CBF40'S Look at '09 recruiting

The scholarship breakdown magic number is only 21. If you bank on Beanie going early, that's 22. Are you speculating on transfers or just the natural attrition rate? Either way, 25 seems like a stretch. Plus, doesn't Tress usually try to save one or two schollies for upper class walk-ons?
I'm banking on Beanie going early..

Not to mention I expect at least someone to transfer out at WR with all of the talent there.

FvSports has a top 100 list out, so I figured I would throw it in here...

4. Devon Kennard
9. Dre KirkPatrick
13. Marlon Brown
15. Dorian Bell
18. John Simon
20. Xavier Nixon
21. Justin Turner
34. Corey Adams
45. Eric Shrive
52. Marcus Hall
62. Craig Drummond
66. Tank Carradine
68. Petey Smith
71. Kraig Appleton
73. CJ Barnett
76. Melvin Fellows
86. Storm Klein
87. Dion Sims
92. Darrel Givens
95. Jelani Jenkins

Nice to see Carradine getting a little love...Overall not a bad list...They dropped Mewhort off from the top 100 where they had him last and Whiting was in the 100-150 range which isn't on this list...

Just for a little comparison USC has #1, 7, 17, 27, 40, 42, 47, 50, 69 all committed...

They always do good, but this could be their best one yet...

I don't think it is out of the question for us to get 8 or so guys off this list...

Great write up 40.

I don't think the number will be a problem. It is easy to say we are in on 3-4 guys at a particular position - but that can change quickly once kids start to commit. Not many kids want to be the 5th or 6th DB in a single recruiting class. (Although it still amazes me that kids can look at our LB depth and maintain the interest they do.)

I agree, we continue to be able to pull in LB's like crazy...We recruited 7 DB's 2 years ago...Torrence got moved to WR, but I don't think 6 is out of the question with the nickel package that we play alot of and special teams...

I really do believe that some might have to get on ship quick or their spot will be taken, or like you said they will feel like they are the 5th or 6th guy recruited...I think we will see over half the class filled by the time the season rolls around, and have a good idea of the other half as well...

One other interesting thing is how many we are going to pull from Florida...I can see us pulling Hyde, Green, McGee, Fletcher and maybe one or two more, to give us 5 or 6 to go along with quite a few players from Ohio...

Now that sleepy time is over this would be a more realistic start to this class, in my eyes (this is far from a finished class...just a starting outline):

QB - not sure...too early to tell
RB - Carlos Hyde
RB - Fitzgerald Toussaint/Jordan Hall/Jaamal Berry
FB - Adam Homan
WR - Chris Fields
WR - James Green
TE - still too early
OL - Chris Watt
OL - Marcus Hall
OL - Corey Linsley
OL - Jack Mewhort
DE - Tank Carradine
DE - Jonathan Newsome
DT - John Simon
DT - Adam Bellamy
LB - Jordan Whiting
LB - Storm Klein
LB - Quan Fletcher
CB - C.J. Barnett
CB - D.J. Hunter
S - Jamie Wood
S - Brandon McGee

That's 20 so far, with a couple being longshots (McGee has offers from everyone...Fletcher/Bellamy/Carradine/2nd RB need offers before they can commit)...and leaves a lot of guys with offers off the list:

Duron Carter - Michigan?
Xavier Nixon - who knows
Eric Shrive - ND?
James Jackson - no idea...maybe stays in-state?
Corey Adams - USC or UCLA? no idea really
Melvin Fellows - I'll be the one to say I think he sticks with his Illinois commitment
Craig Drummond - Illinois
Jelani Jenkins - PSU? VT? who knows
Dorian Bell - FSU? UM?
Justin Turner - again, I'll be the one to say he heads North
EJ Banks - maybe the most likely, along with Jackson, to be a Buckeye
Darrell Givens - Miami? Illinois? PSU? Maryland?
Dre Kirkpatrick - Alabama? Florida? USC?

Here is my updated list...traded Muldoon for Bellamy at DT, Bell for Fletcher at LB and Jackson for Green at WR.

QB - not sure...probably no one
RB - Carlos Hyde (offer)
RB - Jaamal Berry
FB - Adam Homan
FB - Zach Boren (offer)
WR - Chris Fields
WR - James Jackson (offer)
OL - Chris Watt (offer)
OL - Marcus Hall (offer)
OL - Corey Linsley (offer)
OL - Jack Mewhort
DE - Tank Carradine
DE - Jonathan Newsome (offer)
DT - John Simon
DT - Pat Muldoon (offer)
LB - Jordan Whiting
LB - Storm Klein
LB - Dorian Bell (offer)
CB - C.J. Barnett
CB - D.J. Hunter (offer)
CB - Jordan Hall (offer)
S - Jamie Wood
S - Brandon McGee (offer)
ATH - EJ Banks (offer)

Duron Carter - Michigan?
Xavier Nixon - who knows
Eric Shrive - ND? Illinois?
James Green - staff is still evaluating a lot of WR SPEED prospects
Corey Adams - USC or UCLA? no idea really
Melvin Fellows - I'll be the one to say I think he sticks with his Illinois commitment
Craig Drummond - Illinois
Jelani Jenkins - PSU? VT? who knows
Quan Fletcher - grades?
[strike]Justin Turner[/strike] - again, I'll be the one to say he heads North (sadly, I was right about this one)
Darrell Givens - Miami? Illinois? PSU? Maryland?
Dre Kirkpatrick - Alabama? Florida? USC?

The only thing I am going to change on your list is putting Fellows back on the side with the good guys, and taking Carradine off until he receives an offer...Also what about Vlad the Impaler, I hope we can find room for him...

And I am not ready to decide between and Green and Jackson at the WR position yet...The staff likes Jackson better I think tho...

I am going to throw a name out at DB that could pop up....

Florida Safety Jonathan Scott... brother of current Buckeye CB James Scott. He is 6'3" 190 with big time offers from Auburn, Florida State and LSU.

Heard he wants to stay close to home.

Probably big three or a Georgia school.

Not according to some people that would know. I would bet he is saying that because we aren't showing MUCH interest right now... but that could all change as recruiting unravels.
