Cavs 08-09 Season - Central Div Champs (official thread)

Chris Broussard was on ESPN last night saying Shaq wants to be traded to Cleveland to play with LeBron, and to keep an eye out for that.

I doubt the Cavs ever make this move. Z is a much better fit for LeBron b/c of his jump shot. The Suns are said to want Varejao or Hickson and Wally. So what do you do with Z and Shaq on the same team??

Again don't see that happening. He also said Amare would have to come up in those talks, although other teams are heavily pursuing Amare and didn't think the Cavs were.
Fuck all of that.

Nice bounceback win. The recent 3rd quarter doldrums are a concern. I thought we had fixed that...

1st half defense was poor....against uptempo teams the Cavs have really lost focus on defense. Happened against LA too. It's as if they'd rather prove they can run too, than focus on playing good half-court defense.

It hasn't worked and it's lead to their worst stretch....I think the All-Star break is coming at a perfect time.

Hopefully West's return will improve the defense.

Exactly. It's all relative. When West returns and gets healthy, and eventually Sasha, then Wally and Sasha return to their 10 minutes a game. Too much Wally-time started to hurt this team.

When the rotation returns to normal, things will get back to normal.

Shaq...Do Not want. He had some good games earlier this year but I'll take my chances with Z. When hes healthy and involved you can not guard that.

It would be pretty interesting to see what Amare would bring to the table with this team... Just bad timing. As everyone has been saying, I think any trade would certainly hurt the chemistry of this team.

Just throwing it out there...

Stoudemire to Cavs or Lakers?

Views 71808 Comments 96

The Cavaliers, Lakers and Heat are the lone teams who should seriously consider obtaining Amare Stoudemire's sub-standard services. Judging by what the Cavs have to offer - as mentioned, expiring contracts and talented youngbloods - and Suns GM Steve Kerr's connection and affection for Danny Ferry - I'm guessing it'll be Kevin McHale-Danny Ainge revisited . . . unless L.A. makes Lamar Odom available.

FWIW, a respected poster on this Cavs board seems to be hearing some serious rumblings about A'mare to the Cavs. There appears to be a lot of smoke here...much more than I ever expected...

Amare Watch '09 - RealCavsFans

I'm torn on the whole thing. A'mare is one of the top offensive forces in the league and could really take a ton of pressure off of LBJ, but he comes from a team that has never played a lick of defense throughout his career and how would this trade disrupt the teams chemistry? Defense is a big part of this teams success this season. Adding Pau Gasol helped boost the Lakers into the Finals last year, but he has a much stronger all-around game. LBJ-Mo-A'mare would be a very potent offensive trio to deal with though...

The Cavs being mentioned are J.J., Wally and their 1st round pick with possibly a 3rd team getting involved in some way, presumably involving expiring contracts...

I really like JJ and thank you will be an outstanding talent in a couple years but if they need to trade him to get A'mare to Cleveland I say pull the trigger. Z is not getting any younger and bringing A'mare to Cleveland would probably bring a championship so you might as well get it done this year rather than waiting and maybe not ever getting it done. It might be a roll of the dice but I would certainly roll them.

That's an interesting call for sure. They're calling Hickson a young Karl Malone.... However I want to win now.. and with an addition like that it'd be hard not to. LeBron with another top scorer in the league.. Holy ****. Defense would disappear, but offense would get up to the hundred and a quarter mark.

Stoudemire is certainly certainly has the physical gifts to be a solid to excellent defender. He's never played for a team that placed any sort of value on defense though. He can't defend that well because he's never been asked to. Maybe it's something he'd buy into.

I'd hate to give up Hickson though.

Mo was considered a defensive liablility when he came to the Cavs. That changed before he started in game one. I'm confident that anyone they acquire can and will learn quickly to play defense. When you have Mike Brown and LeBron preaching defense to you, you bust your ass. I can't imagine they would ever acquire anyone they didn't think would play defense.
