CBF40'S Look at '09 recruiting

Secondly, why not take Saddler who is more explosive looking than Hall and you get Hale as a package?

Hmmm...how do I argue against Saddler being a good Big Ten-type recruit?

Oh--wait, here.

I don't believe that Saddler was offered by Illinois.

Yes, that's right. Someone who didn't decide on a school until December 2007, but Zook actually didn't offer. Scout listed 11 RB's offered by Illinois last year (OSU offered 3, BTW), and Saddler isn't one of them.

I'm wondering if Hall's or Adam's decision impacts Martinez getting an offer or not. We are all fairly confident that Hall and Berry make 26, and the number is likely 27. Say we get those two and have the choice between Vlad, Sims, Hageman, or Martinez...who do you want (that is if we miss Adams) ?

Hageman or Martinez. My real preference is save a spot for next year. As hot as we are right now, there are bound to be major blue chip players across the country that will be interested in us.

I take one of the TE's if they want to come...

Agreed, preferably Hageman. Between DeLillo and Fragel, there is no field stretcher, rather than blockers with good hands (which is ok of course). However, I hope that wouldn't come at the expense of losing Adams, who I really want in this class. Martinez would be a great get as well and I think he is the best player of that group, just not at a position of need if Hall comes.

Figured it was time for a little update...Not a whole lot going on and we basically have all the spots filled, besides a couple that we might try to fit in...I figure right now we still have a fighters chance on 8 guys...

Those 8 being Marcus Hall, Corey Adams, Ra'Sheade Hageman, Dion Sims, Frankie Telfort, Marlon Brown, Kevin Newsome, and William Campbell.

Marcus Hall - I would say that he is the guy we have the best shot at...He would be a great addition, a 5 star RT prospect from Glenville...There is always talk that he could go somewhere else, but I still am leaning towards him coming here...Probably no decision until january...

Corey Adams - If he lived in Ohio or the Midwest there would be no questions here...The problem is he lives in Arizona...It is a battle between us, ASU, and USC...We couldn't be in any better position than we are, but will that allow us to land his services, at a position that we could really benefit from landing another big time talent...This one will really take off once he actually takes a visit here...Probably an all-star game time decision...

Ra'Shaede Hageman - Would love to land on or either he or Sims as a field stretcher at TE...This one is a battle between us and the main compeition being the homestate school Minnesota, who he said is the slight leader due to proximity, but once again another that will take off once he visits...Probably a late decision after his visits...

Dion Sims - He has said that he would like to play bball and football, has also said bball is what he wants to do...We would be the favorites for football tho I think...Not sure on a timetable...

Frankie Telfort - He would be a great addition to the class...He would fit the star position that we see Hines and Moeller playing this year, and seems to be a normal starting position anymore with all the nickel we play...He and Berry's friendship could help us greatly, but will he come North? We will find out more after a visit...

Marlon Brown - He would also be a great addition...a big physical receiver that could eventually fill the field stretching TE type role, once he gets to college and gets in the weight room...It is us with SEC teams vying for his services...There has been chatter about us being the favorites, but he is one that gets excited about every school so it is hard to really get a read...I still think he ends up at UT or some SEC school, but we are gettting a visit and in the game...Expect a decision around all-star game time...

Kevin Newsome/William Campbell - I grouped these two together because they are both Michigan decommits, that would be great to steal, but I don't see it happening...i think Newsome has the better chance to not end up at Michigan, but don't see him coming here, but we have enquired about him...Campbell would be a great haul, but he is just looking to take visits...

Off the list I say we land Hall, and maybe one other of the other guys, but would most like to land Adams on top of Hall...

Here is my updated class, once again assuming we get to 28 (as I am hearing we could):

QB - none...not enough spots
RB - Jaamal Berry
RB - Carlos Hyde
RB/WR - Jordan Hall
FB - Adam Homan (like others, not rulling out DL or LB)
FB - Zach Boren
WR - Duron Carter
WR - Chris Fields
WR - James Jackson
TE - Reid Fragel
OL - Marcus Hall
OL - Jack Mewhort
OL - Corey Linsley
OL - Chris Watt (I am still leaning towards Watt being in this class, but I would gladly take John Prior)
DT- John Simon
DT - Pat Muldoon or Corey Adams or Tyron Ezell (my gut is Muldoon goes to ND and the staff turns all their attend to Adams and Ezell...first come, first serve)
DT - Adam Bellamy
DE - Melvin Fellows (Illinois insiders still think he visits Champaign)
DE - Jonathan Newsome
LB - Storm Klein
LB - Jordan Whiting
LB - Dorian Bell
CB - CJ Barnett
CB - Dominic Clarke (I think he could be a great nickel back early on, much like Chekwa)
S - Jamie Wood
S - Vlad Emilien
S - Bradley McDougald
ATH - Corey Brown
ATH - Justin Green

BOLD = offered
BOLD & RED = committed

No McGee and no 2nd TE...I know the staff seems adamant about taking 2 TEs but I just don't see how it can work...

Here are my revisions:

QB - Tajh Boyd
RB - Jaamal Berry
RB - Carlos Hyde
RB/WR - Jordan Hall
FB - Adam Homan (like others, not rulling out DL or LB)
FB - Zach Boren
WR - Duron Carter
WR - Chris Fields
WR - James Jackson
WR/TE - Marlon Brown
TE - Reid Fragel
OL - Marcus Hall
OL - Jack Mewhort
OL - Corey Linsley
OL - Sam Longo
DT- John Simon
DT - Adam Bellamy
DE - Melvin Fellows
DE - Jonathan Newsome
LB - Storm Klein
LB - Jordan Whiting
LB - Dorian Bell
CB - CJ Barnett
CB - Dominic Clarke
S - Jamie Wood
ATH - Corey Brown
ATH - Justin Green

Still in the running:

QB - Kevin Newsome
OL - Morgan Moses
TE - Dion Sims
DT - Corey Adams
DB - Jayron Hosley
DB - Mike Edwards

BOLD = offered
BOLD & RED = committed

Of that group I would say Hosley and Sims are the most likely...I used to think we get Adams but I don't like what I've been hearding lately. I know ASU insiders are fairly confident and for good reason, IMO. The staff still might be interested in another TE if they don't feel like Brown could fufill that WR/TE/H-back role. I don't think Moses has the grades and I think Newsome ends up at VT. If they can snag Hosley then I think Edwards gets left out. I don't think there is any real legitimate mutual interest in Boucher at this point...I know the staff has been in touch but I think Boyd is the real QB target in this class.
