CBF40'S Look at '09 recruiting

LJB, do you think Hyde and Berry, with Jordan already in the fold? Seems like a lot of RBs to me. I realize they're calling Hyde a FB... I guess I see his size and speed and think RB not FB, not to say he won't grow, and I know there is talk about Jordan seeing more time at wideout than RB.
Hyde and Berry are both saying the right things right now ... could change, of course, but as of today, it's Ohio State vs. the field for each of those guys. BTW, both are RB's in Ohio State's offense.

Hall is more of a "scat back" type (891 yards rushing, 704 yards receiving).

So from my understanding of the situation

Berry is the next Mo Wells,
Hyde is the next Beanie Wells,
and Hall is the next Brandon Saine against LSU (or Lamaar Thomas but he hasn't been on the field yet)

at least in terms of how they will be utilized.

It's interesting to see Tressel's system being fully implemented, as he clearly has a vision of what he wants his teams to be comprised of in terms of roles that he wants players to fill, and only now are we getting to see what he wants, rather than him working with what he had.

Berry reminds me more of Pittman v2.0(not a knock on AP as I feel he was highly underrated)

Berry is a feature back. He has better size, speed, elusiveness, and power than Mo Wells. Potential star at the college level. The best OSU comparison that I can think of is Michael Wiley.

If Hyde is the next Beanie Wells, then we've got ourselves the steal of the century. Think more along the lines of Branden Joe vs. Kansas State. If Berry and Hyde both sign with OSU, then Hyde will be the change of pace to Berry.

Hall and Lamaar Thomas seem like similar players - "wing back" types who will be utilized primarily in the passing game, occasionally in the running game.

Hyde and Berry can be Ringer and Caulcrick with higher ceilings.

"Power" recruiting just got really interesting...how I think it shakes out:
OL: Jack Mewhort
OL: Cory Linsley
OL: Marcus Hall
OL: Chris Watt
DE: Melvin Fellows
DE: Pat Muldoon
DT: John Simon
DT: Adam Bellamy
DT: Corey Adams

- I think Newsome gets left out waiting...he's not a can't miss guy imo. Besides, I think he is a "Big Speed" type guy. I'm not so sure Newsome is a DE prospect, rather than a LB prospect. Maybe LEO. Watt and Adams will be tough to get but I think we end up with both. If not, I say we only take 3 OL, and add another DL.

Tressel does not oversign.

Start a Vbet and we will see...

As for the power list RB, I am with you on the oline...

For D-line I think Muldoon is out, Newsome will be in 99% sure of that, and I think if Ezell or Adams wants to come they find room...Adams is a no-brainer to us, and I think Ezell is a no brainer to the staff...They love his potential at DE...

Oversigning has a negative stigma associated to it for one reason only, the SEC. I see nothing wrong with oversigning @ OSU because our kids are going to actually make it through admissions (knock on wood). Whereas the SEC schools oversign because they absolutely know that they are going to lose 3-4 kids EACH year...If you can fit everyone under the 85 man limit, i see nothing wrong with oversigning. Oversigning only means that you will have to live with smaller classes a few years down the road.

An update...Will give the full update with writeups after camp as I feel we will see a couple kids join the fray next weekend or early in the next week after camp...

Right now we have

Hall
Fields
Jackson
Fragel
Homan
Boren
Linsley
Mewhort
Bellamy
Simon
Fellows
Klein
Bell
Whiting
Wood
Barnett
Clarke

To that I would add...

RB - Berry (camp?)
RB - Hyde (June 17th? during visit?)
WR - Carter (camp?)
OL - Hall (Late, but in)
OL - Watt (things looking brighter, not sure on time, but over summer)
DE - Newsome(late, but in)
DB - Brown (camp?)
DB - Vlad (camp?)
DB - McGee (late, but still feel good)

That brings us to 26...Don't see right now taking anyone on the board off...I still see 3 Db's, 4OL, 2 RB's, 1 more DE...There has been nothing at all to refute any of that...All updates that have mentioned numbers or info have had those numbers...Right now I look for the guys above to fill those spots...

Then is when it gets dicey...I think there is a solid shot at one of the 3 of the following things happening...Adams and or Boyd/Debose you for sure hold a spot for...

TE Hageman or Sims (These two have offers, and in the last update, it said we will hold a spot for Hageman, have to feel the same would go for Sims)

4th WR (As I have stated, no way you turn down Boyd or Debose...I am sure the staff will really turn up the heat as they could be about the only 2 that they really have to do much recruiting on as they will be the only ones not done by the end of summer...Will know more if they visit...)

DL Adams or Ezell (Staff loves Ezell, everyone loves Adams, if one of them wants to jump on board I think they take them...)

And last but not least...Two guys that you would consider locks under normal circumstances might be on the outside looking in...Green and McDougald...If McGee goes elsewhere then maybe one of them jumps on board...
