CBF40'S Look at '09 recruiting

My perspective I think we get these guys:

RB-Golden, Toussaint. OOS guys like Hyde might pop up, but these are the top 2 in Ohio
FB-Homan
WR-Fields plus 1 or 2 more.
DE-Newsome, Carradine, plus 1 more.
DT-Adams, Simon
LB-Klein, Whiting, Studlien
CB-Barnett, Hunter
S-Turner, Wood
OL-Hall, Mewhort, Watt, plus 1 more.

Not too sure who the QB and TE we add are gonna be. Names will come out of the woodwork as they always do as the year goes on. It would be nice to add an athlete like Allen, Mason, Ferrell, or Chris Freeman too. Freeman intrigues me...big guy with top offers, but he goes to Trotwood which is not a good sign for an OSU offer in the future for some reason.

TE-1-2 We really need a playmaker here. But in state i really don't see one. We need to look out of state in my opinion here. Anthony Talbert of cincinnati winton woods and Brian Wozniak of Loveland fit what we do at the TE position but neither really stretches the feild.

OT-1-2 I love Marcus Hall he has such a great frame. Not a huge need but you can never have enough linemen. Other names Sam Longo and Chris Freeman. Freeman is HUGE 6'9'' and 315 lbs.

OG-1- I think we will only get one guard in this class and i would love to have chris watt. Another possibility is Ricky harris. However i don't think the staff is interested and he doesn't want to wait for an offer. Eventually he ends up with the zookster at illinois.

C-1- Jack Mewhort love his size 6-5 285 lbs and he can move (Committed). Nate Klatt is another one who could see an offer but i think we stick with Mewhort.

DE-1-2 Melvin fellows we will get him from illinois got to beleive in tressel. I also like Craig drommond out of illinois. And i really like Pat Muldoon out of Cincinnati St. Xavier even though i doubt he gets an offer. The kid just knows how to play football period.

DT-1-2 maybe I love john simon (Verbal) what an animal thats all i can say. Another guy we have a shot with out of state is corey adams out of Arizona. From what ive heard he has interest in us but i don't know alot about him has great size though.

OLB-1-2- I would love to get Dorien Bell but i absolutely love Will STUDlien. And we have offered newsome who could also play DE. We have such great depth at this position. So if we dont get Bell or we don't offer Studlien which we currently havn't we will be fine.

MLB-3-4 Already have Storm, homan, and Whiting i think were fine with those studs. Other possibilities if they get offered are are Julius ferrel out youngstown liberty and mike marrow out of new albany. Neither will get an offer unless they have a strong camp performance in my opinion.

CB-2-4 We have CJ barnett (verbal) and i love justin turner who could also play safety and i like jamie wood also at this position who is being recruited at safety as well. I just think he has corner coverage skills but he hits like a safety. Darrel givens is another kid i love out of Maryland. He's friends with 08 recruit flash thomas. But he can pick any school in america he wants to attend. Read he's a Miami (Fl) fan and they have already offered.

S-2-3 I like jamie woods here as well he's such a versatile player he could play wr/s/cb for us. Also like EJ Banks out of Montour in Pennsylvania and a sleeper is dj hunter out of Middletown. He's got great speed and is a dangerous return man.:oh::io:

It's so tough to project now but I think the number is 25 correct?:
QB: Devontae Payne (just a hunch but he is a tough read...I owuld love Newton if we have a chance)
RB: Bud Golden
RB: Fitzgerald Toussaint (Hall looks intriguing as well and Brown seems to have legit interest)
FB: Adam Homan
WR: Chris Fields
WR: Not sure (I like Ashford and I want to see us pursue Appleton and Brown, though I agree they are longshots as of now)
TE: Dion Simms (bold prediction)
OL: Jack Mewhort
OL: Marcus Hall
OL: Chris Watt
OL: Chris Freeman
DE: Tank Carridine
DE: Melvin Fellows
DE/LB: Jonathan Newsome
DT: Johnny Simon
DT: Corey Adams
LB: Storm Klein
LB: Jordan Whiting
LB: Dorian Bell
LB: Will Studlien
CB: CJ Barnett
CB: Darrell Givens
S: Justin Turner
S: EJ Banks
ATH: Jamie Wood

-As Wad said, a ton of names could pop up. Things are much less black and white than last year at this point.

In my mind anyhow, too early for me to speculate. It seems there's a new face or 2 everyday worthy of a BCS conference offer popping up here from The Buckeye State on the board. Maybe it's just ScoutingOhio's ability to showcase everybody's talent, but this seems to be a special year in the state and I love seeing these guys in action.

