Cam Newton (QB New England Patriots)

Jeezus. Laundering payola to a recruit via donations to his father's church. If the SEC would put half the effort towards their actual academics as they put into cheating in football, they'd corner the market on Nobel Prizes every frickin' year.

who gives a shit about Nobel Prizes?

is much more important.

I think we're on the same page:

SEC groupthink is silly
Nutri is full of win and hilarity
Auburn is in deep doo doo (maybe not in time though)
We like to argue. A lot.

Fair enough. Not my intention to call out somebody without specific mention. This anonymity thing on the internets makes it pretty easy to straight up call out someone when I really intend to, and the first time I was called out on that was talking about 'Husker fans getting too big for their britches with DallasHusker, just to clarify.

I'll make sure to pay attention to that in the future.

A bit more random rival board commentary:

The fact that he is still playing in spite of Auburn being aware of these charges for a while either suggests they don't believe there's anything to the story, or they're willing to take a calculated risk with the hope that nothing turns up.
this poster's statement disregards the obvious. either auburn's season will be ruined or it won't be. temporarily benching newton achieves nothing except guaranteeing a ruined season.

  • if newton is benched and "nothing turns up," then auburn's season is ruined.
  • if newton is benched and "(something) turns up," then auburn's season is ruined.
  • if newton continues playing and "nothing turns up," then auburn's season continues as normal.
  • if newton continues playing and "(something) turns up," then auburn's season is ruined.

Hooray for probability!

yeah, but if true that Auburn knew about this back in July and still played him all year fits his simplistic view.

Every other school (that i'm aware of) who had athletes under investigation sat those guys until the investigations were complete.

Hell, North Carolina sat their entire defense for a few games (turned out to be the right move)
Same with UGA and their best offensive weapon.

Auburn playing this guy on day one tells me one of three things:

A. they did absolutely nothing wrong and are confident they'll be cleared.
2. they hold on a little too tightly to the motto "if you ain't cheatin' you ain't tryin"
C. they really are the most ignorant group of inbred redneck assholes in the SEC

I don't believe 2 and C are mutually exclusive. :pirate1:

Which would place them high in the running for most ignorant worldwide.

In seriousness, if it is 2/C, they're making a calculated decision that a NC this year will justify the increased hammer that comes down in the aftermath.

I do wonder, however, whether there's a mechanism in place to make them vacate that title. Worst of both worlds. They don't get their NC, and they take the harder hit for not sitting Newton which would make their current play a Gump move of unprecedented fail.

Found this in the Charlotte Observer today.....looks like they linked to this reporter's column....Charles Goldberg/Auburn Bureau, The Birmingham News, Press-Register, and The Huntsville Times

Saturday, November 6, 2010

Latest headlines:

Cam Newton says he's done nothing wrong.

Auburn's athletic director John Jacobs says the school has done nothing wrong.

The agent in question says he has done nothing wrong.

Meanwhile, bud Charles Goldberg of the Birmingham News cites a three-way conversation a few months back in which Urban Meyer, Newton's coach at Florida, angrily told Mississippi State head guy Dan Mullen and former Bulldog quarterback John Bond that he planned to leak the allegations in Newton's recruitment to news organizations. Bond says he was approached by the agent and told Newton would cost $180,000; other schools would be asked for more.

Meyer is not quoted in the story, but I'm sure he'd say he did nothing wrong either.

:shake: Yeah. Because "the SEC" laundered payola to his father's church.

(Glad to know you cracked the case Ord )

On a side note, I hope Auburn wins the BCSNC - making it five in a row with three different SEC teams (after they beat the Gators in the SECCG on a clearly incorrect ref's call :p) - and Florida gets a sympathy vote trip to the Sugar where they prison rape Boise.*

* If the sympathy vote thing is impossible, then I hope we fuck up Auburn and go to N'Awlins on our own merit. I'll only support the plainstiggerswariggles if it does not hurt UF.

It's obvious SEC has been pulling some shady deals. They've got so many fans yet I've never seen them play a single game of football. Come to think of it, I've never even seen their head coach, mascot or campus. Do they even have a fight song? Anybody have any links to this "SEC" I keep hearing about, I think it's somewhere below the MDL.

Side note, nobody hates Urban and the gators more than the State of Alabama. Recent success by the Tahd notwithstanding, Florida has been the bane of Bama's continued football success for some time, having beaten them in the SECCG in 93, 94, 96 and 08. The 08 loss really ate at them. Finebaum and Co. freaking hate Urban.

Not saying it was not Urban, just saying an eyebrow is raised by the source.
