamel Turner
LB - Scott McVey
LB - Jordan Hicks
LB - Jeff Luc
DB - Lamrcus Joyner
DB - Christain Bryant
DB - Chad Hagan
K - Drew Basil

That would be a class of 20. There are still some pipedreams on there like Heanderson and Luc.

I would say Bryant is in.

I like where we sit with Williams, James, Hankins (as long as grades and everything else are ok with Williams and Hankins)

Can't complain about Joyner, Hicks, Kouandjio, Linder at this point.

Guys like Brown, Shaw, Shaw are left off as I am not sure where we stand. I like Brown and I think they would find room for him, but with Louis in and Williams as the probable second WR, unless they want to go with him as a RB/WR type.

I think guys like Hankins and Williams could be in before the seaosn starts, but then the USC game will be a big time weekend for us with guys like Luc, Joyner, Linder, etc...

Didn't Tomlinson commit to Duke?

CB40 is just testing you to see if you are paying attention.

I know this is your pipe dream list, but I doubt Luc is a part of this list.

You might want to add Skyler Schofner to you O-Lineman combo list. Just a hunch. Also don't forget about the punter from Wisconsin, Hagerup. Oh and don't count out Corey Brown.

Good post. I would make only a few minor changes. One, I think we will only take 1 more LB (hopefully Hicks). Now obviously, if Luc wants to come here, we will take him, but that seems unlikely, so I think with the great class last year and next year it may be Hicks or no one.

I think that extra scholarship is more likely to go to another RB with the reports that Hyde may never make it to OSU. Seems like a good year to try to get another speed back (Corey Brown? One of the FL guys?).

where have you seen those reports? everything I have read says that he is going to take the ACT again at the next available time and may be enrolled before the end of the school year

My thoughts:
- James is UC bound imo
- Luc is certainly a pipedream...I don't think his visit is token but I think the odds are heavily against him leaving state. If he does, it's to USC imo.
- No way we turn Corey Brown down if he wants to come here...if he is healthy, I believe he is going to finish out as a 5 star. On that note, sounds positive on our chances here and I think with Mack Brown to Florida, we are sitting real pretty.
- My gut feeling is we land Joyner
- If I had to take a wild guess at the other two OL, it would be Linder and Henderson. I think I'm stretching on Henderson, but the next most likely imo is Shoefner
- No idea on TE recruiting...my personal guess is we are passing this year. At this point, I am OK with that. We can sell playing time to Koyack and I'd much rather have him over any target that is left right now. I think we will be fine with DeLillo, Stoney, and Fragel for now.
- Picking up Louis is huge imo. We went head to head against SEC powers to get him and he is a game changer. We needed a legit playmaker on offense other than Rod Smith and we got it here...if we add Corey Brown, it would be gravy.
- As pertains to Hagan, I would update my list with him being ranked #11 of our 11 commits, and at a 2 star rating. To be perfectly honest, I am shocked he had an offer...I like his measurables if they are legit but the film and production left a lot to be desired. I am hoping he has a good senior year.
- Hicks is a complete wildcard to me. Nobody knows whether it will be Texas or OSU at this point, not even Hicks. With Ware to LSU, my morbid Ohio prophecy could become fulfilled if James and Hicks opt elsewhere, so hopefully we can land at least one somehow.
- It seems to me that a good number of commits still need validation for a higher ranking and a top 20 class nationally. Graham has been great on the combine circuit and has been causing excitement, but he still needs a good senior year after being injured last year. Baldwin had a dismal junior year but has potential...still, he needs to be dominant this year to get a 4 star ranking. Basil will be watched more closely this year because we know little about him. Hagan's film has left some scratching their heads, so many will be looking for a better senior film. Tyrone Williams (likely to commit) looks amazing on film but was hurt part of last year, so I believe he still has something to prove. Corey Brown (somewhat likely) was hurt most of last year, so he needs a good senior year to move up. Durham is solid but I wouldn't mind seeing some added explosion to his senior year. McVey can't do much apparently to help his rating, because I can't see topping a 5.5 sack state title game against a legit OL. Turner is a 5 star but he needs to keep his nose clean or else he could be gone. All in all, I say this class is a bit of a mystery in terms of where we will stack up nationally, and in what we actually have in the fold.
