And what a package.

People have to be in these guys ears about the possibility for an undefeated season. Maybe its just too much optimism but it could definitely be real. These guys lost what, 4 games this season?! Good God and Oden only played at full strength for maybe 10. If these guys come back and the infusion of the guys coming in, I can't help but think UNLV 1990-1991 with more depth.

Hunter will get better offensively and our role players stepped up so well in the tournament they have to springboard into next season, have to. The guys coming in have at least the offseason and maybe 10-15 games into the schedule to learn their roles and let the big dogs eat. It would almost be an awful shame to miss out on the could've been season thats coming next year.

Call it Scarlet glasses if you want to, but I just call em like I see em.

Near the end of the season there was a lot of discussion about Duke in the early 90's and how we would never see depth like that again in college basketball. The interviewed Coach K and he talked about how the environment has changed and he doesn't see players sitcking around any more to create those really deep teams. I agree with that and I would say Florida was an anomaly this year. Likewise, to get all of our talent back next year would be unusual.

The comments from the other board that were poster re: Greg's mom pushing him to go pro are complete BS. While I am sure she would be excited to see her son become a multi-millionaire (who wouldn't!!), she has told Greg to follow his heart and that she will support whatever he wants to do. And the $10M policy has nothing to do with this -- it is not a new policy and would fall FAR short of his earnings over an NBA career. I know people in the media want to speculate on an answer so they can say "I was right" but a final decision will not be made until after this weekend.

Thanks for the info as always hoopsfan. I think everyone needs to just try to relax and wait for this Oden's decision. Obviously anyone who thinks they know what is going on is full of crap because Greg himself has not even made the decision yet. So here is to hoping he comes back. If he does comeback OSU does not lose a game next year.

Thanks for clearing the air as always... I figured you would chime in on the mom comments, as they didn't jive with what you and others have told us about her.

Dad: Oden is going pro

indy star
Greg Oden will enter the 2007 NBA draft, his father said Friday.

Oden, the 7-foot, 280-pound freshman center who led Ohio State to the NCAA title game, is widely projected as the top pick.

Greg Oden Sr. said he was comfortable with his son's decision.

"Why not, as long as he finishes school in the offseason?" the elder Oden said. "He's the kind of kid that, even though he'll have a lot of money, he needs to do more than just basketball.

"They had an exciting season, but why take the chance on him getting hurt?"

continued...
from same article:
Oden had become frustrated with an Ohio State offense that seemed to favor the 3-pointer over getting the ball inside, according to those close to him. In the NCAA title game, Oden shot 10-for-15 while the Buckeyes went 4-for-23 on 3-pointers.

"He's averaging like nine shots a game, and he's shooting 60 percent or better. It's frustrating for him," Jimmy Smith, Oden's first coach and one of his closest friends, said prior to the Final Four.

"They want him to play all this defense, then they want to go down and shoot the 3," Smith said. "By talking to him, I know it's frustrating to him that he doesn't get the ball as much as he should."

I've got an idea. Let's take a blank canvas, and lets lay it down right on the ground in front of us. Now, lets go ahead and draw that blank canvas into equal squares, lets say 4 by 4, for 16 squares. Now lets write different conclusions into those squares, ranging from good to bad, but definitely including the worst possible scenarios that you can think of. Now lets go ahead and pick our favorite square, and let's just jump right towards it until we land in it. I call the new game "Jump to conclusions." Anybody else wanna play?

This thread is going to go crazy when people with normal hours in life read it later today. I am somewhat bothered by the use of the word "frustrated" in the article. I was "frustrated" also, that Greg had a tendency to pick up garbage fouls at the worst of times. The greatest memory of the 2007 NCAA Tourney happened against Xavier, with Greg on the bench. Billy Packer called Oden's 2nd foul in the first 3 minutes of the Georgetown game as "Thad Matta's worst nightmare." How'd that game turn out? In the infamous words of Max Mercy, "They Come And They Go Hobbs, They Come And They Go."

No way should you be insulted by the fact he was frustrated. He had all rights to be frustrated and talking about it with former coaches who he had trust in. It's not Gregs fault that someone he trusted spilled his complaints to the media, so lets not be foolish and try and paint Greg in a negative light Woody.

Well if it's true, let me be the first Buckeye fan to say SON OF A B!#*H. I really hoped he would come back one more year. Now that I have composed myself a bit I want to wish Greg all the best in the world I hope he has a great career in the NBA. Thanks for a magical season and I hope you continue to get your education in the offseasons. Remember you will always be a buckeye to us fans.
