CBF40'S Look at '09 recruiting

crazybuckfan40;1098198; said:
As for QB's I would like to take one, but there are 3 guys in Ohio right now that could be big timers in 10'...So maybe if they get a feel on one of those they hold off on 09', but Pryor is the type of guy that could only end up being here 3 years if the situation were to present itself and he is as good as advertised when he gets here, so I would like to take a good one in 09' if the situation presents itself...

As for thoughts on why we land guys...I think that most of it is educated guesses on what we have heard and know...

It isn't really liking a guy more than the other...It is more who we think is the best chance to become buckeyes...

My man, CBF40, Nice breakdown! I'd really love to hear you and everybody else particularly breakdown and compare the RB situation sometime.

Thanks to this site, (more butt-kissing :)), I just heard of and saw the available Rivals film on Lamar Miller. Looks good, but how would you stack him against Bud Golden and the rest of the remaining crop that has emerged so far, etc., based on our chances of landing him, lets say.

With the sad and untimely departure of my boy, Devoe, I see some urgency there, don't you?

Yeah I see an urgency there, but it is very early in that process to get a good feel because no one has offers yet...

I like Golden, Toussaint as the top 2 guys in state and I think there is a solid chance that both could get offers...I have heard Toussaint might need a little work in the classroom, and he could also be a camp type offer...I think Golden is just a matter of time...Really like his film...There are couple other instate guys to keep an eye on, but I think most would be camp type guys...

As far as OOS guys I think we are going to try and sell some big timers like we tried with Bryce Brown on PT especially if the staff feels Beanie will be gone after this year, because that only leave Boom and Saine, and possibly Thomas at the RB spot...

Some guys to keep an eye on would be Cierre Wood, lamarr Miller, and Carlos Hyde...Those are the big names that I believe we have expressed some interest in...

I would love to see us go after Wood...top player in the country imo. Gotta agree with cb40 though, I see us going after an OOS stud hard. I think we take Golden for sure and I would hate to see Toussaint left out of this class. I think taking 3 wouldn't be crazy if we get both Toussaint and Golden, then another stud like Wood or Miller pulls a surprise.

Just wanted to comment on WR recruiting...

I would put the list of guys we are going after hard right now as...

Marlon Brown (long shot at best, probably won't be done for a long time)
James Jackson (no idea on our chances, but just got an offer, and we will push hard for this one it seems like)
James Green (Transferred from Krop high school in FL...Played with Sabino and Howard, Said the staff wanted to see film before offering)

That is three big time OOS WR that we are after right now...I could see us takin 3 if we could 2 of those guys to go along with Fields...

Instate we have...

Perez Ashford - Wade's guy...
Bryan Underwood - CBF40's guy...
Pat White - maybe the next best in state...Could he be a better CB?

- I would say that is where we stand at the moment...There will probably be a couple more names pop up, especially if the staff feels we aren't going to get any of the guys on the first list and none of the guys on the second list are worthy of an offer...

Think the number is 2 or 3 and believe we will get there...

Thank you my man!!! This verification definitely helps. Sorry it took me so long to respond to your gracious offering per my solicitations, but lets just say I was very preoccupied kissing butt on some 'scarlet' carpets the last few days.

I had thought that I wouldn't bust your chops about specifics anymore, hence putting you on the spot, and wait a few months until Rivals and Scout start doing it for us, but you have come through...I suspected as much. Thanks again.

One more question: How would you rate the OOS'ers, in order?

Wow, 3 RB's. I thought only USC did that! I'd love to see that, too.

I think RB recruiting will be interesting to follow for a number of reasons.

First, it is the one position where we can make a great case that a recruit will be in a great position to play a good amount as a freshman. So, it is the one position where I could see us landing a national caliber recruit who we might not get in another year if the depth chart didn't look so favorable.

Second, I think there is a chance that we may take a look at some different kinds of backs. These recruits are likely to be playing in a spread offense with TP as the QB. What type of back would be most effective in that style of offense?

Excellent post! This is the kind of out-of-the-box-speculation that makes all this recruiting jargon so wonderful. I'm giving you a little green thing, tlinc! Looks like I should have said, little brown thing.

I figured it was time for an update with some OOS guys joining the list of prospects...

QB's
- Will know more here after Pryor makes his decision...So for now no names...

RB's - I am still sticking with two here...

Carlos Hyde - He will be our big back for the class...Received and offer and said it was his dream to play for the buckeyes...

Cierre Wood- Kid can pick his college, and that is why I think it is a long shot, but we shall see after the staff makes a push for him...

Bud Golden - There was talk that there was an offer, but not anymore...Still think it is a high possibility...Really like his film and hope that we can pull him in...

Larry Caper - Said if we offer he will visit. He is getting interest from most of the big names in the country.

Fitzgerald Toussaint - He is my favorite player in state at RB. He has a ton of speed to burn and if he is really at 180 or so and could get up to about 190 then with his film I have seen and his speed I have to think there is a very solid chance for an offer here.

