Cavs 09-10 Season (official thread)

Hell yeah, I got tickets to the Hawks Cavs tomorrow... can't wait to see a great game... it should be a good test for the Cavs.

They weren't last season, but it might be a better matchup this year. I think the Cavs are learning how to matchup against the smaller running teams. Have fun at the game.

after the cavs ran them out of the playoffs last year, the hawks wanted this one bad, and cleveland put on a clinic in the 4th quarter, despite actually playing rather poorly in the 1st half overall.

delonte west coming back to form makes this team so much better it's not even funny.

Cavs starting to click overall and were about a month away from getting Powe... Oh boy... Going to be exciting.

Very true... and this is all the more impressive with the schedule they have played. It had included lots of road games and lots of games against the best teams in the league. When Powe comes back, the issue will be who the odd man out will be. This team has such crazy depth its hard to take minutes away from many of these guys.

I think these two games are Atlanta's season. If the Cavs can come out tonight, get the lead, and keep above 10 the whole game I think it will break the Hawks.
I'm not sure if it was someone here or an article I read, but they had it right. It's great to be able to score a lot of points, but if you can't play D you won't win it all. Shots will dry up, but it's the team that can defend that will be able to weather the drought and stay in the game. The Cavs go cold more than I would like, but when they do they usually don't give up a huge run on the other end. They were far from playing a good offensive game last night and still won easy. I do love seeing all of the "It just isn't Lebron and 4 stiffs anymore" articles.
After the regular season last year the two teams I didn't want the Cavs to play were the Magic and the Lakers because I knew that they both were bad matchups. The only team I feel remotely like that about this year are the Celtics although the Cavs have grown a lot since the season opener so I'm sure the next two games with Boston will be a little different. I'm not saying winning the Finals will be a cakewalk, but I don't look at a team and think that the Cavs will need to play the perfect series to beat them. The only other team I would like to avoid would be the Raptors in the first round. They have some matchup problems, but not enough that I would worry about losing a 7 game series.

P.S.- I still think Joe Johnson would be the perfect SG for the Cavs if he ever wants to play for a winner.

Sorry I have a few more thoughts. How good is Z shooting that corner 3? They can have a killer lineup at the end of the game when you put Parker and Z in both corners with Mo and West on the wings. Lebron drives and kicks to the open guy for an easy 3. If they don't double Lebron it's usually an easy dunk.
Shaq was right when he said that he and Z are the best center in the league. The only single player that I would trade them for would be Howard and I don't know if that would give you that much more production. With Z at center you don't have to worry about hack-a-Shaq as long as Shaq doesn't mind being on the bench for chunks at the end of the game. I just hope his desire to win another title is greater than any quest for personal stats that he might have. At his age I would rather play 20-25 good minutes a game and stay fresh than to be extended to 30-35 minutes a game and get worn down by March. The same goes for Z. I think he has been playing too many minutes the past couple years, which has weakened him in the playoffs. In the playoffs I bet they both will be around 30-35 minutes against the Magic or Lakers so they just need to stay fresh until then.

So theoretically if you can get Jamison for Z and another expiring to help the wizards dump money do you do it?

It would be hard to get rid of Z, but I'd have to think about it. IMO Andy is also cabable of taking the backup center minutes, but I think this would hurt against the Lakers where the Cavs can currently out big them. I don't know if Jamison would be able to defend either of the Lakers 7 footers. For the Cavs this is the most important year, but they also need to make moves that position them for the next few years as well. If the Wizards would make that deal and then cut Z I would do it. I just don't see the Wizards doing the Cavs any favors.
