Cool, I'm definitely glad you brought it up...

As for the newbs and rep, the rep sticks are getting too heavy for sure. If I rep a newb, he/she will have 5-6 medals...and about half if I ding. That brings about a measure of responsibility that I don't like as it kinda defeats the purpose for me.
Are you saying you want us to gang-ding you and bring you back down to earth?

Congrats to all of our new mods... well, except for methomps. Really Clarity, did you have to go that far? As long as I don't see him refering himself as Clarity's #1 Mod I will be fine

Nah, but we are discussing some rep changes that may level things out a bit. Its all about time and coding capability right now.

I just want to point out a personal preference here, if anyone does decide to "Gang Ding" 21.. please don't post pics of it... thanks.

Seems to me though, as Rep increases, the relative amounts are still the same... My first positive rep was somewhere in the neighborhood of 30 or 50 points or some such. Relative to the big dogs of the time (who were in the 1,000s) it's the same as if I repped a noob now, I think. Maybe it's time to restructer the medals? Last time that happened there was a rep parade, but maybe this time it will be different since we know what happens when the new sys. gets maxed...

Might seem relative, but I see it more as "The rich get richer and the poor get poorer"

The way I see it is a few reps from a top 25 member and you siddenly find yourself top 50. Back when I joined in January, It took me probably 20-25 reps before I entered the top 50, even with numerous reps from higher members. The rep power needs to seriously be curved when the coding allows it to be. When top 25 members can award 1-6 medals per rep, it's getting out of control, IMO of course.

Yes, but the poor could get rich if they wanted.

If you take your 20 or 25 reps to get to the top 50... then they are in good shape. You have to think of the fact that you have [probably- I haven't looked]] the same amount of rep as me, in total, and you've probably had 1/5the the total number of postive reps as I did because the system is relative. Like BKB said, my first rep was 17 points I think... now my rep power is millions.... and thus the-- I'd guess- 100 positive reps I had that were all less than 100 or 200 points are relatively less valuable because of the exponential growth of of the system over time.

The number of medals is completely irrelevant, its teh relative power of the dings or reps.

I totally agree you have worked harder for your rep power than I have, and that's what I'm pointing out. I think if we lower the rep power whenever that becomes possible, we should because others will not reach the top so fast as they can now.

I think my point was that there isn't a "Top" really... We can always max out some "new graphic"... and I think that its good for people to be able to have an impact from the get go, if that makes sense... because on one hand I may have a greater number of reps than you... but if we crbed everyone's power, you may have a newer member than yourself with lower rep than you (or me), even with more reps, because we benefitted from 5 million point reps, when they can only get 100K point reps... or whatever.
