Cavs let win slip away on road

LeBron's 30-point effort wasted as teammates give little help against Sonics

By Brian Windhorst

Beacon Journal sportswriter

SEATTLE - The Cavaliers knew their rugged Western road trip would very likely be defined by how they performed at the start of this week.
So far, it's sketchy as the Cavs let a winnable game get away Tuesday night, losing 101-96 to the Seattle SuperSonics.

Webber bolsters Pistons' chances

Cavs recognize Detroit is more formidable foe after adding star forward

By Brian Windhorst

Beacon Journal sportswriter

SEATTLE - With nearly half the season completed, the Cavaliers have clawed their way to the top in the Eastern Conference. But rivals aren't standing pat.
The Detroit Pistons might have gotten significantly stronger on Tuesday by officially signing free agent forward Chris Webber, a salvo that certainly reached the Cavs up in the Pacific Northwest.

I still can't believe the fact we let this one slip away last nite. We were controlling the game most of the game and then we missed some shots and turned the ball over down the stretch and Wilcox had a huge game...

Nice to see Larry back out there...

We need the win tonite...

Pathetic effort in the 4th quarter last night. The thing that pissed me off the most, besides staying up till 12:30 to watch them lose, was that Collison had 5 fouls with 5 minutes left in the game and they didn't go after him to get the 6th foul. He was killing them on the glass and they didn't try to get him out of the game. In fact I only remember the Cavs going to the hoop once in the last 5 minutes. Rather than forcing the ball to the hoop they were content to throw up shots from outside. Unfortunately they were doing their normal shitty job of shooting, aside from one Jones 3, and lost the game. If I was defending the Cavs I would always pack everyone inside the 3 pt line and do my best to make them throw up long shots. The Cavs might be hot enough 1 out of 10 games to beat you with the outside shot.

- IIRC Gooden got benched for several minutes in the 3rd quarter for lack of effort or something, which make me more open to a Magette trade.
- Why does it always seem like other teams always get all the ticky-tack calls and the Cavs hardly get any?

To answer the last question they are move agressive in going to the hoop...

I agree with all the other stuff and that is why I would love to have Magette here as he would take the ball to the rack...I wish Hughes would as he is capable of it, but he still doesnt look like he has his full game back as he gets the ball taken away or hit out of his hands far too often. Just seems like he is sluggish which is why he relies on that outside shot all the time...

Also last nite would of been a perfect nite for Pollard as he would of been banging in there some and been able to rebound the ball...Wildthing and Drew got tore up by the stronger guys inside...

gooden let wilcox and collison abuse him in the 2nd half, which is why he got benched. it was a typical gooden performance of 1.5 quarters of effort, then spectating for the remainder of the game.

hughes is proving to be more of a liability with each passing game. He doesn't aggressivle slash to the hoop like he did with washington, nor can he shoot worth a shit. cleveland's backcourt is becoming a major offensive liability, however, damon jones can't play defense to save himself, and gibson makes a lot of rookie mistakes.

They are up and down, but while they didnt win us the game I don't think they really lost it either...I think alot has to do with how LBJ is playing and when he is taking jumpers and missing them the floor isnt opening up for the other guys. He needs to either attack the hole or hit some jumpers...

Damn right. Hughes hit ZERO shots outside of the layup circle. It's bad enough when you have the worst offensive point guard in the league, but when your #2 struggles to shoot 40% and your 3rd guard in shoots most of his shots beyond the arc, you've got trouble. It's something that has to be fixed before playoffs.

The way the teams shoots in the final period is a joke. Too often they're heaving up the long shots instead of taking it to the hole.

I have been really impressed with Gibson tonight. He has taken the ball strong to the hole and has hit his jumpers. I like what I have seen from the rookie, I think he could be a good fit for us at PG for the future. Did anyone else see the shot LBJ made in the 2nd quarter after he got fouled driving to the basket, when he threw it up over his should no-look and it went in? That was S-I-C-K. Truly Jordan-esque. The 9 points they put up in the first quarter was kinda weak though, glad they pulled it together in the 2nd to get it close before half.

[rhetorical]How in the blue hell do you lose to fucking Portland by 18?[/rhetorical] :shake:

You lose to Portland by 18 by starting the second half with the players that started a nice run in the second quarter sitting on the bench. You lose by 18 by having your cold shooting guard go back to shooting 22 foot bricks, after having a good second quarter by taking the ball to the hole.

It was nice to see Gibson get 32 minutes, although all of his points were in the second quarter. Heled the team in assists and had a steal with zero turnovers. He shot 4-7 from the field and 1-3 from beyond the arc. When he's in, he needs to have the ball in his hands more, not in Hughes'.

Wild Thing needs to get more pt and shoot the ball more. He goes to the hole alot and either gets a good shot off or gets fouled. He also shoots pretty good with his left hand. He just makes shit happen. He was setting picks for LBJ, too.

I agree with everything here...

A tough game last nite on the West coast on a back to back...I know Portland sucks, but they played pretty good and we played like shit...

I agree with the refrence to the guys sitting in the 3rd quarter after they brought us back. I wouldnt of started Gibby in that 3rd quarter as he seemed to be ready to play while Eric had a terrible night last nite...

Cavs In No Rush To Trade
18th January, 2007 - 9:44 amBeacon-Journal -
While the Central Division is making many trades, the Cavaliers are in no rush to match their rivals.

They are having discussions, however.

``I do feel like we have to get better, but I'm always going to feel that way,'' Cavs General Manager Danny Ferry said Wednesday. ``We'll continue to look at things and if we feel it is a move that will make us better, especially in the long run, then we'll look at it.''

Iverson getting comfortable in Rockies

DENVER - By Brian Windhorst
Beacon Journal sports writer
Even with several reels of fresh highlights making the rounds, it is still somewhat startling to see Allen Iverson wearing power blue and gold. Or to consider him playing for the Denver Nuggets.
Many Cavaliers fans probably didn't mind seeing Iverson shipped to the Western Conference a month ago, the memories of his many great games in Quicken Loans Arena still not lost. But his presence in Denver, where the Cavs will get a look at him tonight as their road trip marches on, also illustrates the arc a superstar's career can take.
