CB Chimdi Chekwa (Official Thread)

I thought one of the bright spots from the USC game was the play by our corners. I thought the play by Malcolm Jenkins and Checkwa was excellent. Checkwa's interception was probably the top highlight I saw on our side all day. I look forward to seeing how our already impressive secondary will look the rest of the way especially when adding DWash back into the mix.

Start him over Chekwi. Lane has been making huge plays. He deserves to start because he is just better. :nerd:

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH
Purdue had just given up a blocked punt for a touchdown Saturday in Ohio Stadium, and now the Boilermakers needed to answer. They faced third-and-3 -- a piece of cake for quarterback Matt Painter and the Boilermakers, who pioneered the quick-pass, spread offense in the Big Ten.
Painter took a three-step drop and fired toward Aaron Valentin.
Ohio State cornerback Chimdi Chekwa flew forward, reached around Valentin and batted the pass away with his right hand, somehow without hooking Valentin with his left arm. Purdue punted.
It was a contortionist move, and just one of many fine plays Chekwa and his fellow Buckeyes cornerbacks made in a 16-3 victory.

I am not a doctor, just someone who has suffered several common sports injuries.

The way he went down is textbook AC separation. That's not a dislocated shoulder, it's a separation of the collar bone from the rest of the shoulder assembly. It usually causes varying degrees of torn ligaments in that area. Going down with your arm extended typically causes the more minor of the injuries.

If this is the case, he'll be out for at least two weeks.

I certainly hope its just a 'stinger'.

In his presser today, Tress said that Chim looked good today and right now he is fine. I guess we will find out for sure on Thursday but it sounds promising.

If he were to miss, D. Wash would get all the snaps and someone would need to step up in the dime packages.

OSU Chimdi Chekwa

Cornerback Chimdi Chekwa has practiced and is ready to play Saturday, Ohio State coach Jim Tressel said this afternoon.
"We're excited about that because, honestly, on Saturday I wouldn't have said that we're going to have him," Tressel said.
Chekwa left Saturday's game against Michigan State with a shoulder injury.
