C Greg Oden (All B1G, All-American, Defensive Player of the Year, Butler Assistant Coach)

Thanks for the update. I don't know if I agree with much of it. If cook goes I think it would be a huge mistake. I think he needs to continue to get better and then go to the NBA. Oden stays and Conley goes...that would be shocking. I think it is much more likely the other way around. Also I've always believed that if Conley goes Oden is not coming back. Again all of this is just my opinion.

Don't get me wrong, I really hope Greg stays (to put it lightly), but I'm more worried about Conley staying honestly. Butler will be our only real PG next year if Conley leaves. That said, if it plays out like predicted in that post I'll be happy of course . But now I have to wait even longer to see if Conley stays lol. That anticipation might kill me.

I agree, Conley and Oden probably go together or stay together. And if they stay, Daquan should definitely not go.

Well that guy sounds like he thinks he has reliable sources, anyone know how reliable they really are?

So who will do more damage to us if they leave? Conley or Oden. I personally think it will be Oden. Without Oden, our outside game may not be as successful because he draws the attention inside while shooters outside could get open shots. JMO

Great point. You could be very right with your observation. Great post.

I'll disagree. We'll have depth in the post next year. We won't have depth at point guard. If Butler gets in foul trouble or gets hurt we wont have a true point guard to take over.

Oden also would be my choice of most influential in staying or departing (though it is a very tough analysis as Conley's game is obviously so very different and creative). The reason though why I believe it would be Oden is not just the obvious "Center of the Universe" gravitational pull he has under the basket. More than that, it is the absence of what would be a devastating duo of big men on the floor when needed with Greg and Kosta both attracting attention. That would so completely open up the perimeter game, make rebounds easier yet than they were this year. Plus the option to nullify Oden with fouls becomes significantly less attractive when he can dish the round ball to another big man (or back out to the under-guarded perimeter with Diebler, Conley et al).

You have a good point as well. My only thinking is that we will have depth but who can score on the inside down low? Diebler and the rest of the guards could get shots off from the outside but I think we are going to need someone to score down low. I'm not saying we couldn't score down low but the guys we have and the ones coming in would have to step it up.

That's a very tough question. Neither of them are easy to replace. However, I think Oden is the more rare type of talent. Although, then again, nothing is better than having a truely great point guard. But in the end, I think Butler would be a better substitute for Conley than Hunter/Koufus would be for Oden.

Ohio State will be extremely tough to beat if they both stay (and especially if Cook stays too). I would even say that such a team would have a good chance of going coast to coast as a number one and maybe make a run at a perfect season.

You can tell by that face that he wants to stay for another year...

Despite the fact that most of the indications that Greg and Mike and maybe even Dequan are gone, I somehow still feel in my gut that they will be back. I can't explain why really, but I just do.

Than again, the last time I felt like this about something was on January 7th.....

As promised, back with what i could gather.... (scout)

Synopsis: Cook gone, Oden wants to stay (mom opposite), Conley will declare to test waters (no agent = can return) and think it over longer. His source believes MC comes back, and Greg never declares.

The mom tidbit seems to contradict other intel about her wishing Greg would stay...

It is kind of hard to believe anything (and at the same time easy to believe anything) at this point.

I think Daequan Cook is making a big mistake if this turns out to be true.