Jordan Hall - teammate of Pryor...Not sure how high the interest is here and if there will be an offer extended...

FB's - I would say with us brining in Martin this year that 1 should be enough, and unless they see Homan as a LB or DE, then we would be set. But if that is the case we might take a look at others.

Adam Homan - Got an early offer and chose to follow his brother to tOSU. Kid is a hard nosed player and will fit in nicely here.

WR's - See us taking 3 here...

James Green - teammate of Howard and Sabino at Krop high school, he has nice measurable for a WR at 6'3'' 195...Really like this offer and I think that we are frontrunner...

Chris Fields - Received his offer and committed on the spot...

James Jackson - Received an offer...The staff really likes this one, and he has speed to burn...Not sure on leaders as of yet, but I think we are up there...

Corey Brown - Has some early interest in us, but I don't look for him to leave the state of PA. If the other guys with offers choose to go else where then we might look to Brown, but right now he is down the list a little bit...

Marlon Brown - Big time WR, probably not going to happen, but worth the offer...

Kraig Appleton - Most believe that he is a lean to Illinois...

Duron Carter - Cris Carter's son so you have to feel that he is going to get a long look, his sophomore film was fairly impressive for a sophomore. If he were to get an offer I would say it would be at camp, and you would have to think we would be the favorite if we were to offer.

Desmar Jackson - If he decides to play football he could be a highly rated WR, didn't play last year but there is talk that he might play this year.

TE's - Still think we need one...Just not a lot of names out there yet...

Dion Sims - Might go the basketball route, but he is a top 100 player in football at TE?He showed some early interest in us.

Edward Hazelett - He has great size for a TE at 6'9'', and has some interest in us?Not sure if he might get an early offer or not, but I wouldn't mind seeing one.

OL - Say we take 3 for sure and maybe 4...

Jack Mewhort - Early offer, early commit...

Marcus Hall - Kid is a bookend tackle after he gets some time in a program. He has received the early offer and you have to think we are the odds on favorite to land him.

Chris Watt - Kid is a stud OL and already received an offer. He was nasty on film...Will be here on a visit the 9th...

Xavier Nixon - Probably the best olineman in the country...Not sure on how much interest there is yet, but one that would be a huge get...

Eric Shrive - Top olineman in PA...We extended an offer, just not sure how much interest there is...Most are calling him to Notre Dame...

Harris, Freeman, Klatt, Linsey, Spiker, Harris, McShane are just some names of guys that could earn offers at camp...

DE's - I would be all for 3 if it is the right 3...

Melvin Fellows - Verbally committed to the Illini already, but we are not going to go down with out fighting. Kid is a stud we have extended an offer, but don't look for a final word for a while as he has said he is going to take all 5 visits.

Tank Carradine - A kid that is about to blow up...Great film...I think that it is only a matter of time before he receives his offer...

Craig Drummond - He is going to be tough to get out Illinois, but kid is a stud, and is worth going all out for.

Jonathon Newsome - From the Ville' so you have to like our chances especially since he has an early offer...

DT's - Would also love to land 3 here if they are the right guys...

Corey Adams - Still no offer for sure...Not sure if they are trying to gauge his interest for sure or maybe check out some more film...

Johnny Simon - The best player in the state and we have already got him locked up and hopefully he wants to do some recruiting to make this class really good.

Adam Bellamy - An Ohio kid that I feel is next in line in Ohio to receive an offer...Really like his size and quickness...

Trae Tiller - Not a whole lot out there and plays at a smaller school, but he had huge numbers, probably a kid they will want to see at camp, but one to keep an eye on for sure.

LB's - probably going to see 3 in this class...1 OOS stud, and possibly 2...

Storm Klein - Already committed and he is a hard nosed kid with a lot of ability. Probably will be better suited for the Mike.

Jordan Whiting - Top 100 kid that was really infatuated with our program and committed early.

Petey Smith - Top 100 kid with an offer in hand already. The staff is very interested in him.

Anthony Fletcher - Same school as Sabino and Howard, said last year during their recruitment that if he was to get an offer he would commit to us. Should be up for camp, and could earn an offer then...

Dorian Bell - Another top 100 kid that has an offer. He is a top 15 nationally type player and would be a huge coup, but he is going to have everyone after him.

Chris Snook - He is one that if we don't get any of the 3 listed above, we might go after him...

DB's - I still say 2 and 2 or maybe 1 more on top of that...

Jamie Wood - Offer, then commit...

Darrell Givens - Another out of the state of Maryland. He is friends with Lamarr Thomas, and I think that we have a solid chance here.

CJ Barnett - A lock down corner from Ohio. I think there is a solid chance that this one doesn't last until summer.

Ricardo Dixon - Another kid from florida that has interest in us...Really like his film...Will be up for the spring game...

DJ Hunter - I really like him, and think that after Bellamy he could be next in line for an offer for a guy from Ohio...Great Speed and size combo...

Dale Peterman - Another Ohio kid that might get a look for an offer, probably at camp. Measured in at 5'10'' 163 or so, not exactly what we have been looking for in terms of size for corners...

