Cavs 09-10 Season (official thread)

Provided Powe's knee doesn't fall off trotting down the court, that's a nice pickup.

vet min, put him on the end of the bench, and tell him to get ready for the playoffs. plus if he doesn't die, they can resign him in 2010. for someone like gilbert who doesn't mind paying luxury tax, this is a no loss kind of move.

I like this move. Powe gives a good player off the bench at the end of the season and playoffs, but next year is really when they are going to need him if Shaq and Z are gone. With Powe and Andy you have 2 proven vets in the starting lineup with JJ and Jackson off the bench.

I don't think Powe's knees would ever allow him to play extended minutes. He's strictly a bench player.

Still he is a proven NBA big. Hopefully JJ will reach his potential by next season and be capable of starting although I wouldn't be surprised to see them bring back Shaq or Z if they win this year and the money's right. This also gives them another piece to trade in case they can make a move for another star next summer.

I love this signing and I'm shocked they were able to get him for so cheap. He's a hard-nosed player that plays much larger than his size. Great bench player and given his work ethic, I'm confident he'll be back by or before the February timeline.

How could anyone not like this signing ? Sure, they gotta wait until Feb., but it's very cheap, he's only 25 and when given decent minutes last year, he produced.

He played 25 minutes or more in 11 games last year. His numbers during those
games:

16.5 pts 8.5 rb 58%fg 71%ft

Even if he's a wash this year, he'll be a great pickup for 2010 and beyond.

I think that most people who don't like the signing is because he is so injury prone and it hasn't been just this past season. I don't even want to start talking about 2010 until some other things are clarified with the Cavaliers.

he's signed to a vet min deal with a team option for 2010. his leg could fall off tomorrow and it won't affect the cavs one bit. there is really nothing to dislike about this deal aside from the fact that powe would be taking up a roster spot that would have went to someone like lorenzen wright, who never played at all.

Well said. A no-lose signing.

Repeat after me: "Lebron is going NOWHERE else"

Let the media speculate on every move he makes and every word he states, but do yourself a favor and don't believe their hype. He's going nowhere.

cleveland could sign joe smith and show jawad williams the door. joe smith is no jsutification for disliking this signing.

I'd like to hold onto Williams. He has the size and shooting to be a decent bench player in the future. Sounds like they are trying to bring Joe back, which would be another good fit although I'm not sure where they are going to find minutes for all these bigs. I think Joe and Shaq would be a good pairing with Joe's range. Shaq and Z better not play more than 20 minutes a game during the regular season to keep them fresh and ready for the playoffs. It would be nice to get Lebron in the 35 range during the regular season as well. I think Parker and Moon are going to allow Brown to give some guys more rest this season. If Boobie can get his head on straight they can go with him and Parker at the same time. If not they'll have to go with a 3 man rotation of Mo, West, and Parker at guard. Compared to previous years you have to like a second team of Boobie, Parker, Moon, Smith/Powe, and Z. They still have JJ, Jackson, Green, and Williams on the bench.
