CBF40'S Look at '09 recruiting

Corner is thin but safety is not, at least not on numbers.

I don't think either spot is particularly thin but I'd be more concerned about safety than corner and I think the coaches are too. Barnett and McGee are the only true corners we're after. Brown, Banks, and Clarke are tweeners. McDougald, Emilien, and Wood are safeties. Coleman and Russell are known commodities but they are juniors this year. After them, there are a lot of unknowns. Clifford has all the potential in the world but he keeps screwing up. O'Neal and Patterson are gone after this year for sure. That leaves Oliver, Pentello, Johnson, and Domicone(unless I'm forgetting someone), all of which are unknowns.

I have a theory that the staff maybe slowplaying all the DB prospects to find out whether Washington, Russell, Coleman are leaving first

The number of offers seems inconsistent with that theory. I don't see any evidence that it is JT who is asking these kids not to pull the trigger. The Clarke offer following the Givens decommit would indicate just the opposite.

Not that it affects your point, but Gant will also be back.

Likewise, the corner position also has a few relative unknowns. Chekwa has shown promise but can he step into a lockdown corner role? Can Amos stay healthy and pick up where he left off? Given the past off the field problems, will Washington stay another year after this year?

Corners are more valuable. Barnett is a good start. Hunter would be another good addition but obviously something is not working out there. Banks would be huge. Brown and Green are a couple of other good looking prospects. I think the urgency here is corner, and I think they'd wait on a corner, but not on a safety.

Thats true. However, McDougald and Green are saying that they want to take visits...like everyone else, I have no clue what the strategy is.

Considering all the recruits with offers who are "slow playing" it, I'm inclined to think that the staff isn't throwing out this supposed "first come first serve" strategy that's being implied here and elsewhere. There are a number of players who know they want to be Buckeyes but are making 100% sure by looking around. If the staff were taking the first ones to commit you would have thought they would have been letting the recruits know constantly. I just believe that the staff is more inclined to wait on kids than what is being projected on message boards.

For example, McDougle, Brown, Muldoon would absolutely not be looking around if the staff was telling them they're going to take the first ones to commit. They'd all be Buckeyes by now.

Normally, I would agree Emu, but not this year. There are just too many offers out there to conclude that the staff is not trying to get the foundation of this class in place asap. If Muldoon is some sort of silent verbal, then why the later offers to guys like Ezell, Lolata, and the DE from MD who's name escapes me. These offers would have to be in some way Conditional in that scenario, otherwise why make them at all. Same with all the db's. If things continue to break in the Bucks favor, it isn't inconcievable that we could have 22-23 committed players by this time in July. If we are going to oversign, I would think it would be out of the pool of high-profile national recruits that we are in on. Would that pool include guys like Muldoon, Banks, Green, or the TE's? Don't Know.

Has nothing to do with Muldoon, IMO. They most likely project at two different positions along the DL.

I guess I was looking at it more along the lines of Power being their position. I always thought Muldoon had the potential to move down to DT as well, if need be. Then I threw you replacing Muldoon with Bellamy on your lists and I figured they were related. Guess that wasn't your thinking though.

The staff is really zoning in on the D-line to be sure. I think there is still room for one more DE/DT. I think they are done at CB unless McGee comes knocking. They could use another SS. They will take Hall and Watt, but Watt better move quickly. Hall they will wait on. They will take Newsome because of the Glenville Pipeline. Hyde or Berry or both at RB. Don't know what spots will be left after that? Interesting to see. It sure has been fun so far!

i have a list of all the players that i would love to see in the S&G
Marcus Hall OT
Chris Watt OG
Adam Bellamy OG
Jaamal Berry RB
Carlos Hyde RB
Duron Carter WR
Shaq Evans WR or Kraig Appleton WR
Corey Adams DT
Pat Muldoon DE
Jonathan Newsone DE
Tank Carradine DE
Brandon McGee CB
DJ Hunter CB
Vlad Emilien S
if we added these players with the ones we have it brings our total too 30 commits ( this won't work with a limit of 25 ) . So who do you think is not going to be in s&g .

Probable = Hall, Watt, Bellamy, Berry, Hyde, Carter, Newsome, Emilien
Possible = Adams, Muldoon, McGee
Improbable = Evans, Appleton, Hunter, Carradine

LJB, do you think Hyde and Berry, with Jordan already in the fold? Seems like a lot of RBs to me. I realize they're calling Hyde a FB... I guess I see his size and speed and think RB not FB, not to say he won't grow, and I know there is talk about Jordan seeing more time at wideout than RB.

1. Hall is not being recruited as a RB. He is being recruited as a RB/WR hybrid, much like Flash last year.

2. The staff wants two TRUE RB's this year. Hyde is not being looked at as a FB, he is being recruited as the power back, while Berry is being recruited as the speed back.