I really like seeing the in-staters getting the offers this year. I think it shows how much pride and trust Tressel has in our boys all around Ohio (heck, even in Painesville!). That said though, I love seeing how when recruiting out-of-state, Tressel's going after the best of the best like we did last year.

The one problem area I'm seeing a lack of recruiting thus far is at TE. We need at least 1 and perferably 2. Actually, I was really surprised we didn't get 2 last year, seeing as we had a bumper crop of them in-state, but that is no fault of our coaches because they went after them hard and early last year.

Real good stuff, guys. I really appreciate the time and effort that you guys have put in to get this in an easy read and reference format; GREAT STUFF, more than I can say! I am quoting or I choose to respond to your post, RB07OSU, but this applies to all of you. I would ask only for one more thing; the why, for each one, thats all. One sentence would do--and lets keep track.

I know that in some cases you would consider some of these guys long shots, so thats a factor...but I'd really like to know why some of you would like one RB over another, for instance, and what factors go into that choice, thats all. More detail, just a little bit more.

Just wish I could write out a check for your opinions rather than just ask, but....please??

If we get Pryor... I am not so sure we need a QB in '09. We will have TP, Henton and Bauserman with plenty of eligibility left.

Ideally, for me:

2008
QB: Terrelle Pryor

2009
2 RB: (I will wait until more offers are given out and names pop up)
1 FB: Adam Homan
3 WR: Chris Fields, James Green, Corey Brown
2 TE: (absolutely NO idea here)
4/5 OL: Jack Mewhort, Marcus Hall, Chris Watt, Nate Klatt, Chris Freeman
4/5 DL: John Simon, Melvin Fellows, Tank Carridine, Corey Adams, Jon Newsome (LEO)
3/4 LB: Jordan Whiting, Storm Klein, Dorian Bell
4/5 DB: C.J. Barnett, Justin Turner, Jamie Wood, E.J. Banks

Sans RBs and TEs, right now before more names pop up, this would be an ideal class for me.

I disagree, we need a qb either way. What happens if we get Pryor and it causes a moC effect on our QB situation... bauserman had talked about leaving if pryor comes, henton is staying but will he still if he loses his job? I am far from saying he will, just saying that is a what if scenario id like us to prepare for.

I am not overly impressing for one thing with the guys that have expressed interest in us so far. I am sure names will pop up, but we should have our pick of the litter in '10 at QB if none in '09. Of course, we also should be saying that about RB this year since none in '08 (well, I guess Lamaar Thomas could be considered here, but I am not so sure he stays at RB). I am going to take a wait and see approach before I officially say "I don't want a QB" until I see who else is out there. If I HAD to choose one guy that I have seen mutual interest from... Kevin Newsome. I like Morgan Newton too, and he probably is more "gettable" than Newsome... for now.

Yeah, I think we definitely need a QB in this class. If not we will only have 2 scholarship QBs on the roster (Henton and Pryor) along with Bauserman. You also have to think that 3 and done is a very real possibility for Pryor. That means he could be jumping to the NFL in 2010 at the same time Henton will be graduating and it would be nice to have a guy who has been in the program for 2 years to replace them.

As for QB's I would like to take one, but there are 3 guys in Ohio right now that could be big timers in 10'...So maybe if they get a feel on one of those they hold off on 09', but Pryor is the type of guy that could only end up being here 3 years if the situation were to present itself and he is as good as advertised when he gets here, so I would like to take a good one in 09' if the situation presents itself...

As for thoughts on why we land guys...I think that most of it is educated guesses on what we have heard and know...

It isn't really liking a guy more than the other...It is more who we think is the best chance to become buckeyes...

Everyone's early lists are loaded with Ohio recruits. Almost every day now the BPRT seems to be coming up with a new OOS stud who has interest in tOSU. Don't get me wrong I'm loving the early lists but I'll bet they really, and I mean really change by the time camp is over. This year could set the record for most bitching about instate recruits being left out.

With the way QB's get injured these days, you can never have too many talented quarterbacks.

This really isn't directed towards you but I've been noticing people saying you can never have too many talented QB's, RB's, WR's, TE's, OL, DE's, DT's, LB's, and DB's...according to the 85 scholarship limit, you can  I hope we go after Newsome and Newton but I think Payne is the most realistic, though he still has to earn his offer and I'm not sure what to think of Payne yet.
