Growing pains have to be over. Time to be the guy we were hoping he would be by now.

Amir has great potential and now would be a great time for him to step up his
ability. I have been hoping for him especially now that March Madness is truely upon us. He just needs one spark in his game to set everything in motion. We are all hoping for you Amir

Amir hasn't always been consistent but he manned up defensively in the interior in the BTT, which is a key for this team moving forward. Amir is the only guy this team has that can guard a really big and strong big man, and I think he has really made some strides on D this year, so depending on the matchups he will be a very important part of this team moving forward into the tournament.

Amir needs to just play solid defense, block/alter some shots, don't pickup cheap fouls, and maybe convert a few buckets...and MAKE FREE THROWS...probably the most important aspect of the tournament..

i think his game fits more of a tournament style...he did really well last year in the minutes he got, now hopefully he really does well..we are gonna need him

these guys need to workout with the football team or something...they need to put on some more muscle...it doesn't slow you down, or decrease your verticle...it actually makes you jump higher and faster....LeBron, Blake....those guys are huge....if your 6'11 and have any hope of playing pro, you better start hitting the weights big time...Ross, Thompson, Williams...it will make their games so many more added dimensions...

GO BUCKS!

Unexpected lift -- Ohio State's 11-game winning streak has been fueled by its use of a small lineup, but the Buckeyes received a helping hand from their tallest player against Arizona.

Amir Williams, the 6-foot-11 starting center, showed a flash of fire in the second half when he grabbed four rebounds, blocked a shot, made a seal, and scored two points in eight minutes of playing time.

"Amir gave us some great minutes," said OSU assistant coach Jeff Boals.

Williams had totaled three points and four rebounds in OSU's first two NCAA tournament victories over Iona and Iowa State, and his statistic line in eight minutes of last night's first-half showed one block, one turnover and one foul.

But Williams helped fuel Ohio State's big run when the Buckeyes erased a 38-34 halftime deficit and built a 10-point lead in the first nine minutes of the second half.

"It feels great to be that guy to energize the team," Williams said. "I came up with a couple big blocks and rebounds and gave my team some energy."

I?m hearing Ohio State?s Amir Williams had a terrific spring in Columbus. The 6-11, 250 pound big man needs to have a breakthrough junior season if the Buckeyes are to compete for a Big Ten title. Last year as a sophomore, Williams averaged 3.5 points and 3.9 rebounds per game, and failed to tally a single double-double. His role is beyond huge for Ohio State moving forward into the 2013-14 season.

3-6 on FTs, from my count. Gotta do better than that when you're Amir and you get fouled frequently, or else you're going to be hacked regularly all year long and it's going to pay off for the opposing teams. Amir also punted a ball into the stands, not sure what he did that for. I do think he has a better shooting touch this year and has some modest improvements.

Ohio State men's basketball: Amir Williams says he’s ready to play with purpose

Ohio State junior center Amir Williams, left, is being counted on by coach Thad Matta “to have more of a presence to plug the middle for us.”

One thing might not necessarily portend another, but if Amir Williams’ play this season turns out to be anything like his handshake was a couple of weeks ago, Ohio State fans just might have to give him a hand.

They were disappointed last season when Williams, a 6-foot-11 former McDonald’s All-America center, did not play more like the former McDonald’s All-American he replaced, NBA first-round draft pick Jared Sullinger.

The strong handshake Williams shared during the Buckeyes’ media day on Oct. 10 was evidence, he said, of a new attitude he’s taking into his junior season.

“To become more dominant and more aggressive,” he said, “become that inside presence that we didn’t have much of last year.”
