Cavs 06-07 season thread

What a great game...Just got finished watching it...

Overall it was a great game by everyone...I think it goes to show you that when playoffs come we are going to step our game up to another level...

The one thing that really hasnt been mentioned is how LBJ has been playing D. He has turned the corner and was getting up in guys grills and forcing them into some tough shots and he had 2 plays where he came from the other side of the court to block or strip the ball...

The only thing that is going to hold this team back at this point is the free throw shooting (13-24 isnt going to get the job done), and hitting some open jumpers...

There were jumpers at the end of the 3rd and early 4th where we got some good looks and didnt knock them down...

Also just a small comment about the officiating, but the Pistons were really the beneficiaries of some calls and we still came out on top...

I'll give him credit for the switch, but it's jsut apparent to me he isn't the answer.....his antics just show how little he has control/knows the game

Personally I found Mike Brown running off the court quite comical and he really did not coach too badly tonight. Although I do not know if he is the guy for this team, I think we will know by the end of this season if he is or not. Do not forget this is his first gig and he still is getting better as a coach. What really matters is Lebron was not going to let the Cavs lose this game tonight and he was the Lebron of old which he has been for the last couple games.

I couldnt agree more on your last statement...

As for the Brown criticism, you have to give him all the credit in the world for selling his defensive principles...Hell we were talking about giving Sasha away for peanuts early in the season, but now due to Brown who convinced him that he needs to work on his defense b4 he could see the floor we have a guy that can score and also is playing very well on the defensive end...

Also we are seeing much better D out of LBJ. He may not be the greatest offensive mind, but overall and he should know as much as I that in crunch time just draw something up and let LBJ create. It isnt really that hard for him...Also he is usually calm on the sidelines, but tonite he was pretty animated...I honestly think that he gets his emotion from the team instead of him giving his emotion to the team if that makes any sense, I think this is due to him being a young coach...

I don't think he knows how to handle officials, and I don't think he truly understands some of the intangibles within the game like many other NBA coaches....he's just that guy who's getting by on great talent but will never get us to the next plateau b/c he lacks a certain understanding of the game....maybe I'm being too critical but I truly don't believe any self-respecting coach in the league who knows how the league works, tries to run his team into the locker room after a shot that was obviously going to be reviewed ...I also believe he does an awful job of working officials over, and when he takes technicals, or even tries to get leverage on a referee he doesn't get his point across at all.....he just seems clueless.....just some opinions

I can agree with some of this, but I think that he is still learning on the job...

I also think that we as outsiders just think that he is dumb due to his stupid look and facial expressions...In a way I think he is just being coy at times, b/c there is no way he can be as dumb as he acts or they never would of hired him...From the outside looking in you can't really complain about the results he is getting on the defensive end and ther records that he posted last year and we are in position to take either the 1 or 2 seed in the East going into the playoffs...

ya but.......

The guy who hired him also traded a first rounder for Yuri Welch.....I doubt Danny Ferry makes that hire.....his dumb facial expressions, and attempting to act coy- he just doesn't get it IMO......i really feel like he's the same guy as Romeo Crennel.....a solid assistant who got their break b/c they assisted under an amazing HC

Again, any coach who knows the game doesn't try and "steal" a game by running his team into the locker room....whens the last time that trick worked? And why on terrible calls does it appear players on the bench have a better understanding thatn Mike Brown of whats going on.....maybe he is acting coy, regardless to me, when compared to current upper echelon coaches he isn't even sniffing their league

Brown is getting results Romeo is not...

I think he was overcome with emotion...We all know that it didnt matter if he ran in the lockeroom or not, if the shot was late they would come find the team...I am not in anyway putting Brown in the upper echelon, and honestly think that we need an upper echelon type guy to get us to the next level, but what you can't argue with is Brown getting us to the playoffs and a rebound away from going to the ECF against a team that was full of all-stars and now this year while we have had ups and downs, you have to love the defense that this team is playing...

I can also agree that he doesnt manage the game great but he doesnt do a horrible job...

I guess my beef is that this team has the talent to win the Eastern Conference but I feel an appearence in the Eastern Conference Finals would be a sucess under the current conditions.......theres really no reason this team shouldn't have the best conference in the Eastern division...I also think Mike Brown's leadership of the team has lead to the inconsistent nature of this team....we go as LeBron goes, and that shouldn't be LeBron's job. He's too young for that, and a good NBA Head Coach knows how to motivate/lead a team

much like the all knowing flip saunders running out on the court while making the charging call sign when a block was called on detroit late in the 4th, then subsequently overturned to a double foul, which is unheard of.

brown's little trot off the court was more an up yours to the refs that jobbed cleveland pretty bad most of the night.

i also think you seriously overvalue a lot of the talent on this team. 90% of this team is inconsistent players. they were inconsistent before brown got there, and they were inconsistent on other teams before coming to cleveland. low and behold, they're still inconsistent and you wonder why.

AUBURN HILLS, MICH. - For the Cavaliers, beating the Detroit Pistons is so nice they practically had to do it twice.
The entire last month has been about growth for the Cavs, especially LeBron James. It has gotten them within a whisker of statement road wins on several occasions, but walking away with a quality loss is rather hollow.
Then came Wednesday in the den where their season ended last May and a nerve-racking litmus test against those pesky Pistons. Showing remarkable progress and poise, the Cavs withstood the Pistons best and trademark shot and clawed back for what is probably their biggest victory of the season, 101-97 in overtime.

Cavaliers game day

NBA may add Varejao rule

Penchant for drawing charges might prompt `no-flopping' technical

By Brian Windhorst

Beacon Journal sportswriter

AUBURN HILLS, MICH - The NBA is thinking about legislating against Anderson Varejao. And, no, it isn't a dress-code issue with his hair.
There are rumblings that the league might institute a ``no flopping'' rule next season that would give officials the option of calling a technical foul on players who get creative in attempting to get a charging call.
It was a topic kicked off when NBA Vice President Stu Jackson said earlier in the season that the league was ``looking into it''; that comment has been received warmly by oft-complaining coaches.
