Cam Newton (QB New England Patriots)

I've been hearing the "the BCS would implode if this happened" argument for a long time now. It's not going anywhere and we'd still be stuck with Boise fucking statue of liberty State as National Champ.

I'm like num's. If it happened I'm done with any non Buckeye related college football.

It won't implode, because there is too much money involved. It will just greatly diminish the importance of the BCS in the overall psyche of college football fans which will lead to a change in the future. Not sure what the current contract is, but I believe we are stuck with the current set-up for at least a couple more years.

A good example of this is the fact no-one right now gives a shit about the AP poll, which was once highly regarded, because 1) they decided to evoke change by taking their ball and going home and 2) they decided this year to included the semi-pro team of the the west in USC that was punished by the NCAA with a post season ban for a couple years.

Cliffs Notes:

AU Board of Trustees is controlled by a bunch of good-old-boys, the most powerful of which ran a large bank that was seized by the FDIC and is now under FBI investigation for all sorts of misdeeds. Another BoT member/booster owns a casino/dog track in the state. Several AU BoT's/boosters were also on the board of the seized bank.

In the course of the FBI's investigation into improprieties at the bank, their wiretaps recorded several AU BoT members/boosters discussing pay-for-play schemes involving Newton and other members of the recent AU recruiting class, which was remarkably improved over the previous year's lackluster class.

AU booster funnels $250k from a non-profit org. to Newton's uncle, who sends it to Cecil. Cecil's church is suddenly repaired. Cecil owns a small trucking company with just a couple drivers. After Cam signs, business picks up to the point where over a dozen drivers are needed.

AU's President wanted to sit Cam against UGA but was overruled by AD and boosters. AU was threatened with loss of accreditation (academic equiv. of the death penalty) earlier this decade, but was spared and given probation. The SACS (accrediting body) is not going to spare them this time. So not only is AU looking at a death penalty from the NCAA, they could also very likely become unaccredited as an academic institution, meaning loss of all federal funds and obviously dismissal from the SEC.

Thanks to Cleve for providing the synopsis. Just thought it worth mentioning that my own professional association, the American Association of University Professors (AAUP), has been agitating against the athletic booster dominated Board of Trustees at Auburn for years (well before Cam Newton was admitted). You're either a real university, or not. Auburn has chosen "not."

I don't know. If this is true, Auburn may have found a way around the National Collegiate Athletic Association by, you know, not being collegiate anymore. Pretty wily.

So BCS to NFL Playoffs? I'd give 'em the odds if they drew the Bengals. Wait -- Bengals and playoffs don't align...

Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you the SEC.

My real nightmare scenario is we get an Auburn vs Boysee NCG and they declare Newton ineligible before the game.

You wanna talk about a glass case of fucking emotion.

Here is the ultimate question. Auburn finishes undefeated but all of this blows up before Xmas and all of this is exposed and NCAA sanctions are pending, How can the BCS even allow Auburn to play?

And after the embarrassment of having to "encourage" Reggie Bush to let go of his Heisman I think it's safe to say that Cam is now out of the running.

I'm still rooting for Auburn to hang one on Saban, then sit back and watch the SEC scramble to figure out what to do about the CCG as well as bowl game placements. Glad I'm not the commish...

Go through my umpti-billion posts and find where I ever claimed that Auburn was a real university????

Guys, had you, before this alleged disclosure, asked most any SEC fan about Auburn University and the cheat cocktail that is the Venn diagram of Trooper
Taylor and Bobbah Lowder - and come up with anything but a vehement confirmation that they were doing bad stuff over there....again.....and I would be shocked.

Bobby Lowder and Auburn is not news to anyone who follows SEC football. The ascension of Alabama virtually assured that Auburn would be cheating heavily again. That is just how Auburn rolls.

And you will not believe me on this, but how Auburn and Lowder roll is not how the rest of us roll. The rest of us roll like the rest of the major conferences roll. Which is not always perfect or pretty, but it damn sure ain't like Lowder and Auburn.