Patrick White - Another Ohio kid that has said he is going to try and use camp as a way to get an offer.

Justin Turner - Received an offer from Michigan and Illinois...I still feel it is just a matter of time...

Derell Mason - Where does he play???

EJ Banks - Big time player out of PA...Cousin of Joey Galloway so you have to like our chances...

Brandon McGee - The interest is there from both sides and is a very good athlete...

Denicos Allen - Where does he play???

QB - Not sure
RB - Carlos Hyde
RB - Fitzgerald Toussaint/Bud Golden
FB - Adam Homan
WR - Chris Fields
WR - James Green
WR - James Jackson
TE - Still not sure
OL - Jack Mewhort
OL - Chris Watt
OL - Marcus Hall
DE - Jonathon Newsome
DE - Melvin Fellows
DE - Tank Carradine
DT - John Simon
DT - Cory Adams
DT - Adam Bellamy
LB - Storm Klein
LB - Jordan Whiting
LB - Dorian Bell
LB - Anthony Fletcher
CB - Darell Givens
CB - CJ Barnet
S - EJ Banks
S - Jamie Wood
Ath - Brandon McGee

That would be a great class right there...With 25 guys, not counting a QB...

Going out on a limb on that one. :p

Great list CB40. I have to say a big thank you to you and the BPRT for these '09 threads. After the monster class of '08, it's hard to immediately get revved up about the next class (how you guys do that and how the coaching staffs of these schools do it is amazing...), but having you guys to spur it on really helps.

Things are really taking shape with the offers we are sending out...I know it is optimistic, but with the way we always seem to have a very high hit rate on the offers we do send out and it seems that the florida guys we are sending offers too all say we are their dream school, or they have some solid connections to Columbus...

Just since the last update 5 days ago we have sent out 6 offers I believe to Turner, Hunter, Linsley, McGee, Jenkins, Carter, and KirkPatrick...And I still feel that it is just a matter of time for Carradine and think Bellamy might have to wait till camp but still feel good about his chances...

Just wanted to make a couple comments on different position recruiting...

RB's

Offer to Carlos Hyde
Next in line for offers IMO are Cierre Wood, Jamaal Berry, and Bud Golden
And I still love Toussaint...

- Think we are looking to take Hyde and a shiftier back like any of the 4 I have listed...Could we possibly take 3?? Well why not, but I think that is overkill, but lots of solid prospects on this list...

WR's

Commit from Chris Fields...
Offers to James Jackson, Duron Carter, James Green

I think with the number of offers we have out there that 3 is the number they are looking to take...Once again I will say that it is my optimism, but I feel goo about all 3 of the guys with offers...Green is a teammate of Sabino and has had good things to say, Carter is the son of Cris Carter and James Jackson has had good things to say...

OL

Commit from Jack Mewhort
Offers to Chris Watt, Corey Linsley, Marcus Hall, Eric Shrive, and Xavier Nixon

I think 4 is the number...Unless we get one of the last two on the list...I feel confident about the Watt (GG big help here), Linsley (just a matter of time), and Hall (Glenville)

DL

Commit from John Simon
Offers to Corey Adams, Melvin Fellows, Jonathon Newsome, and Craig Drummond

- I think 4-5 is the number...I think Carradine is next in line for an offer here with a good test score, and maybe Bellamy if he impresses at camp, or if the staff does get a good feel from Adams...

I know some are very confident on Fellows, still a long way to go there IMO, but wouldn't surprise me to go either way...I would say Newsome is all but done, just a matter of time like Hall...Not quite as clear here as we need to do a little hard sell to some of these kids compared to other positions, but I still think we are in good position with the guys on the list and still have Carradine and Bellamy waiting on offers, and you would have to feel good about those two being from Ohio...

LB's

Commits from Storm Klein and Jordan Whiting
offers to Dorian Bell and Jelani Jenkins.
Next in line IMO would be Quanthony Fletcher...

I am still thinking 3...

Really think we will let the Bell situation play out...We are loaded at lb and 2 would be enough, but there are still good prospects out there...

DB's

Commits from CJ Barnett and Jamie Wood
offers to Justin Turner, EJ Banks, Darrell Givens, DJ Hunter, Brandon McGee, Dre Kirkpatrick...

I am just going to stick with these guys right now as they are the ones with offers...

Honestly if all 8 of these guys wanted to come I would take them all...Kirkpatrick is a 0 percent chance...

So that leaves 2 guys in and 5 guys that I feel we have a good chance with every one and Givens, McGee, and Banks are all out of state guys that you wait on...

I think Givens is going to be a tough one due to his feelings toward Miami, but we have a good shot as well with thomas being here...Banks (family ties), and McGee (seems to be enamored with the program and Tress, has offers from everyone)...

Then you have Turner and Hunter in state and are in good shape with both of them...

Either way it is March and other than TE and QB we basically have the big board layed out for the entire recruiting season...Of course there are more national guys that will pop up and maybe some sleepers from the state or somewhere else, but I think that we have a very good idea what this class will look like already...
