Cavs 09-10 Season (official thread)

Don't act like every team in sports don't have "fairweather" fans...

:shake:

Not saying every team doesn't, but the Lakers are 23-5 and still playing great ball and look to be championship contenders (well, before tonight they did ) Yet I dont see Cavs fans throwing water bottles and foam fingers onto the floor. Especially on Christmas, that's just a truly poor showing.

But the Lakers were getting boo'd only down by 11, I mean, seriously?

As a great example for LA fans in general, can you tell me if USC sold out their last 3 home games of the year? - sure looked like some empty seats when I was watching. Their team goes 8-4 and you'd think they just lost to Duke.

In fairness, Boston fans are pretty rabid. The Celts were always pretty high up in attendance even when they sucked. I don't like 'em, but I'm not sure "fair weather fans" is accurate in that case.

And maybe your right about the Celts, they do have a deep history and fanbase. I was pointing out all the "celtic" fans coming out of the woodwork after the Big 3 trade though - and don't tell me you didnt notice either.

Absolutely, but us Cavs fans aren't exactly in a position to say anything about that. How many Cavs shirts did you see before LBJ? Success breeds bandwagon fans. Now, booing your 23-5 team and throwing shit on the court on Christmas Day when your team is getting it's ass handed to it is a whole other story. LA fans are notoriously fickle. If they're not getting their way, they boo...like spoiled children. New York too.

I won't lie, when we drafted LBJ tons of fans came with that - however when you hear somebody say there a Cleveland fan of any type, its identified with monumental collapse, anguish and general suffering, well known by many types of fans across the US. So most people who say there a Cleveland fan of anything is typically quite legit. I was raised with Cleveland sports, as was my entire family and friends. It means a great deal to everybody across this state and thousands of others outside Ohio, I just don't see that type of devotion from the 'other' bases I've named. Then again thats not to say they dont have their true die-hards, but I doubt anywhere near the level that we do.

This taken from an ESPN board about the Lakers "fans" (especially tonight)

"85% of them are rich Jews who rarely watch basketball. The fact that Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie attend some games says it all. And that's a fact."

As wrong as the first part of this sentence is, the man (or woman) has a point. Lakers games when presented to me just appear to be a large spot to hang out and spy for celebrities. The only famous people who might be real fans appear to be Nicholson and Spike Lee.

I think today's game showed why the Cavs need Shaq and Z on the roster. Against the Lakers and Magic there are times when the team is better with both of them on the floor. I think the biggest test for the Cavs right now is that they need to figure out how to beat the Celtics. The Celts have the type of matchups that killed the Cavs with the Magic last year. I hope that they Celts really start to show their age by the end of the season. The Cavs have a couple key older players as well, but they don't count on them to play a ton of minutes like the Celts. I see the rotations changing greatly depending on the team that the Cavs are facing. Against a team like the Celts Shaq and Z will see reduced minutes with the team running smaller lineups. Powe could be a critical player against the Celts in the playoffs.

Loved watching the world champs and fans get so frustrated that all hell just about broke loose.

If the Cav's can play like this in the playoffs, it's gonna be hard for anyone to stop them.

Until they run into Boston.

I'm disappointed in Derek Fisher. Looks to me like he's more of a punk these days than Ron Artest. That crap he pulled at the end of the game against the Cavs just reinforced it for me. I think his reputation benefits from the way he's handled his daughter's unfortunate condition. I admire him for that, but that shouldn't be allowed to overshadow some of the shit he's been pulling on the court in recent memory.

Not to mention the incesant flopping. He's been doing that for years though...

I don't get how the talking heads are still spewing that the Shaq trade isn't working out for the Cavs. The main reason that the Cavs brought in Shaq was to help against the 2 teams that they couldn't beat last year Orlando and LA. They have dominated both of those teams on the road this season. It's almost like the talking heads were expecting Shaq to come into Cleveland looking 10 years younger and since he doesn't they think it isn't working. The Cavs gave up Pavs, and Ben and replaced them with Shaq, the #2 3 pt shooter in the NBA, and an athletic forward that can defend any 2 or 3 and some 4's. The Cavs have a bench full of players that would be seeing minutes for almost every other team, but can't get anything more than scrap minutes.
I know that one win over the Lakers doesn't mean that the Cavs would beat them in a series, but the only team that really worries me right now are the Celtics. Hopefully Powe will get healthy for the final 2 games against the Celts since he will improve the matchups with the smaller athletic teams.

the cavs have the 2nd best record in the east, and what is probably the hardest schedule in th enba thus far, coupled with playing more games than anyone else. to say the trade hasn't worked out is comical.

I think you can say that about Ohio professional sports in general... Sure Cincinnati hasn't had as much misery, but they have suffered for a while now. And the NBA is where Cincy and Cleveland fans kind of unite.

Cavs are playing the best basketball in the league right now. They moved up 6 spots to number 1 in ESPN's power rankings today.

Celts and Lakers are gonna be really difficult to beat but coming out of that Christmas day game I think that the Cavs can win it all. Before that, I wasn't so sure..

If we bring that intensity when it counts. Watch out. Lebron didn't even play close to his best game.
